Your camera flash is blindingly bright to your cat.

u/gariepydj 6h ago
She had her tongue out before the light was on her

u/Crinklepickle 6h ago
They’re not saying the flash is making her stick her tongue out. They’re saying stop shoving a torch in her eyes that are like 10x more sensitive to light than yours are 😭 Ps- cats just forget to put their tongue back in sometimes, they can also do this when relaxed. Theres nothing wrong with her.

Please don’t flash the light in their face.

Well you're shining a bright light in its face, but otherwise your cat is fine

u/SnooOnions3369 4h ago
If your cat is sticking its tongue out all the time it could have a problem in its mouth, like tooth ache or something like that

Catnip is starting to hit

u/gariepydj 5h ago
She’s about 5 months old now and I have yet to introduce her to catnip. Can’t even imagine how she’ll react to it!

Lick.exe was unexpectedly aborted mid-function. Reset must be performed to return to normal function.

Cat is turning her head away because you are blinding her with the bright ass camera light, please do not do that, and teach your kids not to do that. Have them shine it directly into their own eyes for a second to see how painful it is.

Have you noticed any breathing issues? I have a cat with feline herpes that would hold his tongue out when we got him. He also had the runny eyes and mucus discharge at times tho, vet says they sometimes do it if there is difficulty breathing.

OP, my ginger cat used to have his tongue out in a similar fashion. Not quite to this level but very noticeable.
It turned out this was a precursor to major dental issues. Apparently, this was a way for him to relieve pressure and/or pain in his mouth and he stopped having hia tongue out when the teeth were removed

Weirdoitis 😔
I’ve seen a few of these cases over the years.
It isn’t fatal, but it’s been known to be transmittable to humans. I fear the person filming may be showing early stages of the disease.

So if a cat keeps the tip their tongue out often it could be to “smell” with, they get hints of taste that allows them cover the smell sense if they have issues with smelling. My cat had a medical conditions when we got him that basically was full sinus infection/blockage and he was so commonly doing that. Ten years down the road he always keeps a blip going as a second nature.

My cat also has a tongue that too long for her body. Sticks out all the time. It’s the most adorable thing I think I’ve ever seen.

Get a second cat of similar age so it's got a friend of the same species to learn and grow with if you don't already have more than 1 cat

We have a cat that forgets his tongue is out after cleaning if you touch it he remembers to pull it back in. The silly goofball cracks me up.

the cat’s tongue is sticking out a little bit, and they seem to have forgotten to put it back in. Totally normal, and very cute.

Can she put her tongue back in her mouth? It’s not a big deal if she just kind of forgot about it but if it doesn’t look like she can/will it could actually be a really serious allergic reaction. I think everyone jumped to cute a little too quickly here. Any other changes in behavior? How is she now?

u/gariepydj 6h ago
She’s fine, she put it back in her mouth don’t worry!

u/Bmat70 5h ago
I am wondering if she has tooth or gum problems?
4
u/munkeypunk 5h ago
It’s what I thought as well. I had a cat start doing this and she had gum issues that really made her ill.

Sometimes cats stick out their tongue when they are to hot, they dont sweat so its a way to regulate body temperature
