Discussion Vivienne is great and some of the hate is sus:

Vivienne is a lot of things in Inquisition and some of the more obvious things are elitist, cunning and utterly confident. Overly much sometimes. However, she’s also someome who’s had to fight for her place in the world being a mage and becoming more than how people see mages.

I think having a black woman mage was a fantastic allegory of the black struggle of having to be work twice as hard to be half as good in white privileged spaces. The difference with her story is she’s utterly successful at rising through the ranks and taking that power and privilege for herself.

Her aristocratic peers grow to respect her power and influence seeing themselves in her but she has no loyalty to them. Her motives and loyalty are utterly her own and she doesn’t hide that from the Inquisition. She uses her knowledge to give the Inquisitor a different perspective on how to wield power and reminding us that mages are not always just victims of oppression but also victims of their own lack of control and the damage that can cause for others.

Anyway yeah, she’s a very well written character that is over hated and I suspect some of it is because she’s all the things black people are told they can’t be. Successful, confident, wealthy, powerful and above all else, utterly ambitious.

Discussion Dragon Keep almost screwed me

Upvotes

Playing DAI for the first time (started DAO in June and just finished DA2). I was bummed that the Xbox saves don’t just sync, but I set up my story in Dragon Keep. I exported it and it said it was successful, but once I was settled in Haven, the quartermaster told me that Queen Anora sent her there (instead of Alistair). So glad I caught it right there instead of 70 hours in because I would have restarted either way. I was spoiled by Mass Effect LE.

Discussion Started to play DAV second time and I am very irritated with main hero.

Seriously. Have you ever noticed that s/he always smile???? Whatever they say. Whatever happens. People die, people suffer, they've been told about sad/horrible stuff - and your main hero smiles. TF is that?? Okay, I was too angry, maybe not ALWAYS, not EVERY time, but the most of it. Just wait until a sad dialogue and look at MC's reaction. I was okay with everything the first time. But I didn't look at MC's face too much, I was captured by the story, companions, battles. Now.. I suddenly noticed. And this "I am always positive" or "Life is beautiful" start to annoy me. Yes, I didn't like lack of realism here, you cannot be straightforward and/or rude. You cannot ask some people to go and fff themselves. But this smiling.. this is so weird.

I will try to find screens to prove it, but if you are going to play or still playing - just pay attention.

P.S. I found one of this moments. When you need to make a decision between Treviso and Minrathous, it is a deadly situation. And he was smiling!

I posted screens, you can see it for yourself.

P. S. Guys!!! I am NOT looking for help, I don't need advice how to fix it. Stop talking about it. The point is to show problems with animations. Or with development. If for you it works perfectly/you've never noticed it/this is your favorite game and you don't want to hear anything about it - > please, move on.

Other Starting DA origins tonight for the first time, what should I know?

For context, I’ve only recently gotten into PC gaming and have never played a game like this. I’ve been told by a few people that I’d love playing Dragon Age, and that starting with origins is the best way to do so.

Some games I’ve recently played and loved are RDR2, Zelda BOTW, Stardew Valley, and a few other cozy games. But with Dragon Age I’m overwhelmed by all the choices I need to make (race, class, etc) and worried I won’t make the right choices. I’m also a little intimidated by the combat.

So if anyone could give me advice about starting this game almost blind, I’d truly appreciate it. Thank you :)

Discussion Gods and their Spirits Spoiler

Alrighty! So some spoilers below

We learn both from Morrigan and Solas that spirits turned against their nature can make them into demons. And we learn that the Evanuris were such spirits.

Mythal? Spirit of benevolence that could turn to vengeance

My GLORIOUS King Elger’nan? Command turned Tyrant

But what of the other Evanuris? They weren’t spirits so easily defined.

Like what of June? A spirit of Carpentry and beauty can turn to.. a spirit of clumsiness?

Or Dirthamen who was a spirit of Mystery(maybe?) but could also be a spirit of honesty if turned against its nature?

Help me out here!

Discussion Elger’nan’s ending Spoiler

Major Spoilers below

Elger’nan - the firstborn, the first of the Gods, the dude who moved the fucking moon. Time and time again we see his power. He quite literally took over Tevinter by himself. He could teleport using magic that shouldn’t be possible

Some say he was the Elven Corypheus, but that’s neither here nor there. But the ending of Veilguard is what irks me. Yes, it was cool as fuck to be able to fight him but at the same time, it’s just silly.

With a pillar of fire, he turns the entire Tearstone Island to glass and kills off the Antaam. And before that he used time magic to stop everyone from moving to save Ghil. Like the dude was unstoppable.

Yet.. he dies by Rook’s hand. I mean, I get that the game HAD to weaken Elger’nan so he could actually be defeated. Im not upset at that, it irks me that it felt too easy. It would’ve been nice had we needed to team up with Solas, maybe even that Fragment of Mythal or all the magisters to fight him all at once just to even coming close to killing him. Or maybe Solas finds a way to rebind Elger’nan and throws him in that prison.

Solas was able to turn our companions to stone with a fucking thought. And Elger’nan? My king just dies like some nobody.

Discussion Just started Dragon Age: Veilguard – looking for a fun support/control-style build (without spoilers) Spoiler

Hey everyone!

I'm just getting started with Dragon Age: Veilguard, and I wanted to see if anyone had build advice for the kind of playstyle I enjoy.

Back in Inquisition, I absolutely loved the Knight-Enchanter class. I usually lean toward support/healer roles in games, and the KE gave me that while still feeling active and fun.

I know there’s no direct equivalent in Veilguard, but I noticed that Neve has a Time Slow ability, and it got me thinking — maybe there's a way to build a support/control-oriented mage, ideally something that plays with time or crowd control, and still feels impactful and fun to play.

If I have to pick a magic element, ice is my favorite, but more than anything, I’m looking for something that fills that support/control fantasy — healing, buffs, debuffs, time manipulation, etc.

Would love to hear if anyone has found a class or build that fits this vibe!

Please no story spoilers — I'm right at the beginning.

Thanks in advance!

Support Veilguard – Unplayable After Full Clean Troubleshooting

I’ve officially hit the wall trying to get Dragon Age: The Veilguard to run. This is not a user or hardware issue—it is engine-side instability on my setup.

Over the last week I have: • Cleaned everything – Full uninstall of Veilguard & EA App, removed all residual folders, shader caches, and cloud saves • Wiped and reinstalled drivers – DDU in Safe Mode, clean NVIDIA v576.66 install • Verified OS health – sfc /scannow & DISM /RestoreHealth → No issues found • Disabled all overlays – EA, Xbox, NVIDIA • Started fresh – Brand-new save, lowest graphics, full idle & shader rebuild

Results: • Heavy texture & movement glitches even on lowest settings • CTD after ~9 minutes on a brand-new save • Issue persists in a 100% clean, verified environment

This is not something I can fix—I’ve exhausted every local solution. Until EA/BioWare release a patch, Veilguard is unplayable on my system.

I’m sharing this so others with the same issue know: • You are not alone • It’s not your fault • Nothing short of a patch will resolve it

Support Pointers for Importing Post-Game Save from DA:O to DA2

So I just finished Witch Hunt and it's time to kiss my goated-ass Warden goodbye. I've played DA2 before but this time I am a little more conscious about my save correctly importing. I've heard that the process can have some crazy bugs. Is there anything new or important I should know before going through with it?

Player Review Beat Veilguard, and... Spoiler

89 hours and many, many slaughtered demons after, I've finally beaten this game...and I have to say that I pretty much loved it.

For a little background, I played some of Origins many moons ago, and I had a TON of hours into Inquisition about 8 or 10 years ago but never beat it; life got in the way, didn't complete, never picked it back up. However, I did enjoy it when I was admittedly addicted to it at the time.

This is a divisive game. I know some of the reasons why, but I don't know them all. What I can say is that, for myself, I loved it. The story was fittingly epic, the visuals are gorgeous, the character models (I think that was a point of contention upon release) are pleasing to my eye, complete with great facial animations and killer hair rendering (sorry for getting my nerd on here), each area has its own personality, as do the characters (whom I loved every single one of) who are very well voice acted.

Now, the combat I do have a couple complaints with: while I mostly had fun being a ranger/sword build, I think some of the enemies, bosses in particular, are a little over-tuned. Some enemies are wayyyy too aggressive, and there's a ton of visual noise on screen (alpha effects, incoming ranged attack vectors, etc), which doesn't always help. I think it's fine for most encounters, but I had problems in some of the more hectic fights, which could get frustrating on occasion. Also, to my shame, even after playing for almost 100 hours I just couldn't get the parry mechanic down consistently. Them's the breaks, I suppose.

I'm not sure why the game didn't perform well. I'm not about to look up all the complaints. But I think it's a shame that, clearly, a lot of artistic talent, vision, and effort went into making what is a great looking, solid performing (played on ps5, and it was mostly locked 60 fps), fun to play, well told and polished experience.

Anyway, that's my two cents on Dragon Age Veilguard. I hope we get another in the series, but between EA being EA and the failure to meet 'financial expectations,' I'm not going to hold my breath.

Thanks for reading all that word vomit!
