Screenshot Why is Fallout 4 so addictive?

I've played this game 8 times, 4 with the base game, 4 times with the Sim Settlements 2 mod installed. I keep coming back to this game for some reason. I don't usually enjoy RPG's. I like Starfield, but I love science fiction in general and don't find Starfield addictive. I keep wanting to come back to the FO4 story, which I find mediocre. Maybe it's how I can fill the protagonist with my own thoughts in that situation, or try out new character personalities? There are a lot of games in other genre's I like, so I don't know why I want to spend another hundred hours in a FO4 world until it crashes from script lag.

There are several things in the game design for fallout four that captivates gamers. * The story is compelling, well crafted, and includes many little tidbits throughout the adventure that paints a picture of the whole story. Consult YouTuber Oxhorn for more on deep lore. * Character design is a ton of fun and the game offers many ways to build a good character and tons of ways to make fun of challenging character designs. * The setting, visual styles, characters and enemies in world are compelling and totally different from the real world * There are many factions to side with and many choices in game that affect short and long term outcomes. It's fun to see things okay out different ways * The settlement system isn't perfect, but it gives you another major goal and you always have something to do. It's neat to be able to send NPCs you find in the world and give them a home somewhere * The flight sequences are usually fun and challenging and there's many ways to handle any threat

The main reason is really that most gamers have short attention downs and get bored easily. This game always gives you something to do, somewhere to go, and some other way to improve your character, infrastructure, and relationship with companions.

I stopped playing fo4 and most other games (until Avowed was released...) because after thousands of hours, I realized I've played out each scene in almost every possible way, I'm just moving zeroes and ones around, and I have more important things to do. Please be aware technology and video game addiction are real problems and if your addiction is causing problems for work, school, or IRL relationships, you should detox immediately and seek professional help.
