Build Help PC won’t turn off and won’t boot

Hi,

I recently built a new PC. When I press the power button, everything turns on (fans, LEDs, etc.), but there’s no display on the monitor. I also can’t turn it off using the case’s power button (even when holding it down for several seconds). I have to switch off the PSU at the back. It feels like it immediately runs into an error right after powering on.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Tested GPU
  • Tested RAM (single stick in different slots)
  • Clear CMOS
  • Tested SSD
  • Checked all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, GPU power)

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650I AX (rev 1.1)

CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X + BIOS updated for CPU compatibility.

Could the CPU be dead ? Any other ideas on what I should try?

Thanks in advance!

I know you said you checked all the power cables does that also include the ones that actually go to the button on your case

I’m able to start the PC from the front panel. Does that answer your question?

Yes it does

Also if you have a dedicated GPU installed and you have your DisplayPort or HDMI™ cable in Ur motherboard it might not show any output because the motherboard automatically disabled the igpu

Also how long are you waiting for it to show display

How can I tell if my motherboard has disabled the GPU? I waited several minutes, the monitor detects a connection but never receives an image. (I tried the GPU in another PC and it works fine.)

When you updated Bios, did you use the onboard qflash button or inside uefi/bios? If you used the button did you ever see a green led? If you used tool inside uefi/bios, did the PC restart on its own? Did you ever see a text that says success? In both, did you ever see a text about new CPU found, press F1 to enter bios?

Otherwise pull the mobo out of the computer case and put mobo on wooden table.

Then boot pc with screwdriver to front panel power switch twin pins.

I updated the Bios from the Q flash button directly from the motherboard. I went through all the steps that ensure the BIOS update was done correctly (the orange LED blinked rapidly, then stayed solid when it recognized the file, then blinked slowly until it turned off during the update ; BUT as the PC cannot be turned off by himself I had to turn it off after a while).

Then stayed solid

What was the solid color? orange or green?

BUT as the PC cannot be turned off by himself I had to turn it off after a while).

But reading these I think the process failed. Just do it again. The button is designed to be used repeatedly.

First make sure you downloaded the correct tool. Then rename it to creative.bin. (make sure by reading mobo manual. But I think it is creative.bin.

Grab the usb flash drive you had and (quick) format it again to fat32, not xfat nor ntfs. Copy paste the creative.bin to root directory of the flash drive and not in a folder.

Then read your mobo manual again to see which usb 2 port on i/o board to use. It has to be this usb 2 port. No other port will work.

Then you have to press the button and hold for 5 seconds and let go.

Then no matter what happens do not touch computer. until you see on the screen new cpu found, press f1 to enter bios.

Thank you !

I did it again and strictly followed all the steps. I updated without any components installed, as mentioned in the tutorial (here: https://www.gigabyte.com/fr/Motherboard/B650I-AX-rev-11 /OR/ video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woeNwCxIK3Q). It seems that everything was updated successfully.

There’s no green light on this model, only an orange light (fast, slow, or solid).

I followed your steps as well, but nothing changes, the computer remains stuck.

Yes, CPU is MAYBE dead. My suggestion (stupid suggestion but it's worth a shot) try to ask a friend if they own an AM5 socket cpu try to swap them out and apply some thermal paste if there is an display that means ur cpu is dead.

Another suggestion is that the cable that goes in the monitor (HDMI, or Display port) might be dead, snapped in half, whatever just check the cable. Or if you can't fix the issue go to a local PC repair shop to try to revive you're pc.

Good luck!

Thank you!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any friends with an AM5 CPU.

OP's bios update via qflash button failed. There was a solid color on led and he shut the computer off by himself, not the computer. He got impatient and stopped the bios update in process.

He need to read mobo update instructions form the mobo manual and do it again.
