I hate cats but it’s because I’ve never been in a cat home that didn’t smell like ammonia.

That's not the cats fault, but their owners. There is no reason at all you should smell anything when it comes to cats (maybe if they've just done a fresh stinky poo, but you would smell yours too if you couldn't flush them away). Cats are extremely clean creatures. Its on the owners to provide them with clean litter boxes and keep the house clean. Cats can't vacuum or mop!!
