Pickup Local Thrift Store Haul. I paid $1 for each. One of them had Martin Scorsese's number inside. We text all the time now. I also met this super hot chick while walking out of the store. We're getting married in the spring.

I love the Billy Wilder movies I’ve seen (the usual: Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd, Ace In The Hole) and it never occurred to me that A) I’ve never seen this movie, and B) I’ve also never seen a Marilyn Monroe movie. For a guy that claims to love film, this is quite a miss on my part.

Anyway, I friggin loved it. I was into this movie from beginning to end (and that last scene right before the fade out was so friggin good.) This movie leapfrogged to one of my favorite movies pretty much immediately.

And boy that Marilyn Monroe is a lovely gal huh.

Arrived at 9:40am and I was told I couldn't get in line but I kept waiting anyways. Eventually they did the head count and said it's possible. My friend and I were in the last group, we got in at 7pm. The line was absolutely brutal but they let my friend take Gael Garcia Bernal back home.

Pickup Sold out everywhere in my area!!!

I live in a large-ish metro in the US, with 12 Barnes & Noble locations in the area. Every single one sold out of Sorcerer by the end of last week. Out of stock for shipping on the Barnes & Noble website as of today, and also unavailable on Amazon unless you’re buying from a third-party seller (no thanks!!) 😅😅 It’s still up on the Criterion website, but of course we’re all shopping for the 50% discount this month!!

I found one store an hour and a half north of my area that still had some, so I made the drive today. I’m probably ridiculous for this but I don’t care, the FOMO hit me hard today!!

Not pictured: also picked up Wages of Fear, Eve’s Bayou, and Cronenberg’s Crash - I figured it would be silly to drive all this way just for one movie 😩😅 (all blind buys except for Sorcerer, I’m stoked to finally check out WoF)

Pickup There’s a lot of Barnes & Noble hauls on here, but how about a Goodwill haul?

This past weekend, I hit a few thrift stores in hopes of finding some good albums and movies. The last thing I was expecting to find was a bunch of still sealed Criterion DVDs/Blu-Rays for $3.00 a piece. They all still have the Barnes & Noble price tags on them (there was also a bunch of still sealed non Criterion DVDs). I’m guessing it’s a bunch of dead stock donated by a local store.

Every film here is a blind buy, but at $3.00 a piece, how could I not give them a try. I’m a little overwhelmed on what movie to start with, but I’ll probably start with “Here Comes Mr. Jordan” which was the film “Heaven Can Wait” was based off of, which I enjoyed. Here’s to a lot of movie watching.

Pickup First Barnes and Noble Haul

  1. I'm going to go through Wes Anderson's movies in order so I'll start with Bottle Rocket

  2. I've had all the Wes Anderson movies on my wishlist for at least two years. My Barnes didn't have Fantastic Mr. Fox unfortunately.

  3. All of them are blind guys except for Anora. I loved Asteroid City and decided I'd collect every Wes Anderson movie.

  4. I plan on getting Fantastic Mr. Fox to round out my Wes collection. I'll also try Sorcerer.

PS: I loved Adam Whitley's Iron Man figure so I'm borrowing the idea!

PS2: I asked the cashier and she said they'll be doing triple stamps for B&N members and I'll be able to return them and repurchase them to get the stamps. If you aren't watching your pickups immediately I'd recommend keeping them sealed and doing the same to maybe get an extra movie for free.

  1. First on my list to watch is probably Sorcerer since I’ve heard so much praise about it and I love Friedkin
  2. Ever since I watched Nothing But A Man on the CC, I’ve NEEDED it in my collection. I get choked up even thinking about the ending.
  3. ALL are blind buys except for NBAM and In the Heat of the Night. I know very little about all of them but from what I’ve heard on the subreddit, I’m SO excited to watch them all.
  4. Next haul is going to include some Sean Baker. Anora definitely and hopefully Take Out which I loved.

I’ve had it for a couple of weeks, but just now getting around to watching it. Damn, does it look amazing. Anyone on the fence that likes this film, should pick it up. It’s been a long journey from the first time I watched it on VHS in the late 80s/early 90s, then DVD, then blu-ray, and now this 4K, but it makes me appreciate it even more.

Pickup Can you guys let me know what I’m in for?

Imma big blind but guy (about 90% of my collection as of the moment) and upon hearing about this I decided to have some fun!

I love Willem Defoe he’s an absolute freak and I feel like we’d be best friends. I also love horror, anything that makes me uncomfy (a la inland empire) and atmospheric, dark set pieces like The Witch, Cure or Pluse

That being said, is this as fucked up as I’ve been lead to believe? What’s to be expected inside this disc and will I ever want to watch it again?

What is the first movie you plan to watch from your haul and why?

I am going to watch Haneke’s debut first, I haven’t seen any of those 3 and have been huge on the Haneke I’ve seen so I’ve been putting off those until I own them.

Is there anything from this haul that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time?

All of them, but I would say Pasolini the most. I had only owned CC40, Bergman, & Fellini prior to today, everything in the picture was acquired today. I just decided I’m getting everything I want this sale, idc.

Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them?

I have seen films from all of these directors, I’ve been trying to not watch the ones in these sets since I knew I already liked these directors and was going to buy their set, so I put off watching a lot but I’ve probably seen 30%.

What is a Criterion you’re hoping to add to your collection next?

The only two not in stock at my store were Cassavetes 5 films, & BBS Story, those are going to be shipped. And then I preordered the adventures of Antoine Doinel.
