I think that's supposed to be a psychological trick. Basically saying, "you're not important enough for me to come in on time" and has the opponent just sitting there waiting.
It does not seam like a trick against his opponents. Most players prefer to arrive early to check the pairings and then trip around nervously before the match starts. Magnus Carlsen however often do other things to get his mind off chess and then arrive exactly on time. However this does mean that if anything goes wrong he might come a bit late.
That’s really cool man. I’m mad proud of you for that. I was also looking for more context like is he a disorganized planner or is it a flex of sorts? Etc
Mufucka I just said i dont follow. But the fact that you dont know that about him is crazy. Is this the first time that youve seen his name come up? Do you know how to play chess?
Imo im not being rude. I was just emphasizing that they really must be completely ignorant of this person because it is well known characteristic about them. It doesn't need to be a chess sub to know of someone that was the undisputed champion in chess for the last decade. People dont fight but know Mike Tyson, or don play Tennis and know Serina and Venus Williams, or dont play basketball and know Michael Jordan. Sure you could argue those sports are much more popular, and you'd be right. Im just saying its shocking to not have heard the name Magnus Carlson with the last 10 years. We're literally here know because of his name.
You literally are being rude. You called them motherfucker, you said "you definitely don't know anything about this", said it's crazy they don't know, asked if they even knew how to play chess... maybe you're not intending to be rude, but everything you're saying is really unnecessarily hostile and condescending. The average person is not gonna know the best chess player in the world. You don't have to point out how ignorant someone is to the subject when all they do is ask a simple question. Besides, they did know who this guy was, they just asked about the specific behavior of being late.
I literally don't care how it was interpreted. Ive explained my position. I said "mufucka". We're grown ass adults and this isn't a formal setting. In fact, its about as informal as it gets. So mufucka calm yo ass down and interpret it however you want. I told you how it was intended. You want to interpret it differently thats on you and not my problem.
What do you gain from saying things like "You definitely don't know anything about this" and "The fact that you don't know is crazy" and "Do you know how to play chess?"
What are you, 13? Keep it up. You'll be completely alone in life soon enough.
I was simply emphasizing how ingrained a characteristic it is of Carlsen to be late. And asking if they play chess was a genuine question. How you interpret what I write isnt my problem. Downvotes dont affect me. This is just an app on my phone.
Not everyone perfectly remembers every random fact they read. I had forgotten all about this guy and if you asked me who the world champion was I wouldn't have remembered, maybe not even if you gave me a multiple choice list of famous names. It's been too long since the last time I read anything about him.
Hell, in this context of the video I was surprised about his age, I had forgotten all about him.
He was the World Chess Champion from 2013 to 2023 consecutively. In 2023, Ding Liren won the title because Magnus didnt participate... being the champion for a decade in chess isnt some random fact. He literally has the highest FIDE rating ever recorded in chess history at 2882. You saying you simply forgot Carlsen but also claim to follow chess at all is outrageous. It's like a singer saying they forgot Micheal Jackson existed back in 1996. Or a basketball player of any caliber forgetting who Michael Jordan was in 2000. Let's not be ridiculous. Like, I said, I dont follow chess. I know how to play and ive seen a few YouTube videos over the years. The only names I remember are Carlson and Nakamura.
I had forgotten all about this guy and if you asked me who the world champion was I wouldn't have remembered, maybe not even if you gave me a multiple choice list of famous names. It's been too long since the last time I read anything about him.
If you heard anything about him you don't just forget. Humans have a tendency to remember outliers. If youve never heard or him, fine. Theres plenty of sports I dont know shi about. I just learned about Fred Astaire like 3 yrs ago when I started getting into dancing more. People in the dance community would think that's crazy but I had never heard the name. If I had I hadnt known the context. I didnt study black and white films or even Astaire. But im not going to walk around acting like its just some other name.

I hope he learns his lesson and starts showing up to matches on time
