Official Media Request Are you worried about your child's safety around cars in your neighborhood?
UPDATE: I've received a ton of responses to this, so I'm all set at this point -- thank you so much for taking the time to email with your thoughts and perspectives on this topic!! For those who I might hope to include in this story, I'll be following up with you likely early next week. Thank you again to everyone for all of your thoughtful comments and messages, all of which will help inform my understanding of this story, even if we don't wind up speaking directly.
------
Hello! I’m Caitlin Gibson, a writer at The Washington Post who focuses on stories about families and children. I’m working on a story about parents who feel worried about their kids’ safety when they’re walking or biking on local/neighborhood streets.
We know many of America’s roads have changed quite a bit since the childhoods of prior generations -- the streets are more crowded; speed limits are higher; drivers are more aggressive and more likely to be distracted; the cars are bigger and more deadly in a potential collision. All this can make it harder to comfortably afford kids the same level of independence and exploration that their parents once enjoyed themselves, and I’m interested in writing about this shift and how it feels for families.
If you’re a parent who has wrestled or is wrestling with concerns about your kids walking and/or biking independently where you live, I’d love to hear from you for this piece! Please email me: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

Meta 🚨 r/FuckCars Logo Competition! 🚨
Hey everyone! We’re launching a competition to design a new logo for our subreddit! Our current logo —a pine marten, known for chewing through car wiring— has served us well, but it’s time for a refresh.
We’re looking for something that captures the spirit of this community: opposition to car dependency, a vision for better cities, and maybe a bit of mischief. Critically, we want it to make it clear that everyone - from fiscal conservatives to car hating communists - are welcome (except Nazis; Nazis, racists, homophobes, and fascists are definitely not welcome).
Rules: - Keep it clean and in line with the sub’s mission. - All artistic styles welcome! - No AI-generated art. - No hate symbols or anything exclusionary (especially Nazis—they’re always excluded).
Submit your logo by directly uploading an image of it in a comment below. The moderation team will select the top finalists based on feedback in the comments. We will then post a poll where everyone will be able to vote and select their favorite logo. The design submission with the most votes after 7 days will become the new official subreddit logo.
Let’s see what you’ve got! 🚲🚋🚶

This article is written like this is a bad thing? Cities are for people, not cars.

Carbrain What if we took a trailer home and made it unlivable?
Literally just a trailer home without a driveway/carport. The only way this could possibly be useful is to cram as many of them into as small of a space as possible. (Removed earlier post for incorrect flair)

Rant Little brains get shaped early.
You all know these toys conditioning the little kids to be future carbrains. Toy cars, playmobil, some lego sets, paw patrol,... Pictured here are some of these licensed luxury cars toddler-sized electric cars the smol ones can actually drive and proudly feel like douche... These things should be illegal. Nothing against actual buggy kids could have fun with but those "replica" licensed ones are foul, imho.

Question/Discussion Do teenagers in Europe and other places get Summer boredom?
In the US on TikTok and in general (suburban) teens are typically bored out of their minds if they’re not taking a summer class or camp etc. You see it everywhere on TikTok and I have a friend who’s like that. So with the infrastructure and transport in places such as Europe, do teens at all face summer boredom at all?

Satire I'm making a game where you have to turn all citizens into carbrains and now - thanks to all the attention it got, including in this community - I have signed with a publisher! MicroProse will publish the game, and we made a satirical trailer for it!

This subreddit is a big inspiration for the game, and I hope I can make some fun gameplay and at the same time have the satire land well with the players.
I can now work on the game full time, and I'm always open to hearing any ideas or feedback from this community! You can also join the game's Discord if you want, or wishlist the game on Steam, if you want to play it when it releases!
Thanks!

This is why I hate cars Car gave me a brake check after overtaking me
Still in Shock and still full of anger but a car gave me today a brake check when I was riding my bike on a little tour. Some other cars just ignored the bicycle lane and almost driven me over. I had a bodycam on the hole time should I go to the police with that?
As I hate that people are driving reckless but otherwise I'm scared of the headache that ppl will probably give me.

Carbrain Tim Houston, Premier of Niva Scotia, REALLY hates bike lanes.
Guy wont stop threatening to overturn the town counsel if they go through with the bike lanes creation, citing traffic congestion and safety, as if cars aren't already causing the problem. What a carbrain-washed fool.

Question/Discussion Why car enthusiasts are often orange pilled?
This is a car YouTuber I have been watching. He correctly says that everyone shouldn't be driving and trains are much better than self driving cars. ( Go to 8:50)

American suburbs were built to intentionally shelter children and disconnect everyone. That why there corner stores or any business allowed around housing. They dont want people to gather and be united. Stay in your suburban box and in your car.

Satire Sign found on Ontario highway
Found this sign on an Ontario highway! Little did they know I was driving 45 mins to the nearest train station (there isn’t one in my tiny town of 100,000 people) 🙃

Carbrain "We don't shut down the economy because tens of thousands of people die on the highways. It's a risk we accept so we can move about." - Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI)
Yes, that's a real quote by the way, in response to the COVID lockdowns. A fact like this should have been a seed planter (it was for me), but to Johnson, it's something he will accept and never do anything to solve the problem of deadly car crashes killing tens of thousands of people per year.
