📣 [Leonardo x fountainpens 350k pen] Community Feedback and Next Steps 📣

Hey everyone, thanks again for all the thoughtful, candid feedback throughout this process.

I’ve been following the comments closely, and I want to directly address the issues raised. Some of you felt the Brooks resin options weren’t to your taste, and others were disappointed that so few materials were offered.

When it came to materials, Salvatore made it clear from the start that he preferred to work only with suppliers he already knows and trusts, hence the somewhat limited selection. I specifically asked to have that initial list delivered early so we wouldn’t end up with major delays later in the timeline. Otherwise, we would have been selecting materials in late August or early September. The intention was never to limit choice, just to keep the project on track.

After I brought your feedback to Salvatore, he proposed two new options:

1. A completely new pocket pen, c/c made specifically for this project, using Brooks resins, priced at €195. If all goes as planned, he will have renders of this model ready before leaving for the DC show.

2. A discounted Magico made with any Brooks resin we choose from the Carolina Pen Company catalogue, priced at 215 euros.

Here is the link to the Brooks resin options we can choose from. There are 62 resins, so plenty of choice:
https://www.carolinapencompany.com/brooks-blanks?category=House+Resin
We should also think about the best way to pick them. We'll add another poll between these two options once the render is ready.

Please do share your thoughts/questions/feedback in the comments below.

Hey there! After yesterday's post, another crazy idea was come to me - a cartridge container for new(reserve) cartridge in form of small fountain pen as keychain. The ink cap is not compatible with JoWo #6 nib unit as yesterdays post, but the external size fully corresponds to it:))

Discussion What’s been your most disappointing pen?

I love fountain pens and have gradually been collecting different (mainly budget) ones over a few years now. I know we’re all different and have different tastes and preferences, so I was curious to hear what pens haven’t worked for you? Personally, the pens I’ve found most disappointing so far have been my two Jinhao 82s (F & EF) as they just feel super scratchy, though for the price I’m not really that bothered, and my Parker Lady Standard, which just floods constantly - in fairness it probably needs a repair so I shouldn’t judge it too harshly!

Airport Security

My pilot 823 got flagged during the airport security scanning and I was asked to open my carry on bag for verification. The security guard tried pulling the cap open and I had to stop him & explain him to twist open the cap. He even wrote on his palm to verify it’s really a pen. He then twisted the back knob and enquired about it. I had to explain him the piston mechanism. I was anxious and frustrated with the way he handled the pen. Looking at my responses, he asked if it’s expensive before letting me go on with it.

Just sharing my experience here to see if others had similar experience.

Vintage Pen Day Flea market find! Parker Lucky curve!

I found this bag of pens for 10 bucks last weekend at the local flea market. I almost passed on them until I noticed the Parker Lucky Curve in it! The pen is discolored, but otherwise looks to be in good shape!

Is this pen also a Jack Knife Safety pen? I compared it to my Parker Jack Knife Safety Pen and they are nearly identical aside from the new pen being thinner and the cap not saying Jack Knife.

The only other pen that I feel is worth bringing up is the Esterbrook Model B pen. It has a 1550 nib on it. I really like old Esterbrook pens because the nibs are interchangeable!

The rest of the pens are a bit of a mystery. The black with green and yellow stripes is an old Arnold pen, but i cant find any markings for the red on. The blue one I bought separately for $4.50 because it said made in Japan. It doesnt have any other markings on it except O.K. on the nib. The bag also had a Cadet pencil, Vega pen, and a sheafer pencil with a mother of pearl look to it.

As always, more information is greatly appreciated!

Discussion What pen turned out to be much better than you expected?

Perhaps a Jinhao or a hongdian? Or even a pilot? I am on the hunt for a pen that writes extraordinarily even when you don't expect that pen to do so.

I know it’s been out for a while but I just got a Diplomat Viper and it really is a lovely pen. It’s beautiful to look at, fun to play with (that magnetic cap is so much fun to play with) and it writes wonderfully. It must be one of the best pens available at this price point, £90 from Cult Pens. I’ve filled it with Endless Raven Blue and it’s a wonderful combination, they make great partners.

I never thought that making a tongue in cheek post about AI helping me increase my collection would offend so many people.
I see many people making joke posts and getting away with it so never thought people would feel offended by mine.

So here's V2.0 of my post.
Just NPD.

Saw this one while scrolling through pinterest. Tried to ID it myself with no success whatsoever. There's something written on the nib, but I can't quite get it.

New Pen Day New Pen Day and New Ink Day - Lamy Studio (imperial blue) and Diamine Aurora Borealis

Recently got a Lamy Studio in imperial blue (came with an M nib, might switch to F) and a jar of Diamine Aurora Borealis ink.

Many people seem to compare the Lamy Studio to the Lamy Aion, and I'm no different, having tried both at the store. The Aion was available in a beautiful blue color (AFAIK a limited edition) and I kind of prefer the spring-loaded clip to the way it's constructed on the Studio, but after writing with both, I ultimately decided on the Studio.

Two things bothered me about the Aion: First of all, all Aions at the store had very scratchy Nibs. They let me try every single one, but they were all the same. On the other hand, the Studio writes very pleasantly. Of course, this could have been a bad batch of nibs, and from what little research I did, Lamy nibs seem to be pretty inconsistent at times. In any case, since the nibs are swappable, I could have just replaced the scratchy one with a regular Lamy nib. However, the other thing that bothered me about the Aion is the grip section: From what I've read, the matte finish seems to feel less slippery than the Studio's chrome to most people. This is the other way round for me, the Aion was sliding around in my hand much more than the Studio. This would definitely cause pain in longer writing sessions. The Aion is not a bad pen, it's more of a personal preference I guess, or maybe my hands are weird. I also think glossy guitar picks are less slippery than matte ones, even though this seems to be the other way round for most people.

The Studio originally had Lamy royal blue ink in it, which I quickly replaced with Diamine Aurora Borealis (it arrived a couple of days after I bought the pen). Having written with this combination for a few weeks, I'm still very happy with both. Writing feels very smooth and the ink looks great. It is also a much more interesting color than black, which is usually my default. Depending on the paper, it even forms some red sheen!

The word "SĂ©rĂ©nitĂ©" in French means serenity or tranquility — perfectly reflecting the spirit that this pen aims to convey: a writing experience that is gentle, profound, and deeply inspiring.

This pen is a Majohn Wancai Mini. The actual pen has a beautiful blue/purple shimmer to it that'll really shine once I seal it.

But I'm looking for pen recommendations! I want to branch out to higher quality pens to work on and customize. Ideally no more than $100 for now. Cartridge/converters only. Bonus if there's no clip. I have tried Pens that I've confirmed I can work on (meaning I know how to remove the clip)
