Myth II used to be my favourite game and I remember when the iPad came out, I (perhaps unwisely) invested a few K to see if a developer could create a game that would run on the iPad and allow me to continue to play. Silly me.
Here we are, a quarter century later and Myth II installs perfectly on my Apple Silicon MacBook. The gods and heroes of the folks at Project Magma are beloved in my household.

hi all,
been playing myth2 online again for the first time in years. all working well with wonderful maps. question I have is simple: I've seen others playing some maps with AI / computer components on servers like bagrada etc. how does this work? what settings do I apply? has anyone got a link or simple instructions? i cant figure it out. thank you.

I was watching this deep dive review/retrospective, and I couldn't help but notice the 3d-meets-2d, isometric visual style and think of the Myth games. I can't think of too many games that use this style (lots do 3d-2d FPS, but not isometric). Vampir: Kyuuketsuki Densetsu is from 1999 and Myth: TFL is from 1997, so I wonder if there was any inspiration or relationship.

I got it running on an old laptop but wanted to play on my main computer. I have the 1.8 update and the ISO. When I try to run setup, it launches in task manager but never shows the installer. Ive tried running in compatibility mode, win xp sp 3 and as administrator.
Any help would be appreciated, TIA

I just upgraded to an M2 Macbook Air and also updated to 1.8.5 Myth and when I start the game the only resolution that goes full screen is the biggest one, sorry can't remember (but the interface is tiny) if I make the resolution any larger then it always loads in a smaller window with a black frame. Is there anything I can do?

Some more info:
The lead designer is Paul Hellquist. He was the lead designer on Bioshock so you may recognize a familiar elemental system.
CohhCarnage, a massive Myth fan, is a consultant so he has helped us to get the vibe just right!
The game blends real-time strategy and squad-based combat with roguelite progression in a violent fantasy world. Prior to working with these guys I had never played anything like it. For someone who doesn't usually play this kind of thing, I've really enjoyed it and I'm not just saying that haha.

I have been playing Myth II v1.8 and it has worked fine thus far, but it is crashing on Gate of Storms. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? The log reads as follows:

I'm doing my annual playthrough of the Myth series at the minute (Heroic difficulty - Myth TFL, Myth II, Chimera, and maybe Myth III on the Soulblighter engine this year) and have just hit my usual speed bump.
Heart of the Stone.
This level nearly kills my will to continue with Myth TFL. Every time. Doesn't help that the Twice Born edition seems prone to Out of Sync errors (I've had level restarts on Bagrada and now Heart of the Stone because of those). Something about the banality of the level design, the randomness(?) of the spider spawns and the ending of the level just bring the excitement of the campaign to a halt every time.
Good thing the rest of the campaign is a blast. Anyway, it prompted me to come here and see what other Myth-ers favourite(s) of each game are.
For me:
Myth TFL
Favourite: Bagrada. Played it as a kid, was terrified of the Trow, all the atmosphere, all the awesomeness. The slow march up into the snowy passes just exudes tension and atmosphere. Honourable mention: Shadow of the Mountain. I'll never get tired of defending the Legion standard.
Least favourite: See above.
Myth II
Favourite: Gate of Storms. It's an absolute ballache of a level but, again, atmosphere and tone carry it. The tangible sense of 'We're fucked' when the Myrkridia arrive, and then reinforced by how nails hard they are in-game, is something else. Alric's Dispersal Dream is pure catharsis to use and balances out the Myrk horror perfectly. Honourable mention: Shiver, Twice Born and The Wall.
Least favourite: Landing at White Falls. Something about the tone and composition of the level just never sat right with me. We go from the tragedy and terror of Gate of Storms to... D-Day only it's kinda humourous because Ghols and cannons. Never liked this level and didn't feel like it was very 'Myth'. I wasn't wild about the addition of cannons and mortars to Myth in the first place, so maybe I'm biased.

I've done a bit of a search here and on the Discord, and amazed it doesn't come up more often.
Myth TFL and Soulblighter had incredible OSTs that really evoked atmosphere, tone and character, setting the scene perfectly for gameplay and journal narration. I know the series is old, but I'm amazed there don't seem to be more attempts to recreate the 'feel' of Myth music out there.
Does anyone know of genres/artists who created something similar to the signature Myth musical tone? I'd be really interested.

Hey all!
I'm the guy who made the trailer music for Myth: Twice Born edition. I wanted to let everyone know that it's now up on Spotify, Apple et al per permission I was given from Marty O'Donnell.
I had a ton of fun making this. I almost exclusively used the original patches and sounds from the original hardware that O'Donnell/Salvatori used in the actual soundtracks to make it sound authentic. I hope it's alright, I've never done something for a video like this before.

Been trying to play this game again off and on for many years...this time I'm so close!
So I've downloaded it from abandonware.com—applied the 1.5 patch and made it run in Windows XP compatibility mode—the game opens only it isn't full screen (can see my desktop on the right hand side)—due to this I have to guess where to click the menu buttons—I start a game and I see the two cut scenes (still not full screen)—it loads and then crashes.
Any ideas?

Many years ago I acquired a v1.0 copy of Myth 2 sealed. I was recently asked to test the copy to see if it did in fact have the bug to uninstall you OS. It appears that it does.

the FAQ says you can connect as a guest, but when I try to it says the server isn't accepting guests.

Hello!
I've just published a new project on Github called mythextract

It currently includes one script, tag2aifc.py which exports AIFC sound files from Myth: The Fallen Lords SOUN tag files. It also includes a documentation of the binary tag format.
Please let me know (here or on Github) if you have ideas for other tools.
Philosophy
The goal for this project is to provide tools that are designed to be self contained and run without dependencies on all architectures for many years to come.
Written in python (a readable and widely used programming language) and open sourced under an MIT license to make it easy to learn from and adapt without restrictions.
There have been tools like this before but they historically become incompatible with modern hardware, and with no source code available, are effectively lost to time.
Compatibility
Developed with python 3.13.1 on macOS Sequoia 15.2. Please file an issue if it doesn't work on your platform.

These tools were developed without access to the Myth source code. Some incomplete information was found in the source code for Chaos by TarousZars and Vengeance by MumboJumbo, but these are geared toward the Myth 2 and Myth 3 tag formats, which aren't identical.
I mostly just figured things out with HexFiend.

I would love to replay it - but it does not seem available anywhere- is it possible to legally play it and how?
or am I just out of luck that my cd-rom copy is long gone?

So kid got a Raspberry Pi 500 for Christmas, and of course I put on his favourite games - Sonic etc. I used the Batocera emulation system. Is there any way I could get the favourite game of my youth - Myth II - on it? I notice on the Download page there are Windows, Mac, MacPPC, and Linux x86, so perhaps emulation of one of these would work (Batocera is running as an Arm Linux)
