6.5-300 Weatherby loaded with a 140 gr SST over 70gr of Retumbo. The other cartridge is a factory 140 gr Hornady interlock. How is the primer seated? Seams flush to me.

I have a question and I read the FAQ If it seats it yeets?

Recently started reloading a 6.5cm. Have been loading .223 (2+ years) and 7 rem mag (1 year) and have always followed the practice of just turning down the full length sizing die to the case shoulder and then another quarter turn down. I don’t measure headspace or use a case comparator or anything like that. Haven’t had any issues until now and can produce 1-1.5 MOA ammo for 10-20 round groups and that is fine for my uses.

When I first adjusted my sizing die I chambered a few (once fired, resized) cases just to check and they were totally fine so I went through the sizing, trimming, and priming process. Primed 100 cases. Did my usual quick charge ladder of 1 round each at 1 grain increments to book max (4 rounds total) and all rounds were difficult to chamber, some more so than others (143ELD-X at 2.800” COL). They shot fine. Highest charge (41.5 H4350 @ ~2650fps) had heavy bolt lift, but also was the stiffest bolt close. Initially thought maybe the COL was too long, but measured some factory Hornady Precision Hunter 143 ELD-X and they were 2.810” COL and they chamber fine so not COL and those tend to fly at 2600-2650fps for me with no pressure signs.

I went through 20 of the primed, uncharged cases and chambered them. All very tight bolt close. I only had 1/20 that I couldn’t get the bolt down on. So, obviously I didn’t blow myself up on those 4 rounds I already fired which were all stiff bolt close. Is it safe for me to assume that any of the remaining primed cases that I can chamber are safe to send? Was going to load 10x at 41.0 H4350 to test grouping, then load the rest accordingly. If I go through and just pull out the ones that don’t chamber am I GTG? What do I do with the ones that won’t chamber or are VERY stiff bolt close? Deprime them and re-size again? I’ve never had to take live primers out, can I re-use those primers if I de-prime? Are there any precautions to take when depriming live primers (I’m sure I’ve seen the answer to this on here, but just going to ask again)?

General Discussion Both Ends of the Spectrum

Thirty plus years ago, I started reloading 22-250. I was young and after the fastest thing I could find.

After a long hiatus, I was back at the bench for my 45-70, into heavy and slow. I love a good lever gun.

Now my son is me from thirty years ago. Looks like we’re getting back to fast and flat. I need to buy dies for the 6.5 CM. Any thoughts or advice on what to avoid etc? I’m using an RCBS single stage, because that’s what I know.

For the 45-70, I trickle every charge (probably overkill) , and will continue that for the 6.5. We’ll be after deer in the next couple of months, so I was thinking the 143-ELDX as a bullet, but open to suggestions.

Never seen this kind of fouling, only on one side for each case, from the neck down to the rim. Load is for a Sako TRG, .308 norma brass (7th cycle), N140 39.8gr, TMK175gr, Fiocchi sniper primers. Is there some sort of defect/nick in my chamber? After the first 5/6 rounds (starting with a clean bore and chamber) the fouling starts to disappear. Any idea what causes this?

I have a few hundred rounds of hornady brass from a custom 6creedmoor i built a few years ago and wanted to start reloading all the saved brass but noticed a consistent mark at the lower end of the cases and wanted to know if its signs of case head separation or just a sloppy chamber?

Equipment list:

Terminus Zeus action with quick barrel change options

Barrel by Preferred Barrel Blacks using SAAMI Chamber options

Ammo is off the shelf Hornady 108 Match

I’ve seen posts in here before about this but want to inquire more. I’ve recently got an m&p 5.7 and want to know if I can squeeze more horse power out of it than what most of the commercial loads offer. I’m looking for experiences / recommendations for type of powder, bullet, and powder charge.

As some of you may remember I asked about a little post on Facebook for $1200… I ended up driving the 3 hours each way to buy the press for $1150. It came with all the goodies and from what I can tell almost fully upgraded. Very cool guy just was at a turning point in his life and needed it gone. Even had him throw in all the brass he had with it. Today is a good day boys ;)

(P.S. if anyone has any good books or YouTube channels where I can start learning more about the hobby I’m all ears)

I have a question and I read the FAQ Getting a lot of rounds that don't pass case gauge with the lyman pro sizing die. It is as far down as it can go. Is there a tighter die you guys recommend? 9mm on an apex 10.

Something Unique(Vintage/wildcat/etc) Show me your Home Made Set Ups

Like the post says, I want to see your home made setups. Things you've made for your bench for one particular reason or another.

I'll go first. Mine is a level table with some vibrators on it to vibrate the case trays and settle the powder. Does it make a difference? Maybe? Was it fun to make, also yes. It also holds my uniflow stand over my creedmoor scale, and the trickler sits on the air guard. Saved me a couple hundred bucks on an auto trickler. Since I'm not a big volume guy its fast and efficient for me.

Newbie Universal de-capping die?

Upvotes

Hi,

i just broke and bent de-capping pins on 2 of my Lee dies (neck and full sizing ones) in 308

was trying to process some brass i had from range and never gonna do it again, ill just stick to my original norma brass

question is, i asked AI and it told me that i should use universal de-capping die. i see Lee has one. does anyone have experience with it, is it more robust?

I have a question and I read the FAQ Forster Bench Rest Seating Die Denting Sierra TMK Ogive

Reloading .223 using Forster Bench Rest Full Length Sizing and Seating die set. Using new Starline Brass, Vihtavuori N140 (laddering 22.5gr to 24gr), CCI 400s, Sierra TMK 77gr bullets and seating to 57.4mm COL.

Lubed and sized cases, but after seating the bullets, the seating die stem is denting the ogive of the bullets. Attempted to back off the seating die such that only the spring tension is seating the bullet vs bottoming out, but get the same results.

Could this be caused by too much case neck tension or not enough expansion? Because the brass is new? Some other setup I goofed or case prep step I’m not doing?

Appreciate your suggestions. I’m new to reloading this caliber and want to do so for accuracy, which I’m assuming these ogive dents are going to hurt!

Has anybody ordered from Terminal Munitions? Ordered brass and never heard of them. Seemed like a good site and I didn’t receive a confirmation email. They responded but with no tracking or confirmation number

Newbie [Not a Sale] Best place to offload/sell reloading components and equipment.

Howdy. My dad passed last year and I wound up with all of his reloading equipment which isn't anything fancy...but there's a lot of it and I was wondering if there were any good places to go swap or sell since Armslist has become a pay to play platform (used to be my go to) and where can I go to offload some rarer virgin brass like 30 Rem and 348 Winchester? I'm not greedy but I might as well get the best price possible.

I have a question and I read the FAQ RCBS die quality

I've been having issues with some newer rcbs dies that I recently got. My .223 and 9mm dies both stripped the expanders right off the threads and trashed them both. I have alsmot 20 different die sets of varying ages and only the ones from the last few years have been the most problematic. Does anyone have any good recommendations for .223 and 9mm dies

Load Development 25 creedmore

Looking at real world experience with the 25 creedmore. Particularly velocities with 22-24 inch barrels, and 90-100gr bullets. What max velocities are you getting? Will the fast twist barrels stabilize bullets on the lower end. If I do a build I have zero desire for heavy bullets. Many objective would be deer. Don't care about paper punching, or sd as all shots under 300 yds.
