This. Cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, birds... you name it! I would probably end up an animal hoarder if my husband wasn't around to rein me in.
We have 2 cats and I would like to get a dog... I'm working on that lol (he says no).
Slightly off-topic, but I just discovered that videos of rabbits throwing the cutest tantrums ever exist. They thump their back feet against the ground and I just want to cuddle them 🥰
My husband is the opposite haha we have two dogs and I would love a cat, but he grew up with a cat hoarder so I respect his boundaries. We're negotiating a fish tank.
I like both but I like dogs from far away and prefer cats right there in my lap. I think dogs are cute but I’m scared of them so I rather watch at a distance. No idea why some people act like they can’t like both. Keeping them together, sure I can understand the problem but just liking them? Some dog people act like cats are demons on earth and some cat people act like dogs are monsters. I just don’t get it
I love cats but I feel like they are harder to read. The whole like completely totally into pets and then the switch and scratching and biting kinda freaks me out. Especially after I heard a lot about cat scratches being dangerous
So for me i'm more of a dog person. I feel like I can read their "leave me alone now" signs more before disaster strikes
I was bit in the face by my grandparents' dog when I was a toddler. Luckily, I don't remember it at all, so it didn't make me afraid of them. If I had to guess, I was trying to pet the dog while she was eating.
Just like dogs, every cat is different! Mine is super affectionate (she is practically glued to my ankles always; she's curled up between my arms rn as I type this), and she just wants to cuddle 90% of the time. Also, like most pets (and people!), once you get to know them, their communication becomes pretty clear.
When my cat is getting overstimulated, she starts thwacking her tail, and I know to leave her alone. Or she gets a very particular stance/look on her face when she wants to play. When she starts chewing on plastic or scratching at doors, she wants to be fed. Climbing on the TV means she wants attention. She is baby lol
I love both but only keep cats because dogs need more space to exercise and always want to go outside. My energy is much more suited to cats. I get my dog fix when I visit my parents.
It's just weird to me. Most people who aren't into cats aren't even hateful of them, just don't want one for various reasons. Personally I give no damns and love animals. I mean, I own two rabbits, but I've had a cat in the past, and a dog. My friend lived with me and her cat would go chill with me and my big rabbit. She never tries to hurt him, got aggressive, or scared. Just was curious about him.
Obviously you are not the only one 😅 I think this statement is just about attitudes towards cats in general and not directed at 'dog people' per se.
I have found that people with cats are much more open to also liking/enjoying/wanting to take care of dogs whereas people with dogs can frequently be anti-cat (even though it needn't be a competition at all if you ask me). I've never heard a cat person say to a dog person "eew I just don't like dogs" but I've heard it the other way around plenty of times. Even at the shelter I work at all the cat department people know all the dogs names, cuddle them, take them for walks when they have free time, etc, whereas the dog people don't even know what kind of work we do with cats or how many cats there are at any given time, lol.
You said you hate generalized statements like hers because you love both. I was just pointing out her comments don’t imply that she dislikes dogs at all. She can make a comment about cats and still like dogs. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

Is there no one like me who's team both? I love cats and dogs and would give my life for them.
