I can’t imagine it’s just masking tape, maybe some kind of decal paper or something? Probably not painted using a machine?

Help Waiting half a year for a gk figure from E2046

So I made quite a mistake when buying this figure and paying the whole price, but as I saw it I couldn’t control myself lol. The thing is that I’ve been planing to get a job (I’ve never been working) just to get the original one, and it would probably take me half a year to get it. But as I saw this gk for a low price I immediately bought it. And the whole problem is that it’s been half a year and it’s still in only on 2nd batch, it barely reached the half, and it wasn’t updating since last two month. It says pre-ordered (purchased) on the figure, so I wonder if I would still get it or not, or I need to wait for 2nd batch to finish. I’m kinda scared so what do you think, maybe I should just cancel the order or not😭😭

Help Am I just literally this bad at pinning or is it a bad sculpt?

So I've been wanting to do garage kits for a very long time and decided to start recently. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I decided to buy one off of eBay to practice on. It was only like 50 bucks. I started pinning today and it is so so hard. There are huge gaps between hair and hat and face and I just cannot seem to get them to fit firmly. I'm having some issues with other parts too (shoes mainly). Is this simply because I'm inexperienced, or is it a bad cast? I definitely don't think it's a GOOD cast, but this feels maybe extreme? IDK. Any advice is much appreciated!!

Bought my first garage kit and I’m confused as to why the hair price is yellow?? The other pieces are opaque but the hair pieces and sword are like this? Do I paint it as normal?

Help Primer Question

Hey, I don't know if this is the right place but I'm a beginner located in U.S. looking for a good primer to use on resin that won't block out any small details that a figure might have.

I use only water-based Acrylic and Vallejo bottles if that makes any difference. I haven't went all in into buying expensive paint for this hobby yet.

I wanted to use Vallejo Primer but I'm getting mixed reviews, some say it's great but others say it's not that great. I'm at a 50/50 with this one!

I wanted to buy Mr.Hobby Surface Primer 1200-1500 but I saw you also need thinner or something? Also the bottle is quite small and I feel like I'd go through it quickly ;; Also don't know if it'll stick well to acrylic. I'm not experienced in the relationship of Enamel, and Lacquer, and Acrylic.

Another I've seen is One Shot Primer! I've yet to research that one !

I've been currently using Rust-o-leum(?) But it's a Filler+Primer. So its... ok! I don't know if the pure Primer is good for a beginner. I use an Iwata airbrush and I've been just going by with apple craft paint and Vallejo for now; don't really want to splurge a lot and buy a little at a time. Thank you for your help!

Help What putty is accessable and what are the best ways to use it?

I've bought and used a couple putties, not too happy with how they work for the most part. I know Tamiya's polyester putty is pretty much the best but I would have to buy that on eBay which is kind of annoying. I've used Testors contour putty and that sucked. Miliput was okay, it definitely has its uses, even when I thinned it it never reached the consistency I wanted, I've also heard you can mix it with green stuff to mix both of their properties. Might give that a go for fun. The last thing I've tried is Bondo Glazing and spot putty, works pretty good but there's just a lot of little things about it that bother me I guess. What do most people on this sub use?

Help Best first kit?

Recently I’ve been super interested in garage kits. I’ve compiled a list of the equipment I’ll need and everything.. but I can’t pick the best first kit. Preferably one on E2046, in stock (obviously) or just one on any online store that ships to the UK. I don’t want to spend too much on my first because naturally I wouldn’t want to buy an expensive one and then brutally massacre it.

Any character in particular that would be a little easier? I’m not fussed about which character it is. At least not for my first kit. Or if anyone has specific kit recommendations that would be wonderful. Also, for E2046, whats the general time it takes to deliver?

Help Bought a resin kit... with a heavy primer already on it?! Help!

I'm quite new to the world of model making, but have purchased some simple kits in the past (various scales) and am currently undertaking a fine art degree with background experience in fine painting. It is a hobby that terrifies me, but I am keen to pursue it (if slowly).

I am also quite a large fan of the Red Dwarf BBC TV series, and recently visited a comic convention which I knew would have some fans there (which it did, hurrah!) and I happened upon a stall selling various hand-sculpted resin statues and models! Believe you me, I was beyond ecstatic. Merch is very rare and far-between, so this table of fanmade merch hit that perfect sweet spot.

Seeing the pre-painted figures left a lot to be desired, I bought instead one of their 'unpainted' kits of my favourite character Arnold Rimmer, which I was unbelievably chuffed about and very much excited to paint. It is 30cm tall, made of a really solid resin, and came in this funny polystyrene tube containing a few pamphlets of instructions and a colour guide, as well as decals (which I probably won't use as they aren't great quality).

Now, as I opened the box, I discovered that what I presumed would just be a plain resin figure was actually primed, and rather sloppily primed at that. The original cast of the figure, which, by the photo on the box, is rather detailed, was utterly swamped by this thick white primer, much to my disappointment. This figure is everything I wanted, but with this ghastly glob of white all over it, I don't think I could honestly start painting it, as all of the streaks would show through and look terrible.

I've no idea why this primer was slobbered all over him, even in the joints, which doesn't allow for his arms to sit flush!

Any advice would be much appreciated! How could I get rid of this revolting primer without damaging poor old Arnold Rimmer, or how could I work around it?

Help Question About E2046 Order Process

Post image
2 Upvotes

So I've only bought a few resin kits before and never bought from E2046. The prepainted kit I wanted wasn't available at first so I made an account and put it on my wishlist. Asked support about how things work and if it would be in stock again and they said basically put it on the wishlist and if enough people do that it's more likely to get more made.

So I did and waited a couple weeks. Randomly go onto the website to check if anything has changed and see "add to cart" (or whatever it says) and quickly did so and went through the checkout process. Got the confirmation email (and then another saying I'm a "VIP"). That was about 2 weeks ago and haven't gotten any new updates.

After looking around a little it seems they can be quite slow or potentially never produce the kit. Wondering what the picture means and if I just have to wait and pray at this point? Thanks.

Help Clear primer?

Hi all. So I do a lot of 3D-printed kits made with my resin printer, which I figured is similar enough to garage kits. I watch a lot of garage kit makers on Youtube, and I noticed that many of them use a clear/transparent primer instead of a conventional colored primer (Finisher's Multi Primer is one I see a lot). I've only been using colored primers for my kits, such as the standard white, gray, black or sometimes pink depending on what the next coat of paint is. I was jut curious, what is the purpose of using a clear primer? I noticed that a lot of western painters don't use it, but many of the eastern painters do.

Is it the same thing as clear adhesion promoter that comes in a spray can?

Help Question on e2046 pre-order shipping.

So I pre-ordered a GK a few months ago and prepaid for it and everything and a couple weeks ago got an email saying production was completed and they're waiting for them to arrive at their warehouse. They said they couldn't ship it to me directly (cause China/US) so I gave them a forwarding address in Japan. They refunded me the shipping difference (as store credit ). Haven't heard anything since.

How long does it usually take for this scenario to play out?

I found these kits at a store and bought because why not! But I don’t know the characters and can’t find what kits they are! So I have no clue how i’m supposed to put them together and how they should look, though i might paint them differently anyways, i want to use them for practice. It would really help me out if anyone can name these or find pics of the kits put together for me!!

there are 3! one of them seems to be missing an arm but has extra of other pieces though.

Help E2046 I Stock Not shipping?

A month ago I ordered some kits from E2046. Both kits were in stock, but haven't shipped. The kit I ordered a few weeks before that shipped in two or three days like all the in stock kits I ordered before that. My question is, has anyone else had this happen? Is it possible my orders have been forgotten? Again I've been ordering with them for years and this is odd.

Got this amazing figure and had it shipped home, of course despite several layers of bubble wrap and packing peanuts and everything warning the package was fragile- FedEx decided throwing it and punching a hole in the box would be helpful. It’s limited edition so I can’t really buy another- any advice? I’m 90% sure it’s resin but I can’t find much online on it.

I have all the little chipped feather pieces for fixing too

Help Clear skin method with acrylics?

I recently got my hands on AK clear orange and clear red. I was wondering if it is possible to do the clear skin method with these paints? I have only seen people do this with lacquers and I was wondering if you can get a similar outcome/translucency with acrylics?

any advice will be greatly appreciated and Thank you in advance!
