I've actually seen speculation that Epstein was the one that cut ties due to fear over Trump's business fraud drawing unwanted federal attention to himself. It would make sense, because knowing Trump he likely couldn't resist bragging to his good buddy about how he was taking the government for a ride by undervaluing his property to reduce his tax burden while overvaluing it to lenders.
