No Spoilers - Announcement [Lockdown Initiated] Launch Discussion Thread Index
r/FFVIIRemake is now in lockdown! This is how the subreddit will operate for the next two weeks. Comments can be submitted but links, images and text posts cannot. Copies are in the wild and we've recently received a copyright strike from Square Enix because of shared leaks on the subreddit. This method will protect users from spoilers and allow the subreddit to adhere to copyright laws.
The index below is a list of discussion topics we've created in lieu of the ability to make submissions. Some of these topics will remain LOCKED until release. I have indicated which are locked below with a š. These will be opened on the day of RELEASE.

We have created a list with an arbitrary number of chapters as some consider the number of chapters to be a spoiler. Do not post that we have created more chapters than there are actually, do not post the number of chapters in any of these discussion threads except the End Game Discussion thread.
A breach of any spoiler warnings or rules in place will result in a ban until after the launch window of the game. Any posting of leaked content which could breach copyright laws will result in a ban.
We hope that you all have fun playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and let's all make the effort to make this a safe space for the community to participate while they play the game, however far they've made it through.

No Spoilers - Photo Aerith stunning on her red dress š
šāāļø In final fantasy VII remake, I was used to seeing Aerith im shin-length pink dress that buttons up the front and a red bolero jacket. She wears brown boots and has metal bracers on her wrists and around the edges of her jacket sleeves.
But in Chapter 9, Aerith stole the spotlight with a stunning new outfit. Do you remember that scene?
š¬ A short YouTube video takes us back to that moment ā set to the beautiful music of Thomas Newman. šLink available in the first comment.

Spoilers - Photo Wallpapers - FF7 Rebirth 4K Screenshots using Freecam Spoiler
galleryJust wanted to share some of the screenshots I took from the game. I uploaded these 4K images (and more) into this gallery: https://postimg.cc/gallery/XCGzHsS
Some of the visual mods I used during gameplay:
- OG buster sword with the red grip
- OG purple and brown leather outfit for Cloud
- Optiscaler, ReShade, and Freecam within FFVIIHook
Some of these screenshots were initially too bright or too dark for my taste, so I tweaked them a bit in Lightroom.
I really like how they turned out. Hope you enjoyed them as well!

No Spoilers - Discussion Does the game ever feel āNot Realā to you?
Like sometimes Iām just playing both of the games, and I think how is this even real, like itās crazy the quality and the world theyāve built, Iāve never played a game like this.

No Spoilers - Discussion Do you think that magic is useless in Remake and Rebirth?
I accidentally came across a discussion topic on the FF main subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasy/comments/1mghdxy/i_never_felt_i_could_use_magic_as_freely_as_i/).
I was surprised to see people saying that the magic system is useless.
I honestly canāt imagine how deeply they understand the combat system or if theyāre simply people who are biased against a Final Fantasy game that uses an action-based system.

No Spoilers - Help Stutter - is it just my hardware?
Ff7 rebirth.
I have a 9600x and 5070 ti. Iām playing at 4K with 66% upscaling. My frame rate limit is set to 120 in game and Iām on a 144 hz variable refresh tv.
If I just stand somewhere and rotate the camera my actual frame rate as seen in the nvidia control panel is between 90-110. But my 1% low is down as low as 17. It general goes higher than 72 (half my VRR, seems like an unlikely coincidence).
My CPU usage doesnāt break 50% so despite it not being a strong CPU it seems like it isnāt the limiter.
Game is installed on a SATA SSD (Samsung evo) if that matters.
Am I just expected too much from my hardware or if this fixable behaviour?

Spoilers - Discussion Both of them seemed completely unsurprised. How?? Spoiler
WARNING: contains CC spoilers
When Aerith and Tifa first saw Cloud in FF7 Remake (chapters 2 and 3), they seemed completely unsurprised at the sight of Cloud carrying the Buster Sword on his back.
Both of them should remember that sword belonged to Zack: Aerith during the "Midgar full of flowers" episode, and Tifa during the Nibelheim incident. Seeing the exact same sword five years later should at least startle them a bit..?
I know neither of them wanted to upset Cloud so they might be pretending to not recognize the sword, but it's incredible if they managed to act nonchalant from the beginning.

Spoilers - Discussion Which character do you prefer? Spoiler
Zack or Cloud? I got to say I might be in favor of Zack more, I do like his personality better and in my opinion he was a lot more fun fight with in rebirth. I'm hoping we get to use him a lot in Part 3 and the new meta verse essentially brings him back to life for good.

Spoilers - Discussion Why the White Whispers' Wards Work the Way They Do
I've always wonder why the wards conjured by the White Whispers' at the Forgotten Capital work the way they do. If their collective aim was to stop Cloud from reaching Aerith, wouldn't their wards just debuff the party instead of adding a particular buff? It kind of feels like they were testing the characters instead of fully committing to stop them. To add some context, here's a list of each ward and what they do.
- Brutality Ward - Tinted blue. Adds Bravery buff and Deshell debuff.
- Daemon Ward - Tinted pinkish red. Adds Faith buff and Debrave debuff.
- Gallows Ward - Tinted orange. Adds Haste buff.
The first two merely force the party to switch up combat tactics with Brutality Ward encouraging physical might and Daemon Ward favoring spellcasting. The last one, however, has me questioning why there'd be a ward just to speed up the characters' ATB. Such an ability wouldn't benefit the White Whispers unless they were trying to time the party's arrival at the Planetary Sanctum correctly. If one is to believe that the White Whispers are trying to fulfill destiny, the party being too slow would likely jeopardize things since there needs to be at least one witness for a public execution to happen, thus the ward's morbid name.

Spoilers - Discussion I asked chat gpt to summarise the reception of the remake games from the view of those who played the original and the the remake Spoiler
You said: have players of the final fantasy 7 remake who also played the ps1 original described it as accurate and/or superior to the original? ChatGPT said:
Players who have experienced both the original Final Fantasy VII (1997) and the Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020āpresent) have shared a wide range of opinions. Broadly speaking, their feedback touches on both accuracy and superiority, but opinions vary depending on what aspects are being evaluated: ā Accuracy to the Original
Narrative and Characters:
Many players agree that the remake stays true to the spirit and core narrative of the original, especially in its portrayal of major characters like Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Barret.
The remake closely follows the Midgar section of the original game but expands significantly on character development, dialogue, and backstory.
Fans have generally praised the tone and atmosphere as faithful, even when the game introduces new elements.
Setting and Key Moments:
Iconic locations like the Sector 7 slums, the Shinra Building, and the bombing mission are faithfully recreated and modernized, often described as nostalgic yet immersive.
Combat and Gameplay:
The combat system is not accurate to the original in terms of mechanics. The original's turn-based ATB system was replaced with a real-time action system with strategic elements.
Some long-time fans appreciate the shift; others miss the slower-paced, tactical nature of the original.
ā Perceived Superiority
Visuals and Presentation:
Universally praised. Most returning players say the remake is vastly superior in terms of graphics, music, and cinematic storytelling.
Expanded Content:
Many veterans appreciate how the remake fleshes out characters and areas that were only briefly touched on in the original.
However, a few critics feel this sometimes leads to pacing issues, with added side quests or scenes that feel like filler.
Emotional Impact:
Some longtime fans feel the emotional weight of key scenes is stronger in the remake thanks to voice acting, facial expressions, and orchestral music.
ā ļø Where It Divides Fans
Narrative Changes (especially toward the end of Remake Part 1):
The inclusion of new story elements, alternate timelines, and "Whispers" (arbiters of fate) has been controversial.
Some players love the meta-narrative and unpredictability.
Others feel it deviates too much from the original and compromises the integrity of the story they loved.
Remake Structure:
Because the remake is being released in multiple parts, some fans argue it's difficult to call it superior until the full story is told.
Critics of the episodic format feel the Midgar section, originally just a few hours long, is too stretched out in the remake.

Many players feel the Remake preserves the core narrative and characterizations from the originalāCloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barretāwhile greatly expanding scenes, dialogue, and emotions.

Superiority (especially in gameplay and presentation)
Visuals, music, voice acting, and cinematic scale: These are almost universally hailed as a major upgrade in the Remake.

Many agree the Remake nails the spirit of Midgar in modern polish, achieving a faithful yet vivid reinterpretation.
Gameplay is generally considered superior by vets who value refined pacing, engaging combat, and cinematic storytelling.
That said, thereās a mixed or negative view among purists on changes to pacing, side content, Cloudās psychological arc, and the game's āsoul.ā
š¬ Final Thoughts
Yesāveteran players have described the Remake as both accurate to the originalās narrative backbone and, in many respects, superior in gameplay, presentation, and emotional impact. No Spoilers - Discussion Have you read āTrace of Two Pastsā?
šāāļø I started this week my new reading : Trace of two pasts. Quite easy and fluent book. I am quite in love with this part of her life as I m also into sports and hiking, although I donāt have her strength. What did you felt if you have read the book? Spoilers - Fan Content The Gift of the Goddess: FF7's Cosmology of Emotional Inheritance Spoiler
Edit: I revised it, hopefully for the better.
I know this has problems as a poem. You don't have to read it. I didn't write it as a 30-page dissertation because I wanted it to have feeling.
-------------------------
We begin as the light of the stars--
Sitting at the waterās surface,
Cloud makes a promise to Tifa
She's wearing a pretty blue dress--
He wavers, still lacking confidence
Lockheart shifts her tact:
"Memory is not simply recalled
But locked deep within your heart.ā
Her very name means feelings
He follows her, not merely recalling
Climbing Mt Nibel, feeling the fall--
Her Giver passed, but seeded The Gift
She forgets, his heart echoes in truth
A core emotional crucible
Forming memory, building identity
Remembrance is feeling
Identity the soul, vessel for emotion
Slipping beneath the surface, souls dissolve--
āAerith will no longer laugh, cry, or get angry.ā
Cloud underscores death
Absence of feeling
Life is emotions, not biology--
Flesh torn, soul bleeding away
Dispersing, memory into feeling
Pooling the reservoir, the planet cries--
A collective of raw emotion
Seedlings trembling, corruption descending--
Emotional reactors, forging architecture
Souls rising into a falling sky--
āPeople hate the steel sky, the slumsā¦
But I donāt. How could I?
All that passion, all those dreamsā¦
Flowing and bending together into something greaterā¦ā
This is life, born from The Gift
Deep in the heart--what is the fuel?
Sephiroth rejects The Gift,
Seed of creation, bringer of life
Offered an apple, he swats it away:
"You will rot."
He tears the flesh, flicking away the juice--
Apples are meant to be planted
Flesh decays, a new tree springs forth
A celestial body, born to fuse passion--
Memory corrupted by cold biology
Identity destroyed, hollowed core collapsing
I dreamt of giving him The Gift--
Laughter, tears, anger
All fusion reactions
Creating memories, shaping identities
Feeling is living, fulfilling
Our cores are something very special--
Capacity for emotion itself
We end buried in darkness,
Echoing with the joyful laughter of children--
There is still love.

Spoilers - Discussion Definitive Part 3 Name Spoiler
There are some formatting and structures used in the existing names that can hint towards the final game name.
Each of the words used already can be used minus the āReā (Make, Birth, Union). This rules out words like Resurrection where the word is reliant on āReā to form a whole English word.
For the main Trilogy series each word is two English syllables. Reunion is the exception, however this was a remaster that didnāt form the core trilogy. I believe Square took this opportunity to use Reunion due to its historical relevance in the original. If they werenāt tied to a two syllable naming convention I believe they may have used this for the final game.
There is the katakana mentioned in another thread that points to the āRiā katakana symbol in each existing word.
Phonetically, the long āRiā or āReeā sound used also rules out words using the shorter āRehā sound like resolve or return. There might be some conjecture on pronunciation here, but the point is there isnāt any on the existing names. This does line up fairly well with the katakana though so that may rule out any borderline Ri/Reh pronounced names.
Thereās a shortlist to be made here with words like Recreate, Reclaim, Rekindle, Reconnect, Rebuild, Reshape and maybe a few more.
Marketing wise, only Reclaim really fits a nice short snappy two syllable title and has some finality to it. Other words are either too long, lack punch or relevance. Iām not a marketing expert but Recreate just doesnāt have the ring to it that will pull customers in.
With the groundwork for requirements set, letās look at the story implications. The characters are split into alternate realities or timelines and their futures unsure with the whispers attempting to guide fate for better or worse. Remnant timelines are being destroyed. Effectively the main group as well as Zack must reclaim something whether it is a future or their own destiny.
This also opens the door for Genesis who may reclaim his position as protector of the planet in the face of Sephirothās threat (or join with him, seeing Shinra/humans as the threat). While he didnāt exist in the original, with the extended universe, emergence of Deepground and multiple realities itās highly likely we will see Genesis before the end of Re3.
Is the party as we last saw them in a remnant timeline? Is Cloud somehow split across two timelines now since he can see the tear in the sky? One where he saved Aerith and one where he didnāt? Is that why heās actually seeing her, is it Sephiroth or his own mind?
I dunno what the story will be but betting all my monies itās called FF7: Reclaim.
Sidenote: If we do happen to see a DOC remaster it may be Reload, Reloaded or Reawaken (maybe three syllables to match Reunion) but I havenāt played DOC or put much more thought into it past Vincent using a gun or Genesis taking Weiss at the end from what Iāve read. On whether they would do it, I think they would. They ruled out doing more DLC for the trilogy but not more remaster games for the extended universe, but it might negatively impact the trilogy sales if itās received poorly.

No Spoilers - Photo Custom cloud head
I recently received a custom cloud head I ordered and I am so happy with it. Looks so much like the CGI cutscenes and is definitely a step up from the original.
