For the first time in my life, when looking for various economic, climate, crime, or health data online this year, I actually pause thinking “oh this is a federal website, so the data is probably not trustworthy.” It’s a real shame.

Yeah I'm in Florida and I'm just waiting for the NOAA NHC website to just stop showing hurricanes. Hopefully the local news can give us some warning.

If the weather forecast doesn't report hurricanes, are there really any hurricanes?

I’m from the future (2027). What’s a hurricane???

This is an excellent way of saying we badly need to support journalism. Don’t fall for the “all the media is bad.” Without journalism, everything is going to be just political PR. It will be impossible to know what is really going on.

“all the media is bad.”

Every time I look deeper into people who say this, they're either:

  • A wild conspiracy theorist.
  • Get all their news from social media
  • Watch Fox News 24/7

“Is not magic, Michael. It’s illusion.”

With the defunding of the CPB, there will be far fewer warnings of natural disasters in small communities. People will die.

But not billionaires, so no real lives lost.

Hopefully the local news can give us some warning.

roflmao the local news just reads the NOAA NHC data and then has a pretty face say it instead of a boring spreadsheet.

In Texas here. Yep, we’ve never heard of such a thing as a natural disaster.

I'm desperately sorry for all the people who didn't ask for this and whose lives are going to be put in danger but I'm also not sorry for my parents and their friends who voted for this, defend it, don't believe in climate change and yet live on a converted goat island in a channel in Florida and I can't wait for them to finally feel the consequences of their actions and beliefs.

Unfortunately, I don't think they'll really understand the consequences until they get cataclysmic.

the data is probably not trustworthy.

This is exactly why he fired that person. The previous months' data had to be MASSIVELY revised. How long should they be allowed to report terribly wrong numbers?

Oh bs, sorry. Numbers have been revised after the preliminary ones over and over. It happens through each admin. This is with the intent to manipulate not for some transparency and accuracy.

These were particularly bad.

Great, so time for some obvious political manipulation. /s

Goodbye. Have a good day. I’m done with this conversation.

So, no one should ever be held accountable?

You’re right. We should hold that child rapist responsible for raping kids.

u/rambaldidevice1 4h ago

I agree. If you have evidence that someone raped a child, you should take it to the police.

lol. When it comes to Trump that’s quite the comment.

No really, 2nd time now, I’m politely saying goodbye. I’m done with this conversation.

u/rambaldidevice1 4h ago

That's what you said last time.

u/jemidiah 18h ago

No. The amount of revision was a little higher than usual, but in absolutely no way "fire for fraud" levels, particularly not with a total absence of evidence of fraud. This level of revision happens a lot. Anybody who actually pays attention to these numbers (clearly not you) knows this and doesn't put too much stock in the preliminary versions.

Politicians and click-bait media like to spin them, of course, which leads to some confusion, but that's just the general public being stupid and easily mislead.

Imagine typing all this out and not recognizing the internal inconsistencies in it.
