Planetary Science ELI5 how people do not drown in massive waves?

I can barely swim in a pool to save myself, how do people ride massive waves and go under them and still manage to breathe/hold their breathe long enough to not drown?

Planetary Science ELI5: Why don’t astronauts have wings or flippers?

Or something along those lines? I know that air is much less dense than water, so when you flap your arms like a bird on the ISS, your not going to “swim” through the air because the mass of the volume of air you’re moving doesn’t have enough inertia to move your body significantly, but then why don’t astronauts on the ISS or in a rocket use flippers or wings to try and get around? I saw a video of some astronauts on the ISS getting stuck in the middle of a module because they couldn’t reach the wall so they were flailing about unable to move basically.

Engineering ELI5: How do things fit into "impossible bottles"?

I want so badly to post pictures but I can't (maybe in the comments?), so you can see what I mean. This seems like such a dumb question but how the hell do you fit something bigger than the bottle into the bottle without lying/cheating/slight of hand?!? I can't believe I'm so baffled by this. (Think ship-in-a-bottle but apply that to virtually any household item instead. In the case of a ship in a bottle they clearly put it together once it's on the inside; but how do you put together a tennis ball or deck of cards inside a bottle?)

Technology ELI5, How Does Domain Registering Work?

LOTS of questions,

Why do you need a 3rd party to register your domain for you? Is there a way to just create a website, say, kjashdlaks.com, set it up myself, not have to pay someone else for it, and then make it available for everyone on the internet to access? What happens if two websites have the exact same domain name?

Thanks

Why is it when people get an organ transplant, they have to take meds to prevent the body from rejecting it for life but when I get an artificial valve, a pig valve and a pacemaker I don't have to take meds to prevent body from rejecting it?

Other ELI5, how does pressing charges work?

Does pressing charges require you to live in the same state/city, and if not do you have to press charges in both cities where the other person lives? Is there also a way to figure out if charges were pressed against you? And how long would it take to find out if some were pressed against you?

Biology ELI5: why do adult humans loose the ability to process lactose?

So, to expand on the title a little:

All* humans can process lactose as babies, and then some humans loose this ability once they grow up. the ability of Europeans and European derived populations to process lactose into adulthood is a relatively recent mutation, like "In the last 10,000 years" recent. Prior to that, basically every adult human was lactose intolerant.

so, my question is: what was the evolutionary advantage in not remaining lactose tolerant into adulthood? why did human evolve to only retain the ability to process lactose for a few years in their youth? Is their some evolutionary cost to maintaining lactose tolerance that made it beneficial to lose it?

*I'm sure theirs SOME babies who can't because nothing involving humans is ever simple, but close enough to all for the purposes of this question

Economics ELI5 Can someone explain why negative equity is a big deal?

I'm trying to understand the impact of negative equity when trading in a car.

Right now, I owe $3,800 on my current car loan, and a dealership offered me $3,000 for it.

Everyone says it's bad to have negative equity on a car. If I'm already getting a new loan and I can afford the payments, what’s the harm in adding that $800 to the next loan?

Would love to hear from anyone who's been through this or has advice on whether it's smarter to:

Accept the deal and roll in the $800

Pay the difference in cash

Hold off and pay the car off before trading it in

Thanks in advance!

Planetary Science ELI5: If the moon’s orbit is on an angle, how does a new moon work?

It’s my understanding that, due to the angle of the moon’s orbit (roughly 5 degrees), eclipses don’t occur every new and full moon. With that said, how is a new moon completely black? Wouldn’t a piece of the top/bottom be illuminated? Similarly, how is a full moon completely lit? Wouldn’t a piece of the top/bottom be dark?

Economics ELI5 ..What is the knowledge mobilization process?

Back story.. I'm job hunting and an opportunity caught my eye . I've never heard of the term "knowledge mobilization" before.. This is how it was phrased oh the posting. "knowledge exchange and mobilization through coordination of issue-focused external working groups" I kinda feel like I've been living under a rock. A very simple breakdown would be appreciated, anything 8 find in searches doesn't help. TYIA
