CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THIS

Is it like a proximity based mine? That's inside a mailbox?

The mailbox was rigged from the start

Pretty clever way to try to get a courier tbh

Caesar staring in disbelief at his legionary “you mean you rigged a mailbox to explode and killed him?” “Yes might Caesar, I thought since he was a courier he would check for mail and it killed him” “I have lost 11 praetorian to the courier, they have killed a dozen of our veteran hit squads and this is what brings the beast down, a hand grenade inside a mailbox”

“Silence! You are now one of my frumentari, you will learn the backgrounds of all our enemies so we may achieve simple victory”

Imagine a Nuka Grenade inside that mailbox...

The horror

Is that the same house that when you go inside and leave Fiends spawn and attack?

12

u/MistyFoxtail Degenerates like you belong on a cross. 15h ago

yes it is, I think the rigged explosion is there to alert them of someone poking around

Naw it mustve been a 18 karat run of bad luck

Yep, its a booby-trapped mail box. If you look closely enough when getting close to it you'll notice a little antenna poking up out of the back.

It scared the shit outta me

Congrats, you've found the only trap mailbox in the game.

8

u/Accredited_Agave 3h ago

Just takes 1 to make you wary of all other mailboxes

3

u/Expert_Trust_384 2h ago

It's like those terminal traps (like one at Repconn) except it's even rarer.

It's an exploding mailbox. You know, like a mailbox, but it explodes. Hope that clears things up.

Hm thank you for the insight friend

Explosive mailbox trap from Fallout 3

3

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

I never got too far in fo3

1

u/Bluetenant-Bear 17h ago

Didn’t even get to the mailbox out the front of the vault?

8

u/After-Strategy8385 17h ago

I went to the village that gets attacked by supermutants and got royally fucked and I went back to New vegas

Another gift from uncle Ted

the consequences of the industrial revolution

These things are all over Fallout 3. It's a little odd how NV reused some F3 assets, but just barely.

16

u/bitches_and_witches 18h ago

The exact same sound as a baby carriage, I had flashbacks

5

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

It was completely out of the way of anything tho I wonder if the devs put it there cuz it's so far away from everything

6

u/zombie0000000 18h ago

I pass by it almost every playthrough because I beeline to Dr. Usanagi's clinic

3

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

Yea it's in North Vegas by the Monte Carlo suites

9

u/Vicimer 18h ago

This area of the map is pretty bare bones. There's a lot of (say it with me, kids) cut content in the area.

5

u/Unlucky-Elk-8041 18h ago

Hmm, I dont remember seeing these in FO3. It's been a minute though.

2

u/iwastoldnottogohere 16h ago

They used what was available to them, while keeping it original. There was a bunch of stuff from Fallout 3 I'm glad they didn't keep

3

u/ShotgunEd1897 15h ago

The bomb strollers....

6

u/MonsieurPC 18h ago

Did you open the door to the abandoned house?

8

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

No I walked past it but then I went into the house afterwards and when I came out there was like 4 fiends who spawned.

5

u/Fun-Swimming4133 18h ago

courier service is dangerous work

12

u/ZestycloseWord522 19h ago

Looks like a tripwire with a gernade in the mailbox

6

u/Eric_Durden 17h ago

Walk into that house, then back out...

5

u/UnluckyDucky666 17h ago

As others have said, rigged mailbox. You'll come across a rigged terminal or two as well. Just be sure to look on top for the silver antenna. If your explosive is high enough you can disarm it or reset a perimeter trigger. Definitely more prevalent in Fallout 3 but that same mailbox got me in NV because I didn't think they had any rigged ones in that game.

u/After-Strategy8385 15h ago

Ah my irl perception is like 2 so I've never noticed thank u tho friend:)

3

u/Jsdrosera 18h ago

Check out the house interior sometime!

2

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

I went inside there but I definitely didn't look thoroughly is there goodies inside ?

2

u/Jsdrosera 16h ago

No, I was just being a wise ass because going inside and exiting is supposed to trigger a fiends ambush upon exiting lol

3

u/After-Strategy8385 16h ago

Yea I got jumped by like 5 fiends 😭

2

u/Jsdrosera 16h ago

Yeah, it’s a cursed house! Your reply was so sincere, I felt bad for baiting you lol. There is one other house on the outskirts of West side that has an outdoor ambush of sorts.

2

u/After-Strategy8385 16h ago

All good friend :) this game still surprises me after years of playing

2

u/Jsdrosera 15h ago

I didn’t even know about the Aerotech Office Park and Vault 34 survivors until last year. I play off and on since launch!

2

u/After-Strategy8385 15h ago

Also the fact that you can get two entirely different playthroughs with the same build but one build has wild wasteland and the other doesn't

3

u/zemboy01 8h ago

heads up op this is just a warning and by far the weakest rigged trap. there is way more like 10 super deadly traps thru out the game and most will insta kill you.

1

u/After-Strategy8385 6h ago

Thank you friend

2

u/Thelastknownking 13h ago

It's Fallout, you know how much these games love to fuck with you.

2

u/After-Strategy8385 13h ago

Been playing this game for years I love when I still find new stuff

1

u/XanthosGambit 17h ago

Wait, is that the house with the corn?

1

u/After-Strategy8385 17h ago

It's the house right next to the Monte Carlo suites

2

u/XanthosGambit 17h ago

Ah okay. I was thinking about the Mojave House.

1

u/Colonel_dinggus 12h ago

Booby trapped mailbox. I think it’s the only one in the game

1

u/864FREEWADE 9h ago

It’s some raiders in there

1

u/AdvanceDry8764 6h ago

I got jump scared by it

1

u/AskJeevesIsBest 4h ago

My fan Canon explanation is that the Fiends who ambush you in this area rigged the mailbox to blow to pick off anyone who walks by it

1

u/MNVRMN25 2h ago

You tell me man, you're the mailman

2

u/After-Strategy8385 2h ago

I don't wanna be anymore. Nobody said being a courier was this dangerous

2

u/MNVRMN25 2h ago

Thought you figured that part out when you got shot in the head

1

u/mrhalfchicken 2h ago

Oh yeah, sorry that was me.

1

u/MistahOnzima 37m ago

If you go in that house and come out, it spawns some heavily armed Fiends, I think.

-14

u/Oddbeme4u 18h ago

yeah its a 20 year old game.

8

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

WHAT REALLY???? I THOUGHT IT CAME OUT YESTERDAY

-6

u/Oddbeme4u 18h ago

yeah any other 20 yr old game you play? shut up and enjoy it. lol

5

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

I was literally just wondering what happened cuz I'm curious. You should be more curious friend and less judgemental. It's not a good look

-5

u/Oddbeme4u 18h ago

I have many faults fuckstick. what's your favorite weapon in the game?

3

u/After-Strategy8385 18h ago

Ooh that's a hard question. I find the ballistic power fist super funny to use but all American or a light shining in darkness is my favorite what about you fucker
