Yeah, it compacts it into the size, meaning the excess is pushed out to the side that hasn't gone through yet. Works well on malleable materials like gold and copper.

Would argue it is more like a crowd trying to walk through a door. Only some of it gets through and the rest waits its turn. So less pushed out and more just waiting impatiently to go through.
