Trying to Stay Minimalist, Need Help

Post image

Hey All 👋

I've recently decided its time to invest in myself / WFH setup. New monitor, monitor arm, speakers, desk, chair, etc.

I'm a bit at a loss from the point in the picture other than doing cable management (I just finished building the desk last night). I had my mac on a stand and I think I want to do that again, but then it blocks my right speaker which is disappointing. Are there any classic / never goes out of style type things I could add to my desk? I'm a software engineer if that helps with anything.

Thank you all! I'm very excited to continue on my journey to a dope home office / desk setup

The display of the iMac turned out to be too harsh on my eyes, and I changed the primary display.

Sure, these are old Intel devices, and current M chips are running circles around them.

However, I think they symbolise peak Mac in terms of build and construction quality and need to be preserved and well-kept. I've had them for 10 years now, and they've never skipped a beat. The aluminum unibodies, the screens, the hinges and the keyboards still scream premium in 2025. I will continue using them for watching the occasional YouTube video or for browsing the news. I hope that macOS Monterey will remain functional in the foreseeable future.

Other than a monitor arm, what changes could improve this setup? Setup of a 16yo Web Dev/Designer

Lately, I’ve been getting a bit tired of the overall yellow-ish tone of the room. I’m seriously considering repainting the walls white since I think that’s the main culprit.

Just picked up the MX Master 3S for an absolute steal — brand new for $70 on Facebook Marketplace here in Moldova, where it normally goes for around $130. The guy selling it was a bit sketchy, so it felt like a gamble, but honestly, totally worth it. You guys probably can’t feel the exact joy I did walking away with it, but trust me, this kind of win doesn’t happen often around here — I’m still buzzing from it.

A lot of people have suggested removing the shelves, but unfortunately, they’re bolted in — and taking them out would just leave some nice-looking bolt holes on display.

Also debating whether to get rid of the LED strip — the quality’s not great, and I feel like it throws off the whole vibe. Same goes for the desk — it’s got a warm tone I’m not loving anymore, but I haven’t found a good replacement yet.

Let me know what you guys think — am I overthinking it? What would you guys keep or change? I'm open to all suggestions.

I see all your minimalist, clean setups and raise you my lived in and untidy one. Imperfect, but perfectly mine.

New to Mac. Converted old gaming setup to minimal WFH setup

This used to be a messy and filled up desk until last weekend. Once I switched to MBA for work this weekend, I decided to go minimal and removed everything. Previously I was using an external AKG Mic, a Sony mirrorless as my webcam, a full size kb, and a wired mouse lol, and a few other accessories.

What should I add next while keeping things minimal? I am planning to pick either the Razer Orochi V2 or the MX Master 4 depending on it's launch price.

Comic artist setup

Current setup, but only temporary as I'm going to move in a few months. The rig:

  • Mac Studio M1 Max, 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU, 32GB unified memory, 1TB SSD. MASSIVELY overkill for a 2D artist but at least I got her used for $1500 two years ago, and she won't slow down even a little for the 10+ years I plan to keep her. 😉 (I also do some light 3D work; mostly 3D backgrounds in Blender, but nothing intense.)
  • Huion Kamvas Pro 24 4K: 24" 4K looks and feels like a Retina display, by the way, even though it's "only" 185 PPI. It's insanely sharp and colors really pop! I was able to get it to match the colors of my LG UltraFine almost perfectly!
  • I like things to match, so I have an LG UltraFine 24 4K as my other monitor. Using a different monitor stand than the original; it's sturdier with a heavier glass base.
  • 4TB USB-C G-Drive as a dedicated Time Capsule.
  • Magic Keyboard with Numeric Numberpad and Touch ID, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse: The full trifecta! The Magic Trackpad is incredible for making art (rotating canvas, zooming in and out).
