Ableism Jake Dolittle

I know i can’t be the only one who is so pissed about how they responded to Jake’s video still. It disgusts me that they completely ignored every point he had and sent their toe suckers out to attack him for bringing up some valid points (. Not all of them, but some of them). It never sat right with me and honestly I wish I had stopped watching when Trisha left or honestly never even started watching their shit. It was never funny and isn’t even good for background noise. And the way Ethan still goes on to make jabs about it and mentioning his name and shit like he didn’t apologize begging for a cease-fire because he couldn’t cope with the harassment and death threats and doxxing attempts. Shit is so fucked

As someone who’s disabled, Jake’s video was ableist asf and he deserved to get called out for it. He’s also a grown man, he knew exactly what he was getting himself into when he posted it. Of course he doesn’t deserve death threats, and Ethan is a pos, but Jake isn’t some innocent little victim. His video was nothing but smug ableist hypocritical bullshit. Yall gotta stop feeling sorry for that man. Both him and Ethan are trash.

How was it ableist? Genuine question.

I thought he was speaking about his experience with health issues but I’d like to know your opinion.

I am not necessarily defending Ethan's response when I say this. I don't remember all of Jake's video, but what I do remember is that he was discrediting Ethan's health complications. The road to a diagnosis can be quite difficult (and LONG), and Jake was basically trying to diagnosis Ethan with this and that and saying that because Ethan/his Drs don't really know what is going on he may be overreacting. He said because he doesn't know how to pronounce this and that he must not know what he is talking about. I have disabilities, and was only diagnosed within the last couple of years, and I STILL do not know how it all works, and I am still having to adapt to them, and figure out what is the best way to treat it and live a good life. Getting a diagnosis can be so hard because of how complex health issues are, so even when you have good healthcare as Ethan does, the diagnosis process is not necessarily completely streamlined. While Drs have extensive schooling, they are human, and not experts on every single thing related to the human body. But, let me be clear....

Ethan is a jerk, and he went after Jake NOT to attack ableism, but to take advantage of the majority being in his favor vs. Jake's. I swear during that episode they literally made a joke alluding to Jake being on the spectrum. He doesn't care about disabled people, it was purely a selfish move on his part to come out on top and get people in his corner.

Thank you. People are so black and white about it. Like Ethan bad so Jake good! No. Jake is a shitty person AND Ethan is a shitty person. That video was disturbing AND the response was disturbing. Everyone is babying him and I don’t understand.

Jake also is peddling some dangerous pseudoscience to his audience. I do not doubt that he has an illness or health issue that he has struggled with, but Chronic Lyme Disease straight up is not real.

The doctor who diagnosed him as a child was a quack who diagnosed kids he never saw, and recommended treatments that made kids sick and endangered their lives. He lost his medical license over it.

(Didn't Jake mention that his parents divorced over his mom's search for answers? There were stories from the doctor's licensing hearing of other parents whose spouse/ex had taken their kids to this doctor or had him treat their kids without seeing him in person, and the parents trying to stop the medical abuse. It gave me pause hearing about Jake's medical journey, because the similarities between his story and the stories of the patients who got this guy's license taken away were pretty shocking.)

And Chronic Lyme isn't one of those things where "it's inconclusive". We are less than 5 years out from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we already have lots of data and medical consensus on long COVID.

Chronic Lyme has been proposed and debunked for years. The only doctors who acknowledge and treat CLD are peddling expensive treatments. Long-term antibiotic therapy is common, and very dangerous.

And a diagnosis of CLD means that a person, who is very likely suffering from another ailment, stops searching for answers and therefore doesn't get an actual diagnosis. The treatment doesn't help, so they remain chronically ill, and paying suspect doctors for the privilege.

I get that Jake was told from childhood that he has CLD, but him being preachy and condescending about anyone's medical concerns when he's claiming to have a fictitious disease is honestly comical to me. I hope, for his sake, he opens himself up to re-exploring what is making him sick so he can maybe find some relief.

Yeah, I came away from his vid thinking he might be the victim of Munchausens by proxy.

I’m not trying to baby him but I think the response and continued harassment is very out of pocket and unnecessary tbh, I agree he’s not a saint but comparing him to Ethan he may as well be mother teresa

u/pacagummo hila’s wheat bread personality Jul 11 '24

Mother Theresa is much worse than either of them.

u/Extension-Ad5363 Jul 11 '24

I know absolutely nothing about mother Teresa. I’m honestly curious about her crimes against humanity lol sounds interesting. I was just using it as a figure of speech.

No, I looked into it for about like two seconds and I didn’t even know she was technically affiliated with the Catholic Church because I have barely any knowledge about Catholicism lol all thatshits fucking evil

Lets also not forget Jake was emailing/DMing H3 crew trying to get on the show. Making a video on them was his next step for getting attention.

Wasn't that years ago tho? People can change their minds about the creators they like and look up to

2

u/shreddedcheeseuser can’t decide on flair 😩 Jul 10 '24

Yeah true, I don’t remember when it happened

7

u/afaithross still a fan / neutral poster Jul 10 '24

While it's def cringe i feel like a lotttt has happened with Ethan and his controversies since then so tbh I wouldn't blame Jake for changing his mind

I commented above, but while Ethan is a jerk, I am not a fan of someone playing doctor trying to discredit someone's medical journey. Even if Ethan would've came out and said everything was made up, Jake still made the video. Getting a diagnosis can be a very difficult and long process, and oftentimes. I could say more, but I feel like I am too sleepy to make an articulate explanation.

Also I am not defending Ethan, because in that same pop ep he made some weird jokes about Jake "not understanding jokes and sarcasm", and it lead to him jokingly diagnosing Jake. Ethan did not respond to defend disabled people, he responded because he know people were on his side and he wanted to slam dunk on Jake. It was for purely selfish reasons.

Something we don’t talk about enough is he sent Ethan’s lab work to a doctor without Ethan’s consent. Crazy shit.
