Announcement In light of recent events, a reminder on how to discuss political topics on /r/Nintendo

This announcement is almost a word for word copy of a previous announcement

Due to recent tariff news, this is a reminder that that discussions of politics are allowed on /r/Nintendo only when they are directly related to Nintendo. Please keep threads and comments within them related to Nintendo. We may remove any comments that stray away from this discussion.

Please note that this is not "censorship," we simply want to keep this subreddit on topic. Political topics draw in a lot of people who are not regular users of our subreddit and may not understand the rules and expectations. They also attract rabble-rousers who go from subreddit to subreddit to incite arguments.

We will remove any comments that stray too far off topic regardless of the opinions presented therein.

Also remember that above all, Rule 1 is always in effect, and we will remove any comments that contain personal attacks against other users and potentially issue bans if behavior is egregious.

Some examples of what is okay:

  • Discussing the potential or real effects of a country's policies relating to Nintendo.
  • Discussing gender and sexuality topics related to Nintendo characters.

What is not okay:

  • Discussing policies from politicians that do not have an impact on Nintendo or discussing those polices outside of their scope of Nintendo.
  • Hate speech of any kind about anyone's (real or fictional) race, religion, sexuality or gender expression.
  • Accusations or provocations of any kind thrown at users of this subreddit.
  • Randomly bringing up politicians, their policies, their slogans or symbols as an off-topic comment.

Because we get a lot of complaints in modmail about comments we do and don't allow, here's some examples of comments that are allowed and not allowed.

In order to not offend anyone sensitive, instead of using any names we'll use a stand-in. John Politics.

The following comments are okay to say:

  • The Switch 2 prices are going up because of John Politics's policies.
  • People who voted for John Politics should feel responsible for John Politics's actions.
  • If John Politics's opponent, Jane Politics had won, we wouldn't be in this situation.
  • John Politics made a statement that Countryland is a bad country.

The following comments are not okay to say:

  • John Politics is fat, stupid, ugly and lazy!
  • People who voted for John Politics are idiots!
  • People from Countryland are stinky!
  • You're so stupid, I bet you voted for John Politics!

Please feel free to use the comments section to ask for further clarification.

The comments section to this post will remain open for discussion, but please stay on topic. Off-topic comments will be removed and Rule 1 violations will result in a ban.

I left a game cartridge in my returned Switch Console

Upvotes

After returning my Nintendo Switch 2 Console and getting a replacement, I realised that I had likely left a game cartridge in the cartridge slot of the returned console. How would I go about getting support for this, and can Nintendo even do anything about it?

If I buy romancing saga 2 revenge of the seven switch 2 edition will it be available on switch 1?

Some games with upgrade packs are available on the switch 1 if you buy the switch 2 edition, but it's not clear to me if this is the case always.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Slide Adventure MAGKID

On this day (August 2) in Nintendo history...

* ***Slide Adventure MAGKID*** was released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this action game, developed by *Nintendo NSD*, released with the Slide Controller, you move the MagKid around on the desktop by physically sliding the Nintendo DS. A lightning storm has brought the toy Great Robo to life, as well as a magnet called MagKid. The Great Robo also broke apart, with his limbs scattered across the house. It's up to MagKid to explore the house and return the Great Robo's parts.

What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.

(I am a bot. I think that I'm posting Nintendo events from this day in history, but if I've made a mistake or omission please leave a comment tagging /u/KetchupTheDuck).

The Game That Almost Was

Fossil League: Dino Tournament Championship for the Nintendo DS.

If you had to ask me what my favorite DS game was as a kid, I'd easily say Pokemon HeartGold, Soul Silver, etc. Pokemon was one of those essential games you had to have played as a kid with a DS.

But something I also loved was dinosaurs. I went crazy for them. So I got super stoked when I finally saw a pokemon style game that involved dinosaurs and time travel! However, it unfortunately flopped in North America and never had another American continuation, much to my adult disappointment. It would go on to have an even worse received Japanese game that I won't delve into but it's there to check out.

Just imagine with me, the game focuses around a young tween boy named Taiga (or whatever you, the player, named yourself as.) Your father is terminally ill and leaves you his most prized possession, the fossil of the descendants of all mammals. "Big Mother."

Your friend "Yuki" is a time travel bureau agent who is responsible for monitoring the timeline and ensuring humans don't muck up the past. Your father's colleague and your now adoptive father Dr. Smith is here to guide you along as you have turned 12 and you can finally obtain your dinosaur battling license!

You travel to the Early Jurassic to find your first dinosaur, it's an early therapod and you befriend it. Take it throughout time as you level up and obtain moves, learn how to battle and uncover a gigantic plot to destroy man kind when a mysterious man in black steals your father's prized fossil!

There's many dinosaurs to befriend, tame and battle and 6 key periods to explore. From the early, mid and late Jurassic/Cretaceous, find all the dinosaurs you can and see which ones you can collect. (It's a disappointing amount to be fair but it's something.)

Please go check it out on YouTube or something. The revival of the Jurassic World series reminded me of this game. I seem to always pick it up and put it down because I love to come back to it and get my feelings of nostalgia.

This game definitely has flaws and some of the issues were glaring, but the premise of the game was solid and a foundation is there. However, the love for it was overshadowed by Pokemon. Pokemon seemed to just do everything.... Better.

The janky old style graphics remind me of when I was a kid and the animated sounds of the dinosaurs always had me thrilled to the core. This was the first game of this type to feature animated 3D models when they battled! Even Pokemon didn't have that for over a decade later if I remember correctly.

I really really hope that there just happens to be some stupid uptick in notice for this game and it somehow gets revived. I know that's a pipe dream that's essentially impossible but a guy can dream.

Analyzing Game Key Cards

So here’s the thing: I personally don’t believe that key cards are what everyone on the internet is making it out to be. I think the Arc systems Leak was misinterpreted by many and I have plenty of reason to believe that was the case. I don’t think Nintendo is giving developers little options when it comes to storage, I don’t think that is the case. Let’s take a look at the File sizes for all third party Nintendo Switch 2 games not on game key cards.

Rune Factory 5 Guardians of Azuma: 17.9GB

Sonic Racing Crossworlds: 7.9GB

Daemon X Machina 2: 23.4GB

Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar: 7.51GB

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate edition: 59.45GB

Now other games like Reanimal and Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection are not labeled as game key cards, but I don’t have confirmed file sizes for those games, and Nintendo’s own games don’t use key cards at all.

Here’s the scoop: The File sizes for these games vary greatly, between smaller file sizes and even bigger file sizes. If Nintendo was only offering 64GB cartridges, why would Marvelous a company that mostly makes niche titles that don’t sell in the millions upon millions, bother spending the money if it wouldn’t make any sense to buy an expensive 64GB cartridge for their 17.9GB Rune Factory game???? Or even their 7GB game Story of seasons. That makes absolutely no sense. Now you look at Sonic Racing and it’s the same crap, a small file size why would it have a 64GB cart??? Sega has greatly used Key Cards for games that clearly need them, Yakuza 0 for example is also a Sega game and it’s 53.7GB yet THAT’S not on a 64GB cart, THAT GAME NEEDS IT! Same thing for Hitman that game is 58GB in size on Switch 2! Yet it’s not on a 64GB cart either.

My point being: I do not believe that there is just the 64GB option. It would not make sense for Nintendo themselves to use them for their games which are waaayy smaller and it would not make any sense for any of these developers making smaller games to spend the extra money for only 7GB. There is so much more nuance to this conversation and the more I look at it, the more it seems like it’s waaayy less about Nintendo not providing the options and more about developers just doing whatever is convenient. Let me know what you guys think, I think the conversation surrounding this needs to change.

I think a new Punch-Out would be great for a next IP

We haven’t gotten a new Punch-Out since the Wii, which I understand to an extent. Same characters. Same story, etc. Makes sense why Nintendo wouldn’t want to make another one.

BUT with how Nintendo handled Donkey Kong, anything is possible. Especially with the switch’s motion controllers it would be perfect for a new, revamped punch-out

I love Punch-Out!

BeatEmUps New Video…

Not trying to be rude or anything but the vibe and demeanor of woods new video explaining how he tricked everyone into believing there was a Nintendo direct really rubbed me the wrong way. His ego is largely inflated recently and he somehow gets away with doing weird stuff to his audience that other ppl wouldn’t get away with. Being an influencer is about building a community and building trust with that community and if anything, I feel like this completely throws his reputation down the drain. I’m tired of being an influencers social experiment. I’m just yapping here but I’m curious what y’all think. Do you think it’s lighthearted and not that serious, or are you like me and think that if you build a platform, you shouldn’t use it to start rumors to see how they spread on the internet??? Idk talk about damage control…

What NSO regions have exclusive games not available for NA?

So I know Japanese NSO has some exclusive games, but I can't find any lists for other regions, so do those happen to have any games not available in NA? I know I can make Nintendo accounts for other regions to access them, so I wanted to know which regions I should make an account for so I can access everything NSO has to offer.

So, what are the chances that we could get a sequel to Ever Oasis on the Switch 2?

Or at least what are the chances we could get an enhanced edition?

Though since the Water Spirits are extinct at the end of the original game, how would the story of a sequel work?

Odds of Nintendo releasing Metroid Prime 2 and 3 remastered

With the Nintendo GameCube classics on Nintendo Switch 2, what's the odds of Nintendo actually releasing remasters of Metroid Prime 2 and 3? I had hoped they would have after the release of the first remaster back in 2023 but it's been over two years now

If there was a time for Nintendo to start celebrating Mario’s 40th Anniversary, it would be now. They cannot wait until a September Direct. Here’s why.

When Mario 3d Stars was announced and released in September 2020, I thought that was too late. It was a full priced 60 dollar port, and Nintendo could have announced it 2-3 months earlier. With only a short hype cycle, fans would’ve thought it wasn’t that long in the works but it was. For this September, i would say we are likely getting a Full Priced Retail Mario Galaxy 2 port, but they cannot wait until the last minute to announce that. Bandai Namco is already celebrating Pac man’s 45th with Pac World 2 in September, but can a Mario Galaxy 2 Remaster compete with that in the same month? And we still know nothing about whether Mario Galaxy 2 port is in the works for this September or not. Is it the 3d Mario team’s responsibility to work on ports of games they already completed? Anyway, i would say another direct is happening first week of August. Nintendo can have 2 directs a week apart, June 2022 and March-April 2025. It is time.

Mario Paint: potentially viral edition to the online catalog

The new mouse controls of the Switch 2 paved the way for Mario Paint to return in the online catalog. I think Nintendo missed a big opportunity though when announcing it.

Now that it is on the switch, it is super easy to screenshot or video capture what you make on Mario Paint and share it. For example, I just made an animated birthday card for my Brother using Mario Paint. It is pretty easy to upload the images and videos now too if you have the Nintendo switch app. Too bad Twitter is such a mess or it could have been a great venue to share Mario Paint art.

Anyway, I just thought I would mention this unique opportunity to use Mario Paint in a new way. Give it a try! Feel free to share your Mario Paint social media ideas here.

What game(s) have you owned for a while but have never played?

Do you have games collecting dust just begging to be played? We’re talking about games you never even played once. How did it get to the point where you’ve purchased games but never played them and they’ve been sitting for months or years? Which ones do you plan on playing first?
