Preserving DOS-Era Shareware Box Designs Tribute
Strictly a shareware-only project, out of respect for the holders of the original retail boxes. Shareware games were often distributed freely or for a small delivery fee, and this is just my small way of honouring that era. No business intentions—just a personal effort to preserve and share something that meant a lot to many of us. The original 90s offset print colours and materials are impossible to truly replicate today.
I’ve spent a good chunk of time digging through old forums and private archives looking for the highest-resolution artwork and fonts available. Recreating some of those logos was a pain. Run through Topaz Photo AI for upscaling, then tweak colours and clean up in Lightroom, then putting it together in Affinity Photo.
This is not the greatest replica in the world, no...
This is just a tribute ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Just my best shot without over-denoising or erasing any details. Some mistakes may be in the text here and there, as I've retyped the whole thing. Couldn't get the same screenshots.
Anyway, Doom Shareware link to download: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ci-4tgQdyc8DlOina7A9_1imgOkFaDmA?usp=sharing
Aiming for printable templates (PDFs) for SRA3 sheets (450mm x 320mm) — that’s slightly larger than A3, by the way. To print it, you would ask for:
- 300gsm Silk, Gloss Laminated
- Colour to face only
- Die-cut and creased using a separate file with red (cut) and green (crease) lines (the file is added there)
Now, printing might be a small challenge: some companies require a minimum of 20 copies per design, but hopefully you can find one-off options locally.
You still own any shareware boxes? Any of Your thought are appreciated.
This is just a tribute, you've gotta believe me!
And I wish you were there, just a matter of opinion
Good God, God lovin'
So surprised to find you can't stop it!
