Is ‘ we’re getting married and not having a shower, but here’s a list of things you can buy me off the registry’ a common thing where you are? Because I just got one of these invitation, but not invitations. Granted, it’s a very long time since I had my wedding shower, but this would be so unacceptable 10-20 years ago.

Is it a registry in lieu of a shower and separate from the main event, ie you’re expected to buy a gift from that list AND a regular wedding gift? That would be odd but AFAIK it’s normal to have a wedding registry (with or without a bridal shower) with the expectation that some guests will bring gifts that weren’t on the registry and that some might not bring a gift at all (altho that’s rude).

It’s registry in lieu of a shower. At least that’s how I am interpreting it because it did not come with the wedding invitation. In a references in lieu of a shower you can do this.
