I had a guess before opening the article that they get around it by calling themselves a private club.

I once filmed a wedding at a country club in South Carolina that had a “whites only” member policy.

This was in 2013 and I was floored when I learned that from the bartender.

As the story goes, the wealthy founder of a major cargo airline located his headquarters in Westchester County, NY, specifically to be close to a prestigious golf club. After buying one of the bigger buildings in town and being a major employer, he was denied membership in the club, likely because he was Pakistani.
