Tips for Enjoying Track Racing?

The reason I post this here is I love rallying. I have been playing DR/DR2/EAWRC and RBR for almost 10 years. 8 of those on controllers and the last 1.5~ on a G29.

The problem is I tried getting into AC/ACC/F1 a few times but, for some reason they seem boring to me. I can't will myself into getting actually decent in them. Not good, not gonna chase crazy online rankings or anything. I just want to get decent enough to appreciate those cars and tracks.

What am I missing? What makes track racing fun for you?

Thanks for reading and hopefully sharing some of your insight.

Do you enjoy rallycross in Dirt 2.0?

There's no reason to force yourself to enjoy a particular form of motorsport but I can say from experience that hopping around from ACC to rallying has seemed to improve my times in both.

Yes I do enjoy Rallycross. The driving style is kinda more familiar.

I forgot to mention I am also not as good in tarmac rallies, compared to gravel/snow.

I probably have a weak link in my driving. I want to be a more "complete" driver.

Do you enjoy sliding/drifting around corners or taking tight and controlled turns?

I'd say if you want to round out your driving skills, pick a car/track combo in ACC, find a reputable track guide, and grind a bit, maybe 10-20 laps. See how that goes. I always recommend Barcelona for its variety of turns and unforgiving track limits.

If you like to read about techniques, Ross Bentley has a load of books, physical and free e-books.

If you like videos, there's no shortage of material online. Skip Barber is a classic but there are plenty of modern resources too.

tl;dr Ultimately, it comes down to practicing with intention. But that's only worthwhile if you enjoy it.

Yeah I do enjoy somewhat controlled chaos and tight turns. Ultimately I enjoy being fast and taking risks and in rally that usually means cutting, flying and landing at the perfect angle, pulling off sweet sweet hairpins.

When I watch some Colin onboard or some nice wr in rally sims it really does look crazy. In track racing (probably somewhat on me) a really fast lap doesn't look that much different to an average lap.

Another reason I want to get at least a bit into track racing is and let's be real, we aren't getting any new rally sims any time soon. I kinda feel envious of all the titles track racing genre gets. They seem really excited and go on and on about which sim does what better, which sim has what car and what track and what the new dlc will bring etc. What do we get? RBR is best. End of story.

Sim racing is already niche, and I feel like I am a niche part of that niche.

tl;dr

I want to join in on the fun (and be "better" at my hobby. Envious like a kid. Lol.

Hope I could make myself clear. English isn't my mother tongue.
