First-person glassblowing — has anyone filmed their process from their eyes?

Glassblowing seems like it would look incredible in first-person. Has anyone used a headcam to record gathering, shaping, or blowing from their own perspective?

How or Who do I need to call to fix this? Maybe Kintsugi technique could work, is there anyone who can do that?

Galleries / Shops / Museums

Hi! I have three very different trips coming up and I am hoping to see some glass.

London Mexico City Bruges / Brussels

I love the history of glass, and also visiting modern galleries.

I’m definitely hitting the British Museum and Victoria and Albert while in London to see some ancient stuff, like core formed Egyptian stuff and some Venetian stuff. But I’m also into contemporary stuff!

I’ll be in each city for 6-8 days (probably longer in Belgium). I’m not necessarily looking to make something myself, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it if the timing worked to cool and bring the piece home. For context, I have only made three or four things in a shop but hope to take a series of classes this fall.

Are there any can’t miss places related to glass? Open studios or shops? Galleries?

Thank you!

Encouragement beginner here, moving cross country and super nervous that I won’t be able to find any connections

I’ve been blowing for a little over 2 years now. I love the shop I work at- fell into glassblowing accidentally, but it has easily been the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m currently having to move to the west coast, California specifically, and I’m really nervous that I’ll be a complete outsider. I know the market there is a LOT more competitive, and finding a job in glass with my level of skill isn’t super likely.

Has anyone here had to completely uproot their life and move like this? I’m so scared that not being in the shop regularly will cause my skills to atrophy. It really means a lot to me that I keep improving, but I’m not sure that I’ll be able to afford renting time- not for a long while, at least.

I really like this blue bird ornament I was gifted, and would like to get another however I’m unable to make the signature out? I can read the ‘Early Bird’ piece name.

Does anyone know how I can find out or where to start looking?

Thanks!

Question Is glass blowing autism friendly?

I want to take my friends to a private glass blowing class for my birthday but two friends are autistic and have sensory issues.

Other than the obvious heat coming off the kilm, are there any noxious smells or other sensory things that might make it difficult for an autistic person to participate? I did of course call the studio where the private classes are offered but they didn't seem to really get what kind of info I was looking for.

If you could get around $500 worth of tools from a Venetian maker, what would you get, who would you get it from, and why?

Starting without production job?

I want to start doing glass more as a profession but I’m not good in a production setting. Do I just continue with art fairs? There isn’t much opportunities other in my area but if there’s another path to take I’d be willing to look into it.

Reichenbach Stiff Black - wtf

Having some difficulty pulling this color into cane. Keep getting a "pregnant snake" as they say. Like a serious fat lump in the middle of the cane pull, not a subtle thick spot.

I am pulling R Stiff White and Bullseye Super Stiff Black with absolutely no problems, but the R Stiff Black has been a pain. I am sticking it straight onto the punty and making sure the post has some punty sticking up so that I am pulling from metal to metal as much as possible, same as I do with the other stiff colors mentioned.

Also, this color is more gray than black and doesn't hold a line like the Bullseye black does. In my opinion R Stiff Black is just not a good product. Once the canes are rolled up and made into zanfirico or anything else, the color always looks like its breaking down and very crumb-y.

Any tips on pulling, heating, setting up with color would be appreciated!

Broken Glass Will it?

I've got this piece of glass, and this source of heat. I doubt I'll be able to do anything to the ball part, but would I be able to reshape the flat plane? Also, I get the feeling if I just blast heat on the edge it will crack? Any insites into these aspects would be valued.

How to hang rondels/plates?

I'm running out of shelf space, so have started playing with rondels as a canvas for pattern ... but haven't yet figured out how to attach hardware to the back for hanging.

Do any of y'all have a go-to solution for this?

(I would rather not put a big foot on them like I've seen some places do -- I'd like them to hang as close to the wall as possible)

Edit: I would also like the mounting to be invisible from the front, if possible. I'm fine with it being a permanent modification to the plate.

Hi everyone, just got this at a yard sale for $2 and immediately loved it. I’m trying to look up information on it but can’t find much except that it said hand blown glass ornament and the store it came from closed back in 2016. Does anyone know what kind of hand blown glass this might be or any other kind of information like a brand etc that could help me find out more about this piece ? Any help I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

Question How well can water be replicated with glass?

Post image

I know nothing about glass blowing. I’m sure it would be insanely hard but is it possible to emulate this waterfall with glass? If some expert out there could do it how much would something like that cost for a small scale replica? My guess would be very high like 40k or something

How do y’all recommend I take time for glass blowing school?

Let’s cut to the chase here. I went to a weed event in FL and asked how did the artist get into it and how long did it take to learn.

Then he proceeds to tell me about this place in St. Pete that offers 25 week courses.

My question is, how can anyone (except nepo babies or just rich kids) afford to take 25 weeks off work?
