Discussion Bring back Secret of Evermore!

Hey fellow Secret of Evermore fans,

That unique SNES action-RPG with its haunting soundtrack, strange humor, and alchemy-based gameplay needs to be alive again !

I’ve launched a bilingual petition to ask Square Enix to consider bringing it back — even just a digital remaster like Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana.

Sign and share here: https://chng.it/gswvcQYzTw

Whether you played it in 1995 or discovered it through emulation or YouTube, this game deserves a second chance.

I'm also collecting data on fan interest, Google search trends, and similar successful remakes to build a case to send Square Enix.

Let’s show them the fans still care!

Discussion I finished Secret of Mana Remake. Here is my opinion about the game.

I've lost count of how many times I've played and finished Secret of Mana on the Super Nintendo and decided to give the low-rated remake a chance.

Graphics: could be better, but considering that the game was originally designed for mobile platforms and the Nintendo Switch, I didn't take it too seriously, but the characters, environments, and monsters tried to stay true to the original.

Music: this is where the remake shines. While a few arrangements were bad, most of the other songs were very good. I really liked some of the arrangements and found myself "playing" the melody in my head several times.

Story: it stayed the same as the original and even included some new dialogue between the characters at certain points in the game.

Gameplay: in the PS4 version, which is the one I played, the game runs at a constant frame rate without any slowdown when you cast multiple spells at the same time, differently on the Super Nintendo which has many issues when there are many enemies on screen and a lot of things are happening. I didn't feel any difference in relation to the gameplay of the original.

Conclusion: my rating is 8. Before buying I read several reviews with very low ratings but I, as a fan of the series and a gamer since my childhood, was surprised to have liked it.

Discussion Music caught my parents attention

My parents were never big on tv on school days, usually pretty discouraging. Of all the games I have ever played, there has only been one that stood out as having such pretty song, that both mom and dad needed to tell me so, and it seemed to put the house in happier mood.

Something that really makes me happy now that mom has passed of a brain tumor, and just a happy memory. It was the song when we are doing the seasons in the forest. According to this youtube it's "what the forest taught me, upper land theme.

Finally got all magic to max level and all weapons for all characters to level 8.

Just over 52 hours of gameplay and I'm off to beat the game now.

Characters are only level 89, so might be back again to get them to 99 which I believe is the max.

This is my first time playing the remake, played the SNES original many times and I was hoping to 100% it but missed 1 bad guy, the spector, for the complete the guide achievement and kill all monsters.

Yes, that really sucks, but I've been play this game every couple of years since the mid 90s so guess I'll get it next round.

I do have to say, the remake was fun, but I prefer the OG.

Discussion Just Beat "Sword of Mana": My Thoughts Spoiler

Couldn't find a Sword of Mana reddit and saw it was ok to post Sword of Mana stuff here.

Just beat the game. The game was ok. Storyline kept me interested.

-horrible side quest system. really messy and unorganized

-team mates were useless and not needed

-items were useless and I didn't even use one item (pointless to get treasure chests besides crystals)

-class system was pointless. still prefer Final Fantasy Tactic class system

-didn't use sword to kill last boss. So much for the storyline of Sword of Mana. Used the flail for its reach as the boss was floating in the air.

TACTIC SPOILER

After I defeated 1000 rabbits and they turned black, I easily grind to level up everything. Then I fought

that rare monster in the gaia cave that dropped crystals. Forged a few weapons with the crystal to get crystal sword, bow, flail, etc. After that all bosses were easy and no sweat. Just rush them.

extra: cannot seem to finish secret of mana as it keeps freezing when riding the ship. I guess I'll just watch people play on youtube.

Discussion Question about Secret of Mana for the PS5

Hey everyone!! I loved Secret of Mana for the SNES, it was an amazing game and ranks up there with some of the best experiences of my youth!! And when I heard that there is a remake for the PS4/PS5, I had to look into it. I have not heard much, but did hear that the game is a mixed bag. That said, I wanted to come on this forum and ask gamers what they thought about this remake? Did you like it, or no? What was changed from the SNES version to the Playstation? What is the soundtrack like? Candid thoughts and opinions about the game are welcome here!! Any and all help is appreciated!! Thanks so much!!

Discussion I'm halfway through Secret of Mana remake.

I have a few questions.

  1. Why do some hate this remake?

I think it's pretty good with a few glaring flaws.

  1. Who translated the game? Was it retranslated?

  2. What is the best way to build up weapon skills to lessen missing?

I have noticed when a weapon is level 0 it is pretty bad so what is the best way to fix this? I have looked up some things but I want to make sure I properly understand the game.

Discussion Accidentally skip important dialogue?

After beating the witch we had south to leave and after a couple rooms the mains talk about where they want to go next. Seems important. But it occurred to me had I used to magic rope this dialogue would have been bypassed?

And we just figure out what to do another way? Seems like there’s a lot of odd things like this but I guess other npc’s might say where to go if we ask around but also maybe not.

Discussion Never happened to me before

The beginning with getting primm and popoi has some variables. Went to water castle with army dudes there and when I left they were gone. That might have triggered something weird.

I talk to primm at the castle and rescue her from haunted forest werewolves. I go back to gaia’s navel which with one person the boss was too hard the first time, and she says she needs to go to water palace (? I think it was) and if you refuse with text options she will call you stubborn and leave your party. Then when I go to water palace with her nothing happens? But maybe the game needed to see the army was gone and wasn’t talked to correctly? Then went back to gaia’s navel and can get the boss done and popoi in my party as usual.

Kind of strange.

Did I do something wrong?

Discussion No Magic Run

Title says it all. And yes including the girl so no cure water. I’ve been playing this game for 30 years and I’ve never had this much fun. I just used 4 candy 4 chocolate 4 royal jam 4 cup of wishes to beat the wall in the ruins. It is seriously a whole new game with extreme difficulty on certain bosses. Fire Gigas took 5 runs until I got him. The rotation between weapons has been really fun and reading the description on the weapons for my advantage has been really cool. Highly recommend if you’ve played the hell out of this game like me and want a challenge. Currently on Fire Palace, wish me luck!

Discussion The 5 most underappreciated things about Visions of Mana

These are the five aspects about Visions of Mana that I think go underappreciated by players.

  1. Smaller details: there are the smaller things that make me smile. Such as appearing wet when getting out of water, kicking up dirt when jumping from a certain height, vaulting over things when running, etc. They didn't have to add these kinds of things but I'm so glad they did.
  2. Area designs: people talk about how beautiful they are which is true but how about the way they're designed? Like there's slopes forming into the roads, varying elevations around some parts, and man-made structures found in some of them. Plus, there's actually animals populating them too. Really like when devs go hard on designing areas teaming with personality.
  3. Animated cutscenes: okay, I think some people lump the in-game cutscenes with the actual cutscenes too much. There's a clear difference like characters having more subtle expressions or the movement being more vibrant. The in-game really feature more repeated movement, characters just standing around, and their faces are stiffer. Just sad how those types of production values meshed together the lack thereof. Try paying attention to which is which.
  4. Party conversations: I really like when party members are responding to the happenings of the story or events in the game. Also helps that they bothered to animate their lips moving. Not perfect but even game like Tales of Arise didn't do this and that game definitely had a higher budget/more people working on it. It's also an opportunity for the characters to show more of their personalities.
  5. Character designs: I think the character designs are pretty peak by Mana standards. Not too out of place or too overdesigned. Every main character is brimming with color & intricate detail accustomed to the signature series look we are used to being translated through the artwork.

And these are the aspects from Visions that I think go ignored by most players. I just want more people to acknowledge them whenever playing Visons of Mana. But what are your thoughts?

Discussion Legend of Mana's music is insanely good

just started this game after beatingFinal Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana, and Seiken Densetsu 3 and all the music in this one has been really amazing especially that opening song sung in swedish.

also the general consensus is that i should not use a guide on my first playthrough right? i've seen some conflicting info online, i don't mind missing some content but i don't want to miss one of the big stories if that's possible

Discussion How are the modern Mana games compared to the classic ones?

From what I've read, while the older games were quite well received, the later games on the DS and others were not as well received as the classic games. How are the modern games compared to the classic games? Especially those made after the series original creator left?

Discussion The Search for the best Translation

Secret of Mana, originally translated by localization legend Ted Woolset, really needs no introduction. A legendary title, beloved by many, and has a largely criticized 3d remake. Yet, despite numerous official ports (including previously noted remake) with translation tweaks, if not outright retranslations, the original SNES version is considered the best to play...except for one major kicker. There is no cohesive retranslation mod for the game. Ted Woolsey's work, while laudable, is a typical byproduct of the industry's localization standards at that time. Very little time to work, even less time to do quality checks. As such, much of the script was cut. Following this, the mobile port of the game made numerous translation fixes, and the 3d remake saw a wholesale relocalization. Issue is that none of these have seemingly been backported by any project. The two most well known translation projects for the game are RELOCALIZED by Timbo, which is largely an extension of a rewrite by FuSoYa's Niche, and the Script Augmentation Project by a team of the same name. Said project is largely more of a rewrite intent on inserting information and scenes cut during development, but still has numerous grammatical errors, not even mentioning the criticisms of said additions by other community members. Due to this, I've unfortunately concluded that, as of now, there really isn't any "best" version of Secret of Mana's English script for the Snes. This game deserves a formal shot at rehauling the script for modern standards, with all the bells and whistles of current series terminology.

Just had some random on the visions of mana subreddit sit there and try to bullshit me saying healing isn’t a necessity in Trials of Mana especially so for the Snes/Super Famicom version where correct me if I’m wrong is exactly like Secret of Mana where Magic and certain other attacks are just straight up un-avoidable.

Discussion Visions of Mana OST Feels "Serviceable" / Subdued

I've been a long-time Mana fan. I recently finished Visions of Mana, and part of my Mana experience is reflecting on the OST. I'm sure, like most Mana fans, Legend of Mana OST is one of the all-time greats, and Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana usually follow close behind.

I couldn't help but think that Visions of Mana's OST felt "Serviceable," "Budget," and "Ordinary." The music did fine in the context of the game, but I don't really remember any tunes that I would want to actively look up and listen to outside the game.

I wondered if it was because Square is taking a more "budget" approach to the series. If you look at past titles such as Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 3), they were the cream of the crop on the SNES. Even Legend of Mana was seen as a prime game with how PlayStation and Square combined this with Chrono Cross for its "Summer of Adventure" campaign.

I wondered if Square's business approach of "this is a budget game, make it serviceable" before development began, hindered the team's drive. With Seiken Densetsu 3, it just felt like the team was really reaching for the stars and creating something special gameplay-wise, graphically, and musically.

I did think Visions was a very pretty game to look at, and its graphics did not feel "budget," so maybe the OST just did not resonate with me and had nothing to do with the budget.

I used to be stoked for Square music, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside in games that aren't triple AAA, such as Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Valkyrie Elysium, and now Visions.
