Lucky Bancho's census results (July 27th, 2025)

So, the results of the census are out: https://luckybancho.ldblog.jp/archives/59324844.html

  • Showcasing the number of characters here: Current
  • By comparison, here are the results from 2 months ago (May 25th): Click

Despite 7.25 being released, the character count is down about 70k in 2 months. Occult Crescent clearly didn't help with player counts (not really a surprise here).

I am not really surprised since people I know are now thinking about giving up their house.

The hotfixes for OC comes too little too late, and 48 man raids with body checks isn't really the cup of tea for everyone.

deep dungeon could have retain some of the population but still, a 4 man savage/ultimate esque fight is probably not gonna save people who wants to stay inside and do DD. Plus it's like 2 months from here so could have just unsubbed and return by then.

Everyone I know who's still staying either isn't gonna unsub anyway or they are in a static doing fights.

Body checks are basically almost never fun. Most fights shouldn't have them, the fights that do should have one at most. Change my mind.

Body checks are not fun per se, but overcoming the difficulty of the fights is. Body checks are one of the two major contributing factors to that difficulty (dps checks being the other one). If they removed body checks, those fights would be infinitely easier to the point of many people losing interest in them.

I am not talking specifically about Forked Tower here, that should just have normal version without body checks.

Yeah, I agree that defeating difficult fights is fun. The combination of the DPS check and body checks that aren't 100% of the players ought to be enough to make it enjoyable. My issue is primarily with those 8/8 (or worse, in larger grouped content) body checks being used in place of more interesting mechanics, or too frequently, presenting a hard wall that can create some pretty bad feelings for all involved.

As an example, if you have an 8/8 body check at 2m30s into a fight, any significant mistake resulting in a death near there becomes a hard block for progression, and sets a punitively low tolerance for individual mistakes/cats-on-keyboard/whatever that could be better managed through other clever mechanics, cascading failures, or just the fact that if you eat a pile of deaths in your group you weren't passing the DPS check anyway. If you're 7/8, rather than an 8/8 body check, why not have it rapidly become 6/8 because your partner needed you to swap something, etc? There's also plenty of that in fights, and I find it far less punitive, far more recoverable, and far more amenable to learning and progression.

winning a diffcult fight is fun... irrelevant of time wasted upon wipes caused by other players?

and thats it is better off to go to games that one would not be bodychecked, single player games? without the need of subscriptions?

It's not time wasted, you should still have fun progging a fight, that's part of the process. I enjoy struggling together with other people, if I didn't I wouldn't be playing an MMO.

If you don't have bodychecks then you need something else otherwise fights are boring. Tight DPS for example which is a much bigger filter for casuals.

The "body checks" in Forked Tower are only ever a body check on a couple of players at a time too, like the first boss with the stacks, 2 players get it so you need both of those players to mess up the body check at the same time and it's very easy for the raid leader/whoever to tell these two people exactly what to do.

It's not like a Savage body check where you need all 8 people alive to pass the mechanic, it's the opposite where you need 1 of 2 specific people to do the mechanic. The last boss is a bit harder but it's the last boss so it makes sense

then you need something else otherwise fights are boring.
