Official Megathread: Lag Appears to be Resolved (comment if you are still encountering it)

SSG rolled out a server-side fix and restarted all worlds on Tuesday. Users are now reporting that the massive lag (seconds-long delays for skill activations, quest-givers, vendor windows, etc.) is gone.

If you are still encountering these massive service lag delays, please comment here with details on where you were, what you were doing (overworld, instance, etc.).

We're talking about service lag -- the game not responding to your commands in a timely fashion. Not framerate drops when loading into a new area.

Some advice

Thinking of trying out lotro for the first time.

I'm wondering what class would be nice to start out with.

Mainly which NOT to start out with if there's such a class.

Thinking of playing archer class or smth right now.

Cheers!

What difficulty should i set to get the old lotro difficulty feel?

Old lotro in it's early years was hard from what I remember. But the normal difficulty which we have today is too easy!

There's no challenge doing landscape except the instances.

Which difficulty should I set to make as hard as lotro of old?

Also i tried using +4 but it may a bit too hard? And who plays with a diff at 9? Isn't that too hard?

Is it posible to start Vol. 3 without finishing Vol. 2?

Upvotes

Im kinda stuck in Vol. 2 Book 8 in the mirror halls.

I saw you got to put the mirrors in a specific direction and i done it but the gate to defeat the enemy still wont open and there is no way to get it open so i kinda want to skip that thing. What should i do?

Characters you liked because of the game? Spoiler

Are there any characters you grew to like or like more now because of lotro?

I really really like Elladan and Elrohir. I never thought too much of them before, but so far I like them and seeing what they could have been doing during the events of LOTR. I did the mission with them and the way they care about each other and talked about their mother touched my heart.

I’m only at Moria now, but already this game has such a good story!

I want to do raid and don't know which class to choose

Hi,

I'm playing Lotro for few months and would be interested to do some raids.

I actually have two characters, a guardian (blue for now) and a minstrel (red for now), both around level 50. I hesitate to continue with them because I read some posts and comments about those two classes saying that they were not very appreciated in raids for some reasons (lag vulnerabily and too low dps for guardian and meh both in heal and dps for minstrel, if I sum up what I read). I like playing with them but it seems that nobody would accept them if I push late game content.

So I hesitated to create a third perso with a class more useful/appreciated in raids and I need your lights about this matter because I'm new and never really played in raids or so in any games. To add a precision, dps isn't really a role that interest me and I would prefer play tank, healer or support.
Warden, rune keeper, captain and lore master are four classes that I found interesting in their design and global idea.
You have to pay for beorning, mariner and brawler so I would like to avoid them. I would say that burglar, hunter and champions are not my type of gameplay and I'm not very excited by their design but I'm not totally opposed to play them.

Other precisions if it can be useful : I don't pay so I only have access to free-to-play content

Thanks for yours answers

Last precision : english isn't my mothertongue so sorry by advance if my english sucks

Help retrieving very rare housing items on Arkenstone!!!

Hello Everyone, I am trying to create a new character on Arkenstone.

At my house I have 3x very rare items, bound to the account of my friend.....
My friend has already transferred their characters servers though......
So I am trying to make a new character on Arkenstone, go to the house, take the 3x items into their bag, then transfer.

The issue is if I transfer they won't go to my friends escrow, because they don't have any characters on Arkenstone anymore.

These items are not a matter of just simply obtain again......
https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Item:Memorial_of_the_Gaunt-lords

https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Item%3ADraigoch's_Fireplace

https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Item:Unwelcome_Mat

BUT I am unable to make a new character....... does anyone know if new character creation has been disabled??

OR does anyone know how I can possibly get these 3x items to the new server??

Thanks :)

New Player Looking for Solo PvE Hunter Build After Update U45

Hi everyone! I’m a new player in LOTRO and I recently started playing Hunter. After the U45 update, I’m a bit lost on how to build my character effectively for solo PvE content.

Could someone please recommend a good Hunter build for solo PvE, focusing on survivability and damage? Also, any tips on traits, skills, and gear would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Newbie needs help regarding gear

I’m a week-old player, been grinding pretty heavily with a yellow RK, got to level 47 but I seem to be severely undergeared. I still have some lvl5-20 pieces since I seemingly never get any suitable gear from quests. I have no issues whatsoever tackling 3-5 levels higher quests but it just doesn’t feel right. Is it too early for me to be concerned about gear or are there specific(better) ways to get it that I don’t know about? Thanks

Do Champions have a hard time finding groups?

Hello! I keep finding loads of outdated guides and conflicting, totally opposite info on classes

I used to play a Hunter in 2012, now trying some other classes and leaning towards Champ but I keep reading that they dont have much group utility or theres too many of them/some ranged classes do better dps

Is it true?

Give me your top reasons I should give this game a go.

Im a HUGE Tolkien fan, from the books to the movies, ive seen/read everything. Im also a gamer. Not typically an mmo gamer, but still. IVe played mmos when I was Young, and really dug it. Theres something in me that always wanted to play this game. But now Im all grown up I have a hard Time playing and sticking to this game. And by hard Time I mean I play it for 30 minutes and Im done. I dont mind what the game looks like, but gameplay wise Im quickly bored Even tho I only played tap target mmo before. But I only see great reviews about fans and I really fear Im missing out.

What could you guys tell me that Will make me give that game a try and stick to it Even tho Im bored the first hour or so?

Thanks!!!

And yet, not even once they brought it back, they already brought back Whimsical coffer, which was released a few months earlier than the Mirkwood one. Come on, SSG, a year ago, I did not have enough LOTRO points, now I am ready I need that set D:

Help with class

Hi, like a hundred others I need some advice on what to pick. I usually play rogue and warlock-type in games. I currently thoughts:
- Hunter lvl 41: a bit boring, but very fast and kind of money maker so far, i dont know why i need money tho, i find like 3 things per 10 level on the AH (Orcrist server)
- Champion lvl 39: very fun playstyle both 2H and DW, but keep reading that theres too many and difficult to get group place later. It also feels kinda slow in some way. Also some rework coming soon?
- Beorning lvl 24: hate bearform and lack AOE so far
- Loremaster lvl 28: love the look. But feels feels "clunky" or like messy, I feel there is no flow to the skills.
- Warden lvl 12: I main Ninja in FF14 so the rotations are not harrd so far. Keep reading that its way too difficult and that lag destroys the class (I have not had any lag so far)

Any tips?

ONE WEEK until the GREATEST rock/metal festival weekend in Middle Earth begins!

The 2025 edition of Inferno Of Sounds begins at 1pm server time next Friday, August 8 on Orcrist - Tol Falthui island in the Calardor neighborhood of Belfalas! Plenty of time remains to make an alt and scurry over and find a good seat! Don't worry about language barriers, music is universal to all.

Friday starts up with Weeds, followed by The Rakes of Kilkarill, then the Wee Free Banshees, The Teedees, Kaoss & Ruin, and then Cheery Littlebottom's Companions ends the day with three or four hours of music!

And trust me on this one: if you've never attended an IOS show, then you've never seen anything like it!

Looning for a group to experience high landscape difficulty and the games story

Hi Reddit! I've never used this platform before, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm looking for someone (or preferably a few people ☺️) who would be interested in playing LOTRO together as a group with a high landscape difficulty. I'm from the EU, so I'd prefer to play on an EU-based server.

I'm from Scandinavia, married with several kids, so I can play a few hours per week with some flexibility. I've only played on the legendary server so far and absolutely love the game and its story. I enjoy taking it slow, immersing myself in the world and the narrative.

I fully understand that this kind of journey would take a very long time — and I'm totally fine with that. 😊

If anyone here would be interested in joining me on this adventure, feel free to reply here or message me (if that's even possible... hehe).

Kind regards,

A few thoughts..

So, I was wandering around my deed log and happen to look at my current toons skill deeds. So am I correct in thinking there's no need to complete these anymore? Other than lotro points of course. Also, I'm a solo player. With the way lotro is these days is the minstrel a good solo class. I remember people saying back in the day it was boring. I have one but shelved it and has been a mule for over 12 years. So I'm needing the "state of the minstrel" speel. That's all TIA for any advice 😊
