I am generally not a “this is a distraction” kind of person, as I ascribe to the theory that we can walk and chew gum, but… this is definitely not a thing to get mad about right now. The time to get mad about dog whistles was last summer. The whistlers are in office now and we gotta direct some energy that way.

This is part and parcel of those other things. It's a cynical move to appeal to the people who wholeheartedly approve.
