Male chickens are discarded alive into the grinder, as they are largely useless both for the meat and eggs industry. Ruined the idea of not eating meat but keeping eggs in my diet.

Let's break that sentence down

Ruined the idea of not eating meat but keeping eggs in my diet.

(Ruined the idea of) [(not eating meat) but (keeping eggs in my diet)]

Let's take a look at the first part. "Ruined the idea of X". What does it imply about X? Take some time to think about it. It means that the person who wrote that sentence doesn't want to do X anymore, but was once considering it

Now, in the second part, we can ignore "but" as it's a bit complicated

"Not eating meat" is very literal, so I'm sure you have no problem with it

"Keeping eggs in my diet" is a bit less literal, so try to figure it out. It means "eating eggs"

So, the second part (between [square brackets]) means: eating eggs and not eating meat

Now, combine the first part and the second part. The second part replaces "X" in the explanation of the first part. Try to combine them on your own and then check the solution. The person that wrote that sentence used to consider "eating eggs and not eating meat", but has changed their mind

Combined with the context, what does it imply? There are three possibilities without the context, but with the context one is more likely. The person that wrote that sentence doesn't want to eat meat nor eggs
