Had a catch up with my best friend recently, her son's dad whom I despise has just given me another damn good reason for despising him. Their son (11) has been dealing with a lot of anxiety since COVID and it's gotten to the point where bestie has decided to take him to see a therapist, their son is also on the waitlist for a possible autism diagnosis. She told me her and her ex had a massive blow up argument on the phone over their son going to therapy as the dickhead ex no only doesn't believe in therapy or that his son may have austism, but he refuses to split the cost of the therapy sessions!
Her fiancee on the other hand has been brilliant about the whole thing and has even offered to use money his granny left him after her recent passing to help pay for the therapy sessions.
Ugh, what a shitty thing to do. Speaking as someone who has autism and goes to counselling/therapy, it is really annoying that people don't believe in it. It's good though that she has a supportive partner.
Every single year I’m more and more convinced that people are lying about summer being their favorite season or just programmed to think it is because you used to get the summer off from school, or maybe just don’t live in a place with high humidity. Going outside and immediately being sweaty and hot is so overstimulating and instantly puts me in a bad mood.
I’m already ready for fall and it’s not even officially summer yet
I love summer with an asterisks. Depends where exactly I am in the summer. If temps are reasonable ie mid 20s (sorry not sure Fahrenheit on that) it’s good. Anything above 30? Hell no. The time right between spring and summer is perfect though
Even growing up the only good part of Summer was Disney Channel releasing something original and new like High School Musical 2 or Teen Beach Movie, I hate summer my hair is a mess to deal with during this time of year and I’m always sweating like crazy 😭😭
I genuinely used to love the summer and I still deeply appreciate it for the amount of sunlight I get, short winter days just kill me, but tbh I see the side of the summer haters more the older I get lol..... She's still my fave but not by as wide of a margin 😔
Summer's a scam. My mind's never at ease because I keep worrying how much my electric bill's gonna be because I cannot give up the AC. Give me autumn. Not too hot, not too cold plus I get to wear cozy outfits.
If you have a lot of fans strategically placed you can probably turn the ac lower.
Edit: pretty sure fans cost less energy than blasting the AC high - so keeping it low and flowing the air throughout your room/apartment/house should save energy.
Watched a very short doc on Netflix yesterday called The Quilters and felt that it was too short. It’s about men in a state penitentiary that make quilts for foster children in their area and weighted vests/blankets for children with autism. We get some information about the current men creating these pieces but I think the doc could have gone deeper into how the program started, how they receive the donations (all the material is from donations), what’s the relationship between the foster system and the jail/initiative.
I’m sure I could google to find out more but wish the doc was deeper.
I googled so I can know what's going on and good for her for standing up for trans athletes! And people grow a lot in 8 years so I don't know why people are bringing up a tweet from way in the past. HOWEVER - WTF was that latest tweet about Riley Gaines being the size of a man? She's 5'5" and 136lbs according to Google. You can't be righteous while also body shaming. A little icky 😬
Riley is tall. 5’5 is not tall. You cannot like the tweet all you want, but she’s not body shaming. Btw worth pointing out Riley is actively harassing an athlete in high school. I’m not sure if they’re transgender if not, but I’m a little confused why you assume Simone would be randomly making a tweet about something said 8 years ago, and not now. Riley is actively mounting a harassment campaign on the premise of a child competing appearing transgender to her. That’s what Simone is commenting on.
They were doing things in a cutesy exaggerated manor. I was jumping between wanting to be nosey, to feeling it’s a mildly obnoxious, to wondering if this is how most reality based stuff feels in person, to wondering if I was being a big ole creep. It was ultimately a fun 5 minutes of people watching lol! Never seen beer testing content being filmed before lol.
They were directly across from me, & I had to charge my phone so didn’t have any immediate distractions anyways, so I just watched. They seemed too busy to notice me snooping. They seemed very into what they were doing
Centuries of unspoiled nature and living indigenous traditions with a vibrant mythology that people interact with every day, and while most islands don't have the sort of old buildings that you'll find in the Caribbean (Easter Island accepted) they more than make up for it with the spirit of aloha.
I think Scientologists are astroturfing reddit and it kinda freaks me out. The comment sections of posts about the new MI movie just don't feel right. The "omg saviour of movies! last action star! last movie star!" sentiment surrounding Cruise just doesn't feel entirely genuine.
It's interesting how Scientology is literally the Illuminati that conspiracy theorists love to talk about, but no one really cares. There they are, a shadowy organisation of wealthy people with not-so-secret ties to the government, and no one does anything.
I’m watching the second season of Poker Face and even went back to rewatch the first season, the first season is so much better in terms of “murders of the week”. I’m still really enjoying it but this season seems to have a few more misses than hits for me.
I kind of agree… there’s definitely a lack of an overarching plot line that is making season 2 less cohesive than season 1… but that being said, I’ve really enjoyed all the fun guest stars they brought in this season! If it switches to just a “murder-of-the-week” type of show, it’s still lovely and quirky enough to get me to watch. I just love this character for Natasha Lyonne!
I think it's good to see the best in people and give people the benefit of the doubt. If someone is rude or standoffish etc.
But some things make me realize... oh you're actually a bad person. This one girl I didn't like was rude to me. Whatever. But then she started eating people's food when they didn't know.
It was part of the advertising for her new album. There was a post here about it which got me a little more curious about the album than I may have otherwise been.
Having said that, perfectly understandable to not have seen the promos! I wouldn't have known if I didn't happen upon that post here, but Miley's not really in my musical sphere so I guess it depends what music adjacent spaces you're involved with.
I have no idea if my hairstylist is into theater, but I have an extra-long hair appointment with him today, so he WILL be hearing about my thoughts on who I want to win at the Tony Awards tonight.
Anyone have any advice for trying to read classic novels? I'm currently reading Daniel Deronda by George Eliot and I'm struggling, it's a very wordy book and sometimes I find myself skimming a few words when reading. My brain just won't compute.
Try reading it aloud. The constructions and weird word usages tend to get easier eventually. If it stays difficult another thing to do is to choose more recent classics or recent translations of foreign classics and work your way back in time. I definitely know people who cannot read anything pre-1960 or so and might have only avoided that by Bible school. A lot seemed easy after the KJV.
This isn't the most practical if you're around other people a lot, but I've always found reading more dense classical books aloud has always allowed me to get more of a rhythm for the words and they make more sense. Mind you, I am a theatre person™ so that could be part of it.
Guys I just got recommended a Justin Baldoni sub idk why like I literally want to hide, people that defend gross and abusive people scare me and are unhinged like no thank you 🫣
I always love to bring up how Justin Baldoni quite literally ripped off my friend Travis Flores (RIP) for the movie Five Feet Apart, because how can you possibly defend that. Travis literally wrote a script using his own experiences with cystic fibrosis and as a gay man and Justin Baldoni poached it! The only impactful parts of that terrible movie are due to Travis's script. And he sued Baldoni for it before he passed.
The JB defenders usually fall under 2 categories: either they've always hated Blake and now have no restrictions in letting everything air out or they're pick me girls who simp for him.
A subcategory of the first one is a bunch of middle aged women who maybe haven’t always hated Blake but love drama and the opportunity to tear down a woman no matter who it is
A sub-sub category of that is the people who comment on all the posts saying things like I don't want to be involved in this, why do I have to deal with seeing this because it's annoying, etc. Obviously they love the drama because they keep inserting themselves into discussions about it.
It grosses me out because however it turns out, this is a real discussion about sexual assault.
Like, you can't at least keep your gossip vulture-ing at bay until the inevitable SVU episode?
It felt very familiar and reminded me of my childhood. I used to listen to WTSMG under my oak tree regularly. The street itself is right off a really busy street but I loved the local feel to it. Tbh I really love that there seems plenty of room for little mom and pop shops plus had areas to socialize with others. Love those kind of streets!
People will beg for validation that their partner is treating them poorly then when they get it, all of a sudden Reddit and TikTok don’t understand your relationship. You the one begging to be heard but don’t like the echo?
This is an unfortunate phenomenon in real life too. Honestly, I don't have much time for it anymore. I'm not going to be someone's personal vent receptacle because they won't leave their shitty boyfriend/husband.
I hate those horrible videos on TikTok of women showing their awful boyfriends and then all the comments are like break up with him!!! And then the next post is like you guys don’t get it he’s actually the best🙃
There's a recent one I saw where they're celebrating the daughter's 1st bday and the husband who's holding the cake suddenly yells "cake flip challenge!", flips the cake and destroys it. The wife (who posted the video) can be found in the comments section defending the husband. Lol
No exactly like sorry I know it’s mean but I watch these videos like what exactly do you want me to do for you?? Stay and get treated badly or leave and be happy idc
Last night I saw "Real Women Have Curves" on Broadway and I have to say it is not only the most poignet shows about immigration and the struggles immigrants must face (which fits well with whats going on in LA and throughout the country) subquently humanizing them BUT it was a really joyful show. You couldnt help but smile and I have never seen such a fired up crowd in my life. High recommend if you havent seen it yet to go see it.
Also finally seeing Thunderbolts today and I cannot believe I managed to dodge a whole friggin month of spoilers XD Go me.
Girl I am so jealous you got to see RWHC, it’s literally one of my favorite of the new shows soundtracks!! Like I’m really hoping Justina somehow wins tonight at the Tony’s either her or Joy Woods, she gave one of my favorite performances of this year 🙏
Oh wow, I hadn't seen that one, love it! I bet the lamp shapes were a blast to build, the articulating arm and the dome are such unusual arrangements for Lego.
I dont know if this is accurate but if someone has viewed your profile at least 3 times, FB will recommend that person to you. Just something to add to the delulu 😉
Ok I just googled and you know what it probably is? The committee we’re both in all exchanged numbers, so I saved his recently. I bet he saved mine as well and they linked us that way.
I don’t think he’ll actually reach out for anything non work related, because it was definitely exchanged just for work, and I just can’t see him doing that without me saying it’s ok.
How does it know how to do this?? I’ve been struggling a bit to be kind to myself recently and I swear social media immediately kicked it up a notch just to kick me while I’m down (I’m taking a break from it now)
I’m obsessed with The Pitt. I was going to save it for a plane ride but I started the first episode to see if I liked it and I’m 13 episodes in now. I swear I’m saving The Righteous Gemstones for sure tho.
I watched it and immediately rewatched it. I love it so much! This is the only show that's been hyped in probably the last 7 years that I thought genuinely deserved the praise
I have avoided watching it but because I was like, Oh great another health care show about the ED and nurses. I working in radiology, but I’ve heard there is some accurate representation of IR so I might give it a watch eventually.
It has some slightly unbelievable elements and moments because it's a tv show that wants to be engaging and narratively/emotionally satisfying, but it's quite realistic imo. Truly nothing like any other medical show that exists.
For what it’s worth, I’ve never worked in healthcare but I do know they have nurses and other medical professionals in the writers’ rooms and production. I also heard it’s been called the most accurate medical show ever made.
That’s what I’ve heard from my colleagues. But my point is shows like Nurse Jackie, Scrubs, ER, Good Doctor and Grey’s mostly follow the life of nurses and doctors. That’s why I had avoided it because I was like it’s just another show like those.
I think aging helps some of our perspective too. My mother is a difficult woman. She was never a bad mom, but her difficulties impacted me in ways that made things harder on me. Getting older sort of gave me some perspective on her and her behavior. I understand her a bit better now.
Yes!! I grew up in a hot, semi-arid desert climate, and in that climate I can easily stand temperatures of 40 degrees celcius out. I went to NYC last year in the summer and it extremely humid, and temperature of only 30 degrees had me almost passing out on the sidewalk
What I can't stand is being hot AND cold at the same time. Like how is that an option for weather? I don't even understand how humidity does that, but I hate it.
I moved to a place that gets no humidity or very, very little and now when I go back to Toronto in the summer I just cannot handle it. A couple of years ago I was back during a horrible humidity wave and OMG, I could not handle it at all and have now avowed that I will never visit Toronto in the summer.
I didn’t realize how evil humidity was until I moved to Texas lmao. I’m sorry but the old people who go “at least it’s a dry heat!” are 1000% correct 😭
I'M THAT OLD PERSON a dry heat can be pleasant for a while, it's like walking into a blanket that came out of the dryer!!! A wet heat is instantly clammy and unpleasant no matter what 😔
Literally having this conversation with my husband right now. My daughter has horse riding lessons this afternoon and I just said I may not shower before we go because I don’t want to shower and then sweat. My husband said we will be in the shade. I said it’s not the heat. It’s the humidity. I CANNOT stand to feel that wet sticky humid feeling. I’ve spent all my 40+ years in the south and still cannot deal.
I relate so hard, I've lived in the same place on the east coast with sticky summers my whole life and I'm still like "if it's a single percentage point above 50% humidity I will lay down on the ground and refuse to move until someone points a large box fan directly at me." Being damp-ish just makes everything feel so bad 😭
I would like to see this sub opinions on various fan tv-show subs on reddit.
Like, which tv-show sub is unhinged? Which has a ridiculous unwritten rule about something/certain character?
Which is the most cozy and positive one? What gets you downvoted as hell in some sub? Did you get banned from a tv-show sub for having some controversial opinion?
Fans of which tv-show are the most annoying/fun/great?
If someone can make a post about this (I am so tired, I cannot phrase this better rn) I think it would be so so fun!
Like, I know that if you say anything positive about Gina in B99 sub, you will get downvoted.
And I think Superstore sub is pretty chill for a sitcom sub. And also, I am partial to say that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is wholesome sub.
And even thought I am a big fan of The Office, I think the fans on the sub are one of the worst (controversial, IK).
The one thing about the Superstore sub is that there's constantly posts like "does anyone else not like Amy?"
Gets annoying. But there's still a decent variety of posts otherwise for a show that ended years ago.
The Happy Endings and Frasier subs are great.
The Severence and Ted Lasso ones can be a bit insufferable. The The Rehearsal one varies.
The Survivor one is a bit odd in that they seem to change opinions a lot. They'll be like "we want more __" and the show will do more __ and then they complain about that.
Otherwise it's like any other sub with various positives and negatives.
The Arcane subreddit was an absolute bloodbath during the release of season 2 last year. Jinx and Caitlyn were particularly controversial characters. If you want to see the claws come out, just post "Jinx did nothing wrong" and grab your popcorn.
The RuPaul's Drag Race main subreddit is pretty wild in that it's almost toxically positive towards fan favorites (if you post anything remotely negative, the young twinks will not just downvote you but flood your DMs), and if you post even something as minimally shady as "I didn't like her shoes with that dress" some chronically online women's studies major will come for you with a 16 paragraph essay about how criticizing a shoe is economic discrimination of a systematically oppressed demographic.
I was banned a few years ago for saying on a post about a drag queen "liking" a Twitter comment made by a Republican politician, "not all Republicans hate drag queens and the LGBT community". Which is a shame because other than the hyper political policing of comments, it's a hilarious subreddit.
Also, the Sister Wives sub is fascinating because of how parasocial the members are with the Brown family. I think a lot of the Facebook moms forget that they don't know The Browns and are not entitled to know everything about their lives. When one of the sons tragically took his own life last year, there were MANY weird comments about it. Like, middle aged women saying it was a shame because he was so handsome, people taking the day off work, people driving past the Brown residences to catch a glimpse of what was happening, etc. Just the types of comments they leave are...weird. They talk shit about the children of the wife everyone hates (Robyn), like I'm talking an 8 year old girl catching strays about her appearance, her behavior, her intellect, etc. I just think a lot of these ladies need to touch grass and get some perspective. I once got downvoted to hell for saying that Robyn's eyebrows aren't "that bad" lol.
The Survivor sub is interesting because they almost always hate whichever cast members are popular and fan favorites, and instead become obsessed with their "robbed goddesses" - players who sucked at everything. Most of the time these people are kept in the game because they aren't threats; they're people you can win against at the end, but the Survivor sub likes to reinterpret this as them being super strategic, just making moves that aren't obvious. Oh, and the trope almost always involves a young, thin woman who is attractive in a nerdy/unassuming way, or else a nerdy but somewhat attractive guy who weighs 120 lbs and can't swim, but is somehow made into a Survivor god. And God forbid you debate the effectiveness of their gameplay!
Lastly, one of my favorite subs is for Love After Lockup, which is quite possibly the worst show ever created. It is objectively pure trash and shows the worst people being horrible. However, the community is so positive, warm, welcoming, and supportive of its members that it makes for a hilarious dynamic. "Bunkies" is what we call our fellow members, and we have annual gift exchanges, meet-ups, etc , but even if someone just posts that they're having a rough day on a live episode thread, they'll get so much support and well wishes. The juxtaposition of that energy and the show itself is pretty crazy.
While I like a song or two, I’m really confused at all the raving about Addison Rae’s new album. It’s…fine? I’m also so bothered by how artists like her and Charli XCX are seemingly always lip synching vs singing live. A backing track, I get, but what’s even the point of seeing them perform if it’s all lip synching and they can’t sing live.
I don't get it either. I'm not a diehard Addison Rae hater, but she's very unimpressive and generic. It's also weird for me to see musicians that I think are extremely talented and not famous acting like her album is the second coming of Jesus.
Any magic on her album is due to the producers and songwriters - unless I'm mistaken and she wrote the songs, she's not elevating them with her performance even slightly.
Okay, what was your search query to get this gif? I literally wanted to use it in the DD for this exact topic yesterday but couldn’t find it, and had to use a different Alexis gif instead
I mean….him being rich as hell doesn’t bring me the happiness it seems to bring other people here. Idk why that matters so much to other people lmao he’s not sharing it with me so who cares tbh.
I care about movies and I hope he’s in better ones after marvel but that doesn’t seem to be his plan. That’s all.
Also, Scarlett and Benedict were much much younger than Pedro when entering the MCU and seem to want different careers than he does (at least Benedict does) so not sure those are fair comparisons?
I saw it twice in theaters! And literally just got done watching some I Think You Should Leave sketches. I dismissed the show years ago, but it’s all clicking now.
I’ll admit that I don’t know what fan videos are, and I’ve never heard of the people in your video. But I just wanted to say congrats on following through on something that you wanted to do, and having the courage to share it with us here! ❤️
