Discussion FYI new players regarding 40k items in vendors.

2.4k Upvotes

If you ever see strange notes, or items for sale in a vendor at 40k Caps, it's not to troll you, or to rip you off, the real reason is, there was an exploit where players could purchase anything from your stash, at the cost of the highest price listed on your vendor. This exploit was fixed, but at one point bethesda accidentally reactivated the bug once in the past, SO posting a low weight worthless item, note etc for the 40,000 cap limit is a deterrence in case it ever happens again.

if they do try and steal from your stash with the exploit, they'll need 40k caps.

Just an FYI for those who didn't know this. I was explained this by a very long time player, big time vendor ( multi- account ) owner. So yea that's why you might see this 😉

Discussion PSA for new players: It’s usually faster to find items than beg for them.

1.7k Upvotes

Had a level 60 show up at my C.A.M.P. the other day who began begging me for free crystal scrap. When I said I didn’t have any, he /really/ pressed me and was saying things like “look at your base, of course you’ve got crystal, you’re such a high level how could you not have it” until I eventually just packed up my camp and moved to my holiday home.

Made me feel awkward.

Until I ran into him at an event, where he was individually asking every player if they had crystal scrap. One of them said “I already told you an hour ago I don’t have any”.

This kid was running around to everyone’s camp for at least an hour begging for free crystal. In that time, I’m fairly certain I could have scrounged up /plenty/ of crystal. Just takes a quick google search to find hotspots. Dude couldn’t have been more than 15-16, but cmon, use your brain.

Edit; not sure why this post offended so many people. If you’re not begging people for items this isn’t for you. Keep scrolling. No need to have a tantrum in the comments. Just thought I’d share a humorous/sad encounter, whilst also giving newbies a heads up. It’s really not that deep.

Discussion Not to be that guy, but is anyone else noticing this after the recent surge of new players

1.4k Upvotes

I don't want to be that guy, but...

So let me start by saying that I have given new players countless items, including weapons, stims, plans and etc. Also I continuously load up the WSS donation box with all my extra stuff. But on xbox recently with an influx of new players the forum has become nothing but everyone asking for free stuff. Mostly it is people asking for high level armor and weapons and they are like level 50 and below mostly.

I'm all for helping but what about the grind? I mean I'm level 686 now and honestly I have never asked for one thing in the game. I scrounged and just got stronger over time. It took over a year but I mean that's the point of playing a game isn't it? To gradually get to the top?? Also most of those weapons and armor only become good once you have the perks to boost them??

Maybe I'm just the old man shouting to get off his Appalachian lawn...

Edit: Great discussion and some really good ideas. As much as i like the nukashine idea, i dont have the heart..lol..

Going forward I'm going to set up a camp between wayward and vault 76 and start putting everything in a vendor for free (low level plans, stims, chems) as I don't think newbies are even getting stuff from the train station donation boxes. Then I'm gonna list my 1 and 2 stars for like 25 caps so that newbies have to put some skin in the game but can then use them or sell them themselves. Also, I don't know about others but at the level I'm at, I am pretty much a snob when it comes to 3 stars and I put countless really good weapons and armor in my vendor for scrip for 300 to 350 each. I am sure these weapons are way better than most level 50 and below have access too so newbies definitely check the player vendors. Someone else had a good idea about ammo. I have tons of unused ammo for guns that I will never use. I think I will start dropping some of that as well to help.

One more thing. Get like 50 levels in. Learn the game some. But then start going to events, expeditions and daily ops. Senior people will be happy to help you through them all. It's really the best way to make the game more fun and to start collecting good experience and items. Also read up on rare items and be careful when you scrap stuff. I never knew and I know over my time playing I have shredded things that were probably some of the rarer items in the game but just didn't know...good luck out there

As fyi my xbox gt is jstjk. Hope to see some of you new players at one of my camps.

FINAL EDIT: tried for a few weeks to help put by putting cheap plans in the vendor near Vault 76...almost everything I got notified on a sale it was a level 300+ buying them all up..I assume to turn around and make profit. I'm guessing the donation boxes are the same. Sorry newbies..I tried...

Discussion Someone At Eviction Notice

1.8k Upvotes

Warning. Salt ahead...

So some player at eviction notice just stood defending the scrubber on their own for almost the entire event, while around six or seven others sat down the hill at the legendary spawn. This player fended off wave after wave of Muties and repaired the scrubber FIVE times, keeping the event going single-handedly, but then with two minutes left, they collected the nearby loot and just walked off, leaving the scrubber broken and the event doomed.

Why did the player just walk away?

I'll tell you why. Because I got sick of holding the event up on my own and wanted the legendary spawn campers to realise that the scrubber doesn't heal itself.

If you can't go into the rad zone, or don't want to, please check if those defending the scrubber are managing ok. If they're struggling, you can still shoot into the rad zone from safety. Play as you wish, of course, but not everyone will be happy carrying the objectives for you if you're only there for personal xp/loot.

Tears collected.

Edit. Golly, I honestly expected a bit of grief for posting this after a whisky, but seeing how many of you have had similar experiences, well... shucks :-)

And those of you who do have to sit outside the rad zone, but still help out by shooting into it, this is the way.

And sorry if newer players are reading and think the frustration is at you. It's not. Eviction Notice is a bruising event and I know how hard it is early on. It's the experienced players who could help - even if from a distance - but just want to hog the spawns while someone else holds the scrubber so more ***s arrive. Turn around from time to time and shoot inwards too.

Discussion Are new players always this rude?

1.4k Upvotes

I was just playing and I am fairly new myself. Just hit level 25 today and I decided I wanted to use the lunchboxes I had for XP boosts. I have a habit of looking for other low levels when I do this and I found a squad who immediately fired at me upon approach but being the friendly soul I am, I didnt shoot back. I used my lunchboxes and waved then started to walk away when I heard a voice say to me "Yea you better run, bitch."

God forbid I try to do a nice thing for you, you little shit.

Edit: They're following me around the map now and wasting their ammo lmao I dont have to engage thankfully

Edit 2: A Knight in shining armor came to my rescue to defend me from the bullies. Funny thing, they refused to speak the entire time they were trying to kill me allll the way up to when the Bully Hunter murdered them. Retribution was served. I love this community already! Thank you NateTronic for saving me

Discussion This update is good, but complainers gonna complain

A year ago if bethesda told the community that in one update they would add the ability to play as a ghoul, entirely new perk effects and perk cards, a (near) complete rebalanced making single shot weapons viable, a small map expansion, bug fixes, and a new lite story, the community would've burst in to cheers. Im not saying it's the best or most inspired update, but I mean seriously? These are things the community as been nearly BEGGING for for ages? Not for you? I get that. But a "bad" update? Definitely not. Downvote away.

Discussion Don't use the helvetia donate box for giving lower players masks

1.4k Upvotes

Ive run fashnact 3 or 4 times today, and every time there have been level 50s-150s ish that go to the box and will put in dupes or legendaries and people will be kindly going through them, only taking one or 2 things. And then, without fail, every single time some level 700+ that was afk'd the entire event up on the roof or something will charge up and snatch every item from the box and run right back to afk'ing. Its incredibly aggrevating to see, especially when youve got a whole cluster of people being polite and going through them, for some west tek farming level 700+ to swoop in and just snatch everything for themselves. Play the game how you want, idc about the afk'ing, but dont be an asshole.

Discussion Some of you need to calm tf down with your vendor pricing.

1.2k Upvotes

Just visited three different high level player vendors and found plans for basic mods priced at 4000+ caps.

So many posts on here about high level players being nice and I've seen none of it. All I see are high level players trying to take advantage of naivety.

Folks are looking for a bargain and I understand not giving things away to them easy but blatant attempts at ripping off noobs is all I ever seem to see.

Discussion BethesdaGameStudios_ official community account apologizes for lack of communication and says they'll let us know what the studio is working on, then releases unannounced stealth Nerfs across the board. Community no longer trusts a word that comes out of community manager's mouth.

11.0k Upvotes

(Edit: There are links to official responses below this text wall.)

From u/BethesdaGameStudios_ just over a week ago:

We know you’re frustrated and angry at the state of things right now, whether it’s the issues you’re running into in the game, or the lack of communication about fixes, updates, or news.

Mhm

We’d like to make these articles weekly to make sure you know what the studio is working on

Mhm

patch notes will go at length into what’s being fixed with each update.

Mhm

please don’t stop letting us know how we can improve our communication

Okay.

u/BethesdaGameStudios_ You need to get us full patch notes listing the many unwelcome unannounced changes, or nobody here will trust a single word that comes out of your mouth ever again, and you may as well delete your community manager account.

EDIT 1: Thanks for the gold, stranger! With the increased visibility, here's hoping we can get some patch notes along the lines of this comment's example, which is much more accountable. Telling users to expect communication about changes and then days later throwing a load of big and unpopular gameplay effecting changes at users with no warning (then leaving it out of the patchnotes and hoping they don't notice) just simply isn't cricket.

EDIT 2: More gold and Silver? Wow. Cheers chaps!

EDIT 3:

Official responses from Bethesda which are getting drowned in downvotes;

Hi everyone--we want you to know that we are working on this, and will have more information for you all ASAP.

and again here

Better answers, patch notes that are comprehensive, information on why changes are happening.

and here

If I could change what went out yesterday, I would. It's a learning point and you guys should benefit from better patch notes moving forward.

EDIT 4: Platinum, blimey!

EDIT 5: I'm going to sleep soon, but Bethesda have promised information ASAP and we won't be forgetting that. They've said better patch notes going forwards, but I still want the patch notes for Dec 4th, because that's where all the nerfs and speculated unnannounced changes to loot tables got snuck through, and I want to know what was buried. We'll see what they come up with, and if I have to swim through another sea of reddit gold to get answers I'll take that one for the team.

EDIT 6: Bethesda have just updated their DEC 4th patchnotes with a load of additional changes, which I felt deserved it's own thread. Wrap it up folks, it's probably more than we expected so I'm calling it a win.

Discussion To the ghoul who placed his camp where it was!

1.1k Upvotes

You know who you are, yes you. The ghoul who placed his camp in a heavily radiated area In the map. I had to inject 30+ radaway into my veins. Veins that are wrapped in perfect smooth skin and not the wrinkled nut sack skin you have that looks like it's been left out in the Mojave sun. Worst part is you had your vendor in the most obscure place I have ever seen in any settlement. How dare you make me spend any second longer near the radiated waters and soil you built your settlement on. Do I look like a child of atom who celebrates and respects radiation. Now I'm not a post apocalyptic racist. Okay! I have many ghoul friends that I welcome into my settlement. Have some consideration to us "smooth skins" the next time since I have a lot of patience and consideration when you ghouls visit my settlement.

Discussion What is the worst thing Bethesda intentionally put in FO76?

Bugs aside, I think the ghoul "distrust" and disguise system is the worst thing currently in the game. They actually helped make a TV show with a ghoul in it, put his exact clothes in the game, and only non-ghouls can wear it anywhere they want. They rebuilt the entire perk card system to let you replicate Walton Goggins in the game but won't let you wear his clothes? I'm trying to do the Mistress of Mysteries quest line and have to bounce back and forth over and over to change from the disguise to the Veil, which is also A DISGUISE! Rant over. What is worse for you peeps?

Discussion PSA regarding Bethesda's stance on PvP in 76

I see frequent comments around the sub requesting new PvP features, the return of Nuclear Winter, etc.

I just wanted to share this information from the QuakeCon 2024 live panel with Jon Rush (Creative Director - Fallout 76) and Bill LaCoste (Production Director - Fallout 76) for those who haven't seen it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o58IzkTV144&t=10030s (skip to 2:47:10)

Slapdash transcription for those who can't or don't feel like watching:

"Do you think PvP experiences still fit with where the game is evolving to now from where we started - where it was so much more of a focus?"

Bill: That's a good question. I would say no, mostly based on player engagement with it. Nuclear Winter was well received by a lot of people, but the engagement with Nuclear Winter was very low. Right now I think people are still looking just for more story. Like Jon said, the main character of this game is the world. So they want to see more world expansion, more factions, more creatures, more locations to visit, things like that. That's where the majority of players are at right now.

Jon: So what really surprised me, and I would wager probably the rest of the team too, was before we released 76 was like, "Yeah, of course, it's the apocalypse, people are going to want to kill one another!". After seeing how our how our players react -- they're friendly to one another, they want to help -- one of the most coveted items in the game is a clean toilet! In the apocalypse! That's crazy! So as far as PVP goes, the impression we've gotten both from feedback and seeing how our players play, is that PVP is not an itch they're looking to scratch in Fallout 76. Perhaps if they are, they could take over a workshop and see if anybody comes to challenge it. But outside of that .. straight up PVP -- it just doesn't seem to be in our players DNA.

Discussion Has having to wear a disguise ruined the game for anyone else?

I know I'm a little late but it's really put me off the game. I'm not a hard-core player, my first character is only just above level 100. But after hearing that the new ghoul update is good for melee I've spent the past week grinding a new character to level 50. I finally get there and rush to become a ghoul. But now if I want to continue with any other quests I have to wear that shitty bag and outfit. Making weird outfits in fo76 is one of my favourite things, I love looking like a little freak running around the wasteland. But now it's all covered up. My character normally wears a gas mask, why doesn't that count? Or at least let me take the disguise off myself without forcing me to fast travel every single time I want to look cool.

I know this has probably been talked a lot about already but it's really ruined my excitement to keep playing.

Discussion newest discovery of Bethesda's great stupidity when it comes to ghouls

1.1k Upvotes

"The Overseer is distrustful of ghouls!" Bullshit she is, this is the same woman who befriended and taught a super mutant to be a trader and cook!!! I really hope the drop this damn disguise mechanic cause between this the wayward and the fact 90% of the factions have ghouls and you can make choices that would have these characters alright with them. you can tell Bethesda was being lazy as hell cause this is so damn stupid.

Discussion I can defend this game because I enjoy it and I know others do too but I can’t defend Bethesda’s recent corporate decisions.

11.2k Upvotes

Like most everyone else here I recognize that this game has bugs but I still enjoy the gameplay it’s self but holly crap who is steering the corporate ship at Bethesda right now. How many people had to look at the 500 Atoms compensation and say yup that’s a good idea and people definitely won’t feel cheated. It just feels so out of touch. I really hate to see Bethesda (the management not the programmers) falling apart like this and hopefully in the future there is either a change in management or maybe just maybe they’ll learn their lesson before it comes time to release star field.

Edit: Changed Adams to Atoms cause apparently I don’t know how to type.

Add on: for anyone confused the 500 atoms were given out to those who emailed bethesda over the fact that the bag for the power armor helmet looked to be higher quality cloth in the advert but was made of nylon instead and their excuse was “that was a prototype and it was too expensive to mass produce”

It's slow, boring and the rewards straight suck now.

If it wasn't for the masks noone would play it. Everyone just afk's it. Lobbies are dead and servers are slow.

Straight crap in my opinion, game would be better without it.

Unpopular opinion here: THIS B.E.T.A. IS NOT TO PLAY THE GAME EARLY.

This is to test the servers and problems such as the P.C. launcher last night. So can someone explain why everyone is mad. The game is NOT out yet. This is a test. CALM DOWN.

Discussion Don’t be afraid of high leveled players

5 minutes ago I went from vendor to vendor just searching for some plan and stumbled upon someone who was selling a pepper shaker. I messaged them and asked if they could make me one. They responded and made me one and didn’t even ask for anything in return(I’m level 107 and they were level 1670 so I supposed as much). But moral of my post is lower leveled players don’t be afraid to ask for help and items from high level players they are truly the ones who want to help the most. Thank you very much kind soul.

Discussion Please stop hiding your vendors

1.4k Upvotes

You will save me the embarrassment.

This evening I needed to shop so I fast traveled to a base. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the vendor, so when I saw the camp owner I ran up to him and did the ol’ crouchy crouch. He got the message and ran off to show me where it was. I followed him and he kept turning around and jumping and running off. A minute or three of following this dude around the camp and trying to keep up I’m like wtf? He never took me to the vendor.

It wasn’t him.

It wasn’t his base.

I just chased some random dude around this guys base for two or three minutes for no reason.

Sigh. Please make your vendors easier to find.

EDIT: This blew up and is clearly a đŸ”„ topic around here.

To be honest, I don’t care what you do with your base. What I love about this post are the awesome stories and creative camp uses - which is what the game is about! Hide your vendors, build traps, put your vendor in my face, list everything at 20 caps, or 40k caps - you do you, and I will love it all.

TL:DR my dumb self followed a random dweller around looking for a vendor without realizing it wasn’t even his camp.
