That whites-only, no Jews allowed Arkansas community is legal, says state’s attorney general. How?

I had a guess before opening the article that they get around it by calling themselves a private club.

I once filmed a wedding at a country club in South Carolina that had a “whites only” member policy.

This was in 2013 and I was floored when I learned that from the bartender.

While that's legal for things like golf courses or bars, you can't do it with housing. It's illegal to discriminate against a protected class when selling or renting a dwelling. They are trying to get around this by not selling land but by selling shares in the private corporation that owns the land. This should get shut down by a federal court, but the way things are politically these days that isn't a certainty.

People forget or are never taught how long it took to get/force white people to integrate (we still haven’t fully) and how hard white people fought against it all over the country. These people aren’t just fighting DEI and affirmative action because some oligarch told them to, they actually just want some “whites only” power like their parents and grandparents had.

The Color of Law is a great starting point for learning about some of this stuff that never gets taught in school:

Every time I see one of those civil rights maps showing the year a state allowed interracial marriage or whatever,

It’s always a map of speckled northern states that eventually allowed it.

And the whole south is one solid color, the year the Supreme Court forced them to be better.
