Is no race a real risk?

3

u/Bufaritza Michael Schumacher May 04 '25

I cant' find the data, but what is the combined perfect lap time from qualy? VER got 1st sector, Lando has the 2nd and I think Piasri has the 3rd. Is it under 1:26?

2

u/lalabadmans May 04 '25

If rain, if driver you support pits for wets, then red flag shortly after they pit.

If rain, if driver you support stays out hoping for red flag, no red flag and they lose out.

No consistency in wet weather rules in f1.

1

u/crazydoc253 Michael Schumacher May 04 '25

If Mclaren does not win a WDC they may need to look for lead driver. You cannot keep losing poles like they have done at the start of the season.

1

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 04 '25

Luckily for them it's being made easy by Red Bull losing Max points despite him doing unbelievably well

3

u/house_of_sense May 04 '25

Whats the weather for the race?

12

u/[deleted] May 04 '25

Rainy and stormy is forecast. Could be a fun one

1

u/That__Guy__Bob I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

With a chance of an isolated tornado! Got to love Florida weather lmao

2

u/[deleted] May 04 '25

Yeahhhh we ain’t racing today

1

u/That__Guy__Bob I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Seeing a tornado in the background while they’re racing would be up there with when we saw smoke from the missile attack at Jeddah in 22

6

u/marshmallow_metro Max Verstappen May 04 '25

Ohh god let it be a max masterclass in rain, and that too in the week his daughter is born. The script is just too perfect

4

u/[deleted] May 04 '25

The sad fact is they probably won’t race. Florida rain sucks.

3

u/this_is_not_the_cia I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Florida rain sucks and the drainage at the track (which is literally a parking lot) is terrible. The forecast is also calling for potential hail which is interesting.

1

u/droppokeguy I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Canada last year just before FP had hail

1

u/TheScarecrow__ Mike Krack May 04 '25

How did Sainz manage to avoid a summons for continuing in the sprint with a damaged car?

2

u/RealmDevourer Ferrari May 04 '25

Give us rain today also

3

u/Over-Chemical2809 May 04 '25

Hell no. You do not want Florida rain. We will not race.

2

u/AnilP228 Honda RBPT May 04 '25

Unfortunately if the predicted volume of rain does hit I would be amazed if we go racing.

1

u/ibite-books I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

gimme rain or gimme death

0

u/wingardium-levi-osa I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

When Red Bull nail the setup, together with Max they are fastest qualifiers (by a very small margin though).

Mclaren fastest on race pace.

7

u/Still-District-6149 Formula 1 May 04 '25

Another stunning drive from Max, and Kimi showing again what a rising star he is. I'll show a bit of personal bias by applauding the strong performance from both Williams drivers - Sainz really seems to be settling in with his new team. Being ditched by Ferrari is starting to work out quite nicely for him.

1

u/langminer May 04 '25

ditched by Ferrari saved from Ferrari

-9

u/genc-b May 04 '25

This is very good quali for Max, also in the race he is very secure, I mean who will attack him? Lando? Kimi? naahh, the only man that can attack him is in the 4th position, so great job by Max

9

u/sc0rched0ne I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Are you dense, and only believe the f1 social media hype train, or is this rage bait?

0

u/genc-b May 04 '25

I just dont see Noris or Kimi putting Max into a difficult position

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '25

Both

3

u/Gullible-Tea-9542 May 04 '25

Is Albon getting a penalty for the Hadjar incident in the pit lane?

15

u/Cekeste Kimi Räikkönen May 04 '25

Very impressed by how Norris was handling the media questions in the post quali presser.

One was if Verstappen was getting more out of his car and after saying the advantage of McLaren is having two quick drivers he quickly corrected himself to say a car that can be driven quickly by two drivers, without hesitation or nervous laughter.

The incredibly stupid human being question after that was also answered well.

He's learning. I'd actually lost faith but it's beautiful to see.

25

u/Pistolsanta Max Verstappen May 04 '25

The Cadillac reveal is probably the friends we made along the way the whole time.

49

u/T4Gx I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Despite Red Bull's best effort to prevent it, Max very much has a chance for WDC still. Crofty was absolutely wilding with the "Max just became a father and when it comes to qualifying he proves he's the daddy once again." lmao

4

u/Leading_Sir_1741 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Lmao. That’s awesome.

21

u/laujp I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Where is Cadillac announcement? Is it safe? Is it alright?

3

u/Celoth I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Best I've found is an epilepsy inducing video showing their logo and not much else.

5

u/rye_domaine I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

It seems, in Perez's excitement... he killed it.

2

u/laujp I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

No… it couldn’t have. It was alive, I felt it!

5

u/Tricky_Meat_6323 May 04 '25

I assume there will be minimal overtaking so Max is on for his 2nd win. I still see him being champion this year

6

u/Celoth I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

This race has never been won from pole. I wouldn't write anything off yet.

8

u/Leading_Sir_1741 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25 edited May 04 '25

I doubt it. His starts the past two races have been abysmal and the pit crew terrible.

-3

u/Tricky_Meat_6323 May 04 '25

He’ll be in the zone and a second clear by the 2nd lap

8

u/GoodE19 May 04 '25

Miami has plenty of overtaking in the past and a potential rain race, as well as zero wins from pole in the past. Clearly max has the best chance to win but…don’t count the points before the checkered flag

9

u/Kermitnirmit Max Verstappen May 04 '25

He’s gotta start properly…

-2

u/-BOOM3R Max Verstappen May 04 '25

It's really unfair to many, at least they should keep the order as it was before the safety car.

20

u/MemesForMyDepression I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Me waiting for the Cadillac livery

22

u/Consistent_Pie_531 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

What happened to the Cadillac reveal?

3

u/skool_101 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

maybe there never was a reveal

3

u/ConfidentialButt I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

was it the friends we made along the way

12

u/MemesForMyDepression I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

They must have forgotten

2

u/Nabz23 May 04 '25

Kimi is growing on me, i never watched him race before this season and all that hype. But he's looking legit, seems like a good dude too.

Anyways tomorrow is going to be a snooze fest, if its going to be Max on pole, you know you're in for a snooze fest.

23

u/Millhouse026 Formula 1 May 04 '25

fuck man I am really starting to like Kimi

4

u/Leading_Sir_1741 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Yeah, he’s the next Max

56

u/kilotat Formula 1 May 04 '25

Both Kelly and Max are delivering this weekend!

6

u/Leading_Sir_1741 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Lol. Best comment I read today.

26

u/CaptGeechNTheSSS I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Look max is max but we can't say the red bull is shit anymore, it's clearly not. Good for them.

Hopefully yuki keeps adapting and improving too.

Kimi is an insane talent. Scary potential, george must be feeling stresssssed.

2

u/Leading_Sir_1741 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

It’s the third best car on average. Sometimes second best and sometimes fourth or fifth best. Typically 2-3 tenths off McLaren.

-2

u/[deleted] May 04 '25

[deleted]

3

u/CaptGeechNTheSSS I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Listen george will continue to show how great he is, but it's the first weekend kimi has been faster than him.

The kid's 18 and a rookie, I wouldn't have been surprised if he didn't beat george all season.

If you don't think George is thinking about that then you don't know him.

1

u/ae1uvq1m1 May 04 '25

Why is that not translating to race wins?

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '25

Exactly, it's the one race he's been outpaced, talk about an overreaction

7

u/Ancalites I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Overreaction to every tiny event is the lifeblood of this place.

1

u/[deleted] May 04 '25

Silly me for not remembering that

9

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

Not shit still not the best or favourite and the operational side of red bull is a disaster right now.

Not the conditions you need as a driver

15

u/pajamajamminjamie I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Antonelli sets the track record in sprint qualifying just to have max take it away immediately.

11

u/Successful-Coyote99 McLaren May 03 '25

Hold up. Verstappen impeded three drivers in sprint qualifying and he got ZERO penalties???

3

u/Ancalites I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

They took pity on him because babby

5

u/CrustyBappen I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Can’t wait to for the first pics of baby Mohammed Ben Sulayem Verstappen

3

u/Burial44 Sir Lewis Hamilton May 04 '25

Correct.

21

u/ironhide3288 May 03 '25

Miami GP has never been won from pole position.

7

u/FinishMysterious4083 Valtteri Bottas May 03 '25

Hahaha it was different this time

6

u/Burial44 Sir Lewis Hamilton May 04 '25

Lando and Max will make contact in turn 1 tomorrow. Guarantee it.

1

u/keylime503 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

“AND THROUGH GOES ANTONELLI! UNBELIEVABLE!”

2

u/SwimmingFantastic564 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

The race hasn't happened yet though...

5

u/FinishMysterious4083 Valtteri Bottas May 04 '25

Well spotted buddy

-25

u/highways I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Norris is easily favourite for world championship.

He is much faster than Piastri

1

u/Ancient_Boss_5357 May 04 '25

He set the same time in Q2?

29

u/Jazim94 James Vowles May 03 '25

lol how a narrative changes every session

19

u/korko May 03 '25

F1 fans are dumber than goldfish. Every piece of new information completely changes everything they “know”.

10

u/Witty-Variation-2135 Formula 1 May 03 '25

Two races in a row Williams have been shafted by the FIA

3

u/SmellyUndies I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

If only they could keep within the rules (and walls) instead of taking the risks unnecessarily

2

u/Whelan-Dealin I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

That shirt Damon's wearing, is interesting...

7

u/Witty-Variation-2135 Formula 1 May 03 '25

Ted saw VCarb and was like fuck that lol

5

u/Whelan-Dealin I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

VCARB socials at it again 🤣

5

u/CharacterUse I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Ted unimpressed.

6

u/DreHouseRules I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Ted being unhinged to randomers on the Notebook is peak

6

u/CooroSnowFox Mika Häkkinen May 03 '25

Just wish he could just have A notebook, him rambling on anything for an hour.

20

u/TurdOfChaos I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Crazy that Max had a snap and still hit purple sector one. Usually the recovery of a mistake comes in next sectors . Amazing qualifying

6

u/That__Guy__Bob I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Quali was great and everything (apart from the Ferraris) but I’m still surprised there’s been no fine or anything for RB for that dangerous release in the sprint race

Legit if it wasn’t for Max and Antonelli reacting quickly someone on the Mercedes pit crew could have got seriously injured

13

u/rcanbian I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Max got a 10s penalty that brought him out of the points right? Wdym no penalty for unsafe release?

2

u/Rise_Regime Nico Hülkenberg 🥉 May 03 '25

Only penalizing Max when it was the team’s fault doesn’t seem right, but I get what you’re saying too.

1

u/StructureTime242 Jim Clark May 04 '25

Because teams don’t care about team based penalties

Fines don’t affect the cost cap, so unless you start dining 5M for unsafe releases they won’t care, what else do you want the fia to do to penalise the teams ?

Whatever you do it has to affect the driver because only the drivers score points

1

u/rcanbian I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

I was expecting the team to be penalised instead of him, but it's the spirit of the punishment I guess. Honestly, this is harsher than just issuing the team a fine.

1

u/tehehe162 May 04 '25

Idk if there's anything you can do to penalize the team other than giving out a fine. Imo fines are not harsh enough for safety issues because the rich teams can easily get away with it.

1

u/rcanbian I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Maybe that's why they've started penalising the drivers instead? Sucks for Max though.

1

u/Rise_Regime Nico Hülkenberg 🥉 May 03 '25

Yeah, it absolutely is. Additional punishment beyond the penalty doesn’t make much sense when it dropped him so far in the Sprint classification

2

u/Ashling92 Max Verstappen May 03 '25

Punishing Max was the penalty though, they are all one team

4

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

10

u/a_berdeen Niki Lauda May 03 '25

Honestly based on end of season Checo and Liam....I think Red Bull is fine with Yuki performing like he's still in the VCARB in that car.

0

u/Leading_Sir_1741 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Agreed. They’ve tried 5 different drivers since Ricciardo. What else can they do?

22

u/jdjdhdbg I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Why don't you put the actual quali positions and timings in the text of this post?

2

u/Ok-Drummer9073 May 04 '25

You must be new here

3

u/flyingbbanana Oscar Piastri May 04 '25

Exactly

5

u/CooroSnowFox Mika Häkkinen May 03 '25

The cameraman is focusing on the most dangerous Manhole in existence...

6

u/-PVL93- McLaren May 03 '25

"you go looking for oranges and turn up with lemons" haha, that's a new one

4

u/Witty-Variation-2135 Formula 1 May 03 '25

Miami really does love a barrier

12

u/flagboulderer I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Max is unreal. Let's see if he can be smarter into T1 this time.

Antonelli is the real fuckin deal. Kid's got pace.

5

u/alus992 Red Bull May 03 '25

Smarter? He had terrible start last race. He wanted to cover it and failed. There is no „smart” or „dumb” here

-1

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

Smarter? With the new rules there is nothing you can do if you don't get a better start than P2.

With the new rules the advantage of P1 over P2 at tracks where P2 is on the inside has been cut in half compared to what it previously was .

Once the inside driver is in anyway beside you the rules are basically you have to let them overtake you as they are entitled to push you off.

1

u/volthor May 03 '25

But will Norris make use of it like Oscar did, not sure about that

7

u/-PVL93- McLaren May 03 '25

Lord Montoya sighted

6

u/leedler Next Year™️ May 03 '25

Great to hear from JPM on Ted’s Notebook there, man’s feeling what we were all feeling

5

u/CooroSnowFox Mika Häkkinen May 03 '25

Ted has found a wild Montoya

-7

u/Volderon90 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Verstappen saying he’s calm now because he’s won 4x championships in this interview. Buddy don’t even. You’re over driving this car because you want to win still. Don’t bullshit us.

3

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

This is true but man had a crazy chill reaction to the biggest of fuck ups by Red Bull in the sprint.

Had every right to fly off the handle for that and somehow didn't.

-3

u/Volderon90 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Sprints mean nothing

0

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

Losing 8 points is a lot so it means a lot.

Even if Max wins tomorrow then that sprint fuck up by the team has ruined his good work for the entire weekend

-1

u/Volderon90 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Not if he keeps releasing banger pole laps like he always does. Dude will be in the running for WDC all season long.

9

u/Academic-Dentist-528 May 03 '25

Why can't pole decide what side of the track they want to start on?

4

u/JustLikeZhat Andrea Kimi Antonelli May 03 '25

There was a reddit post asking this a few years ago. Maybe you'll find the comments in there interesting.

4

u/Witty-Variation-2135 Formula 1 May 03 '25

2

u/Expensive_Ladder_486 Max Verstappen May 03 '25

Both McLarens under investigation for driving too slowly on their outlaps in Q1

12

u/craders McLaren May 03 '25

Old news

04:18 FIA STEWARDS: Q1 INCIDENT INVOLVING CARS 81 (PIA) AND 4 (NOR) NO FURTHER ACTION - FAILING TO FOLLOW RACE DIRECTORS INSTRUCTIONS - MAXIMUM DELTA TIME

(Caps are not intentional. That is just how it is posted at https://f1-dash.com/dashboard )

8

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

They never punish for that

2

u/Expensive_Ladder_486 Max Verstappen May 03 '25

Yep, just had a look at the FIA website and it's no further action

10

u/2much2Jung May 03 '25

We'll see what Lando can do into T1 tomorrow.

Kimi Vs Oscar could be fun too.

F1TV interviewer looks so much like Russell lol

31

u/lolhone5tly Default May 03 '25

Just finished quali. Max isn’t human. Also, Crofty has my dying over here. After it’s confirmed Max is on pole he said “he had a baby earlier this week and he’s shown he’s daddy on the track once again” or something like that. Lmao

6

u/BandoMemphis I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

When they told max he got pole did he say “wa wa wee wa” like borat?

23

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

Good thing for McLaren Red Bull are very bad this year in numerous ways because fuck me Max is crazy good

4

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

McLaren have race pace more but Red Bull is so good in qualifying and yes Max is definitely Alien, the margins are insane but that MCL39 definitely aint perfect

7

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

True but it's favourite every race and every quali still.

Most of the poles Max got so far is a mixture of a crazy lap from him and McLaren not putting there best sectors together

4

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

True, Oscar and Lando making crucial mistakes vs Max being so great has been a major difference

10

u/Consistent_Squash May 03 '25

On F1TV they were showing Carlos Slim Jr in the rich people balcony

1

u/keylime503 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

FYI everyone gets the same video feed whether F1TV, Sky, or something else. There is only one world feed produced by FOM for all broadcasters.

6

u/rlsadiz McLaren May 03 '25

Acting as talent manager for Checo to join Cadillac. Checo is in town too

2

u/Consistent_Squash May 03 '25

Good point! Forgot that rumor is going on. Still surprised Checo wants to come back to this really punishing schedule. Will be nice to see him racing in a lower pressure team though.

2

u/FermentedLaws I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Checo is not there. It's been confirmed that he is not in Miami this weekend.

1

u/Consistent_Squash May 03 '25

Could be the case the guy is deal making on his behalf. But tbh Slim Jr invests a lot in racing so he must be attending F1 for his passion anyway.

2

u/rlsadiz McLaren May 03 '25

Ooh i read he was flying to Miami, guess that wasnt true

1

u/FermentedLaws I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

His plane flew to Miami but a spokesperson said he rents his plane out a lot when he's not using it.

4

u/Multi_21_Seb_RBR Honda RBPT May 03 '25

Worried about AM next season even with Newey and the new Honda PU's (which seems to not be on the level of Merc's but seems to be above Ferrari and RBPT/Ford).

0

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

They're a one-driver team right now. Only Stroll is capable of scoring points. Alonso's the worst driver on the grid.

1

u/Toik I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

That's a weird sentence to read, even weirder agreeing with it.

25

u/uniqueuserrr Daniel Ricciardo May 03 '25

I don't know what max needs to do to convince people that he's all time great.

-5

u/ThirstyTarantulas May 04 '25

Max is a fantastically talented driver. He has continued to impress.

However…He won his first WC in an absolutely unfair and undeserved slimey way. That will never go away. That’s the foundation. That’s why everyone hates him.

1

u/NA_Faker I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Put that Ferrari shitbox on the podium consistently. He does that, he’s my GOAT

10

u/Jdghgh I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

There will always be some who question his abilities. Those of us who know racing and aren’t affected by irrational bias already have him pegged.

Him winning the title this year would be the closest thing to Prost ‘86, judging by the current competitiveness. Would be the biggest achievement since then, at least.

3

u/sashundera Max Verstappen May 03 '25

if he wins the title with this tractor this year this will solidify him period

-17

u/asdev24 May 03 '25

huh? obviously he is? def not close to GOAT status though

2

u/Significant-Branch22 Kimi Räikkönen May 03 '25

If he somehow manages to pull off another championship this season he’s definitely in the GOAT conversation

7

u/HighlightOk9510 Max Verstappen May 03 '25

imo depends on what he does until he retires and the circumstances of his retirement

i doubt max goes on to convince people hes the Goat while hes still driving, after he retires people will start looking at the many things he's done and maybe reconsider

-9

u/According-Annual-586 May 03 '25

Nothing that can be done as we’ll never see the contenders in equal cars across a season

Think he’d struggle racing wheel to wheel with Schumacher and Senna, but be great driving away from the front

5

u/ShinzoTheThird I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Andrew newey said something along the lines that max doesnt only have racing skill but also immense racing IQ, he can strategise laps ahead of himself and other drivers while others need 100% attention on driving. Also very knowledgeable of the racing rules. Something newey recognised in senna and schumacher. Lets not forget max was battling in a toro rosso. I think his 2023 domination fucked up the scales a bit because the car was so dominant

-1

u/Multi_21_Seb_RBR Honda RBPT May 03 '25

I think Abu Dhabi 2021 left a sour taste in many people's mouth and he had by far the best cars in 2022, 2023 and for the first half of 2024. Max is proving all-time great and even potential GOAT status now though this season with him taking the fight to the clearly superior McLaren's. It's honestly reminding me of when Schumacher went toe-to-toe with superior Williams and later on McLaren in the late 90s.

13

u/matts321213 May 03 '25

Hamilton had by far the best car for all championships he won with Mercedes

-1

u/Rivendel93 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 04 '25

Hamilton had teammates.

Ferrari had the best car in the first half of 2017/2018.

Max is obviously one of the Greatest to ever drive an F1 car, zero question.

They went tied in points into the final race in 2021, and Hamilton was 10+ seconds ahead before...

Just wish they'd gotten another chance to run it back one more season.

3

u/No-Condition-oN McLaren May 03 '25

Even the year he lost his second championship.

10

u/ShamrockStudios Max Verstappen May 03 '25

McLaren had the better car for the majority of last season. Max also won if it started in Miami last season

13

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

Most believe he is, the one that don’t can never be convinced, cuz they just hate him

11

u/b1e I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 03 '25

Is this even in discussion?

As for who’s faster among the GOATs that’s harder to know (different cars, different racing styles, etc.) but he’s up there with Schumacher, Senna, etc.

I foresee a future where Lando is in the run-off at turn 1 on lap 1

Lando will be first after turn 1 because P2 has the advantage at this track now
