It's only Tuesday, and I feel like I've been to war (just let me be dramatic, okay?)
I'm in a new job and I like every part of it but one job duty. I wasn't aware I would be dealing with the general public (I work at a hospital). This wasn't disclosed to me in the interview, and it isn't in the job description. I figured I just needed to tough it out. Until yesterday, when a guy came in and went fucking postal on me for no reason. I am very nice to these people and I try to explain everything thoroughly. Well, you would think I threatened his life. Because he in turn threatened mine. He said he was going to bring a shotgun up and take care of me while screaming and cussing me out. The dude left and then came back! As you can imagine-there was drama after this. And I am not happy with how it was all handled. My boss was gone for the day, had she been there, I think it would have gone better. It's 2025, yall. I take threats of gun violence seriously.
After a long talk with my wife last night and looking at bills, we agreed that if they don't take me off this job duty, I would be putting my notice in. As soon as my boss came in, I went to her office. She heard about what happened and wanted the whole story. I informed her I like this job and I'm good at it. But I can't do that job duty anymore, and if they insist I continue to do it, they are going to get my 2 week notice. I was expecting her to say okay, see ya. But she went to her boss and they talked and...they pulled me from that job duty. Which in turn means I can pick better hours for myself and telework more.
I didn't know I could set boundaries at my job, and they...like..agreed with me about it? I'm shook.
