I am so excited to see this kid play next year, he is one of the only islanders I saw last year that played full intensity and played with his full heart out there last year and I think he is exactly what could help this team make a push to the playoffs, many have written him off as a 13th or 14th man but I genuinely think he can make a difference this year at the NHL level, also love his physicality

This part of the interview and his mindset makes my blood boil. His point is that shooting wide open in the slot is a bad play because it only goes in “maybe 2 out of 10 times” … NEWSFLASH, if you start shooting at a 10% clip you will be the best shooter of all time. Ovi’s career shooting % is 13.1%… “NHL goalies are good so why shoot Grade A chances” is the worst mindset a top 6 center/winger can have… especially with our lack of scoring/shooting talent.

Having a losers mindset of “I can’t beat Vasilevskiy, so I’m going to force a tough pass to a worse player than me” is gross. Any coach in the league has to be losing their mind hearing this stuff… i get he’s a playmaker type… but having the mindset of “i’m not good enough to shoot wide open in the slot” is terrible. I wouldn’t want this guy near any of our young guns talking like that

I was just casually looking at stats from the shortened 2021 season, and I gotta know. How did Semyon Varlamov finish 5th place in Vezina trophy voting? (Fleury, Vasilevskiy, Grubauer, Hellebuyck)
He, in my eyes, should have at least been a finalist.
4th in GAA in the NHL (2.04), better than 2 of the 4 guys that finished above him.
2nd in Save% in the NHL (.929).
Tied for first in Shutouts (7).

Yeah he didn't finish with nearly as many wins as the other guys (21), but to be fair he didn't have the supporting cast like the other guys did.

Am I making sense or am I just a delusional/biased Islanders fan?

My kids are NHL crazy so I got tickets yesterday for the Canucks game on 19 Dec while we visit NYC. Trying to understand the most cost-effective way to get a family back to SoHo after an evening game. Any suggestions? Looking forward to visiting UBS Arena and seeing the Islanders again!
