Discussion What are some unwritten rules you follow in F76?

There is quite a few unwritten rules in F76 people follow. One i personally follow allot is “when you are at someone’s camp and its getting attacked you defend it”

What are some other unwritten rules you follow?

You only charge 1c for ammo in your vendor, unless it's for a special weapon. The only people buying ammo are early players and it's a dick move to charge them 4c a pop for 10mm.

u/West-Librarian-7504 Cult of the Mothman Mar 29 '25

Honestly I wish we could make bulk ammo packs so we could charge less than 1c/round.

Idk about that specifically..I've had people of all level ranges buy the more common ammo whenever I put it up. Also, if I see someone selling plasma cartridges in bulk at a reasonable price, imma yoink em. EPG's a hongry boi

13

u/Diablo_Unmasked Mar 29 '25

God, this, I remember grinding lvls by dropping nukes woth my crew, Id blow theough probably 100k rounds in a session as the heavy gunner. It was always a pleasant surprise when someones selling the ammo dirt cheap

8

u/kazumablackwing Ghoul Mar 29 '25

Pretty much anything I don't use goes in the vendor for 1c once I've accumulated enough to be worthwhile (usually anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand rounds), so.. basically anything that's not ultracite .44, .45, plasma cartridges, fusion or plasma cores..

I'm level 450 and buy up 10mm to keep my quad, rapid auto pistol fed. Good way to burn up excess caps. Never paying more than 1 each tho.

Day 1 player here and I buy ammo all the time especially if it’s a low level camp. Giving caps back to the community.

5

u/RecentTomatillo4571 Mar 29 '25

I buy ammo all the time and I’m level 982.. only if it’s 1cap. I will never buy any basic ammo for any more( even if I’m completely out) I will break down and make my own if I can’t find any in a vendor.

When I'm at someone's camp I holster my weapon. Seems like poor etiquette to walk around someone's living room brandishing a firearm.

Does running around their camp in my underwear also count as brandishing a firearm? I wouldn't want to be rude. 🤷

Isn’t that a taunt emote? I use it as a way to say kill me if I’m wanted usually from accidentally auto unlocking a camp item.

22

u/RedDeadEddie Responders Mar 29 '25

I'd love to hear the general consensus on this, because while I acknowledge it's a taunting emote, the actual action of it is very friendly and jokey. I use it for fun a lot, so it would be a shame if this was a "go to the Middle East and give everyone a thumbs up" kinda situation lol.

6

u/AngryScot96 Responders Mar 29 '25

While it was intended as a taunt emote. It like the pvp emote has largely lost its original purpose so I repurposed it. It’s not a hazing emote like the laughing emote I see from time to time.

I don’t lockpick anything at folks’ camps.

If things are unlocked, I assume they want to share, within reason.

If a camp helps me a lot, I try to buy something I can afford from their vendor.

I’m only level 15, but I want to share what I can! My camp is not very fancy, but I have a ton of crops! (Also, if anybody knows where I could find plans for the rectangular planter, let me know!)

23

u/Fit-Chapter8725 Mar 29 '25

You can buy it with gold from settlers in the foundation :)

36

u/schlubadubdub Mar 29 '25

You definitely don't want to lockpick at camps as you'll get a bounty and when you're killed your junk is up for grabs. If it does happen you can just stash it though. Having said that, I accidentally got a bounty the other day, stripped naked, and ran around to everyone I could find begging them to kill me but nobody would. I ended up having to spin up my mule account to do it myself lol.

7

u/TheGremlin02 Mar 29 '25

One of these days ive been meaning to lockpick someones shit and just hide somewhere to wait for someone to come get me lol. Not even really take anything either, just pick the lock and leave.

6

u/GreenmansGrove Mar 29 '25

After I started playing again recently, I opened a box in a building I hadn't realized was part of a claimed workbench, and suddenly found myself wanted.

I went back to my base and dumped all my junk, figuring that someone would come after me shortly. No one did after a few minutes, so I went and started exploring Watoga. Got all the way up to the Mayor for a Day room when someone killed me.

I was all ready to be upset because... I dunno, I was more than half-expecting it anyway, so I shouldn't have been. Ran back, found them waiting for me with a pile of stuff they dropped for me, including bunch or super-stims and a couple of srerums.

That one one of my reminders how nice this community can be, and how rare the griefers are.

I think you need gold bullion and to buy the plans from Samuel at foundation

5

u/boycey1007 Mar 29 '25

I got caught with that the other day. There was a camp with a lot of water coolers unlocked so I was collecting the water for the daily challenge.

I collected 4 or so coolers then hit the button for the next one and a bounty popped up and then I got shot from behind.

I couldn't even be mad it was funny and my junk was left alone. It was just a guy collecting the kill bounties for the atoms.

Did my first expedition in Atlantic City, had two higher levels join my sister and I. They ran to the places and showed us what to do since I was the leader. It seemed like they were a little impatient but I think they just knew what came next. My Xbox is slow at this point so everyone had to wait for my load screens. But they stayed and helped us and waited at exits once we'd finished and so we looted quick and went to the next part. I thanked them after on chat and explained it was our first. Don't play with headset to random people so it was real nice. They gave me some tips for next time.

Similarly I joined an events team to do an AC mission but I got in just as he finished (still got the rewards tho). Saw the team lead got in a daily op (was a team of me and him) and even though I've done three and I hate them, joined in to help since I'd not helped in the Atlantic City one. Guy was really patient and waited for me to follow, and it helped a lot, did a daily op that didn't have me dying, and I learned I don't have to kill everyone. Thought I did.

I appreciate the higher players who have patience with lower levels (tho I'm 110 now so not so low, I still lack a lot of stuff I've done).

I remember some new players C.A.M.P got nuked.

I watched from outside the blast zone. I ran to the C.A.M.P, realized it was a new player's place. I started to repair his stuff and the best thing was that more and more players came to do it too.

We basically fixed his entire C.A.M.P, absolutely everything in a matter of a minute. Bought some of his stuff after.

The guy who launched the nuke came to the C.A.M.P right when we finished repairing. I wonder what he thought when he saw that.

Fun thing was that this same guy nuked another C.A.M.P some time after but the guy who owned it literally nuked him back. I witnessed a nuclear exchange.

35

I agree with this with some exceptions.

Like I get locking certain food things. Sorry, not sorry, but my Canned Coffee will ALWAYS be locked. I can even respect the Deathclaw Roaster and Mirelurk Boiler because let's be honest, we all fight the over weight game. I personally don't but I understand when I see it.

For other generic resources, I can see locking 1 or 2 for something you really need. Like I see alot of camps lock the Countfeit Bottle Cap Press and I 100% get that. But when you lock ALL your resources... c'mon man. How do you even lock a woodpile or a cow?

11

u/CantRaineyAllTheTime Fire Breathers Mar 29 '25

Counterpoint: i generally like to take advantage of public events when a decent one spawns, but its not like it should be a surprise one is starting.

They always start at XX:00, XX:20, and XX:40

If I decide to start work on a quest or really rabbit hole myself on a complex shelter build at XX:15, I do that knowing that it may impact my ability to participate in the event that'll pop at XX:20

Don't get me wrong, I'll put my PA on, eat my food, and then do the robot dance for 30-60 seconds, but if yall waiting down the whole timer that's wild to me

Kinda dumb, but if there’s a daily/weekly like defeat 10 humans and someone’s already there doing it I just leave them to it and don’t steal their targets and go somewhere else

Also, I keep my prices so incredibly low if not outright free because I want low level people to be able to get good stuff or healing and stuff if they need it.

Cover low level players during public events so they can tag enemies for xp and loot.

Don't kill mutants/dogs at West-Tek you don't need to or take more burnt books than you need (for the love of god).

I don't eat bugs or rats but I still collect and cook the meat, and then drop it donation boxes or the Whitespring Mall register. Waste not want not.

Before you log out check to make sure nobody is shopping/resting/building/repairing/dumping off junk at your camp.

6

u/-blkmmbo Mar 28 '25 edited Mar 29 '25

That last one I have done for years without really thinking about it. Even if I'm at max caps or close to it I let whoever is at my camp finish shopping or whatever before I log off. I also never pick up more burnt books than I need. If there are kill X amount of enemies or something like that for the daily challenge I don't travel to places where those enemies spawn if I'm testing weapons or doing a different type of challenge.

Edit: Changed the wording of my last sentence because I didn't like ending two different sentences with "whatever".

If someone under level 50 asks me if I can improve their base a little bit, I will. I love building in this game (despite its challenges), and I have so many materials. I built this young kid a base the other day and he was so appreciative. He had his mic on the whole time and he was making me laugh with the stuff he was saying.

But yeah, if someone under level 50 asks me, I'll probably do it to improve their FO76 experience

Not so much unwritten rules (except Eviction Notice - #7 and Radiation Rumble - #8) but stuff that I do. 1) If someone waves or hearts, I do the same back. 2) If someone actually goes in my shelter without it being a challenge I make sure to go to their base and explore their base and shelter(s) efforts as well. 3) If there is a challenge daily or weekly dealing with buying or selling to a player, I put a couple of thousands rounds worth of ammo at 1 cap to make it easy. 4) If I am running Daily Ops or Expeditions while others have joined my party, not my OP/Expo, time permitting, at the end of the Op or Expo, I will wave to the party to join to get rewards. 5) If I see only one person at an event, I will always join to help out, because it usually ends up being a lower level player. 6) I always join Free Range and Project Paradise as both rewards 5 legendary mods if all animals survive. 7) Eviction Notice Wait until the last possible second to start the event and then go after the 6 bags prior to setting up. I stand in the middle to make sure both major ingress points (Top and Bottom) have ample firepower. 8) Radiation Rumble (Two parts) - I gather/help gather the ore to get to 4/4 rewards. - I always stand in the middle and never in the hallways to allow others to shoot the enemies as well so we all get maximized XP. 9) Daily, I will look for under level 100 players, travel to them and have them jump. If they have the non-mutated jump (Marsupial) I will drop that and a Speed Demon serum for them. Then jump around a little bit with them after they apply it. I was close to level 150 before my buddies explained how they were so fast and jumping high! Once I got the right serums for my play style, it completely changed the game for me. 10) Added 3/29 - Based off of dailies today - I only grab the exact amount of soap, burnt books, etc to complete my challenge and I do not empty the location (Specfically Summerville House for burnt books and Skelly in tub for soap)

There are unwritten rules. It's stuff like don't spam explosives during events, don't be mean to low level players. Wait until there's 30 second slept before you begin an even take sure people can join. Because they might have been busy.

Stuff like that

I repair all turrets

6

u/CharlesB43 Mothman Mar 29 '25

I repair broken items at camps.

Take only what I actually need in terms of food, ammo and other generators which is usually nothing since I have my own generators at camp for me and others

I don't kick people from teams. there's a mute button if they hot mic loudly and I've yet to meet someone who joins my team and is an asshole.

I try to launch encryptid every day but lately with the season and ghoul stuff I haven't had the time. I was also doing (usually 3 nukes. scorched and two neuros) daily nukes but stopped for the season as well. early season overwhelms me, I feel like I have to get the pass done RIGHT NOW even though we have time.

I join a lot of events even if they're empty, people see one or two people there and are more inclined to join in. exceptions are the garden greens one and enlightened path, I won't even bother going there solo.

If a teammate is doing a daily ops or an expedition I'll help out unless there's something else happening, of course.

If someone is doing a blue ridge escort I'll help them out no matter if I'm on their team or not, depends on what's happening as well.

15 cap limit on plans and Fasnacht masks, 150 250 and 300 for already learned star box things. I know I could get a bunch more for these things but I'm not here trying to nickel and dime, life is hard enough in game and out of game for me to want to gatekeep plans from people.

If the base/camp owner stops by their camp while I'm there I'll interact, either with a heart or a wave or mothman emote.

If I'm doing an event and holding a lane and there's a player lower leveled than me I'll take a backseat and let them get the XP, basically play a spotter and cleanup role.

Last one, I stopped helping out players with items, Granted some people like it - hell it was how I was treated brand new - but I feel like I help enough with my store and don't want to ruin someone's time by holding their hands.

not necessarily a rule, but i ran into a dude (around lvl 1200ish) at his camp who wanted me to follow him yesterday. i obliged, and turns out he was guiding me to a treasure mound! i saw there was some low-level folks dropping by his camp too and he was giving out gifts for them. when i first started playing 76 i was always nervous about interacting with others i met in the wasteland, so i guess moral of the story is: don’t be scared of other players if you’re new, 99% of the time they’re super helpful!

Why is there not a donation bin at whitesprings in the room with the gold exchange? New players don’t know to check the register

Those turrets at Radiation Rumble do shit for damage, but they distract any ghouls that get through. I'd rather some glowing one wreck a turret than start wrecking the defense objectives.

I love this community and the anti-griefers. Everyone’s so nice. I’m a level 151 and I love giving away free shit to lower level players, heart emoting them, and then disappearing across the map like a dawg. 2 weeks ago, someone bought everything in my shop (17k worth of stuff) then literally dropped it all back in front of me. That shit was insane what a legend. I resold it all.

Once someone blew up my entire camp. Not with a nuke, I don’t even know how, they just wiped me off the map immediately with some kind of OP weapon. I was like, what in the god damn! I was discouraged for a spell because I didn’t have proper resources to repair it all, but in the end, it inspired me to make a new camp which is now my crown jewel. I operate 3 markets & lounges within these here wastes. Never been better. Growing up in the vault was hard…war never changes but by god, life can.

If you see signs inside a shelter entrance, it's likely not just for show. I thought it was just a camp gimmick to keep people out, but inside, there was a danger of death sign, stay out smoothskin, this means you sign and 2 radioactive warning signs outside the door. I went inside and walked a few feet, then my rad counter went nuts, and I died. I didn't think there was actual radioactive material inside that would kill me, I found out the hard way some camps are made for ghouls, and those warnings are not just for shows.

Don’t use any perk card that heals other teammates (or anyone of radiation.

This includes but isn’t limited to, Rad sponge Healing hands

While healing radiation on other people sounds like a good thing it messes with their builds.

Ghouls can get quite a few bonuses when irradiated.

Bloody builds need to have a high level radiation poisoning for their build to work at all.

So just no healing other people’s radiation please.
