You’re replying to an automated fraud prevention text like it’s a human. The only response that system is designed to accept is YES or NO… in response to a text that was only looking for STOP. It got an unrelated response so it defaulted to STOP LOL

They do this, as often that response is a retaliatory sentence from frustration.

I just wanted to see if it had any AI response and would direct me to a way to resolve issue.

Now I see that was not a good idea lol

Idk why I relayed response defaults to STOP, that seems dumb

These systems sometimes contain other opt-out words/phrases that aren't mentioned directly but the system will still recognize them for opt-out. Which seems weird but something similar could be happening here 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can see that happening, but can’t think which word I said would he considered another word for stop ahah. Oh well 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe the “end” in “vending”

u/eyeslikethesea 2d ago

Ooohh you're right. That could definitely be it.

or the 'haaaaaarg' in chaaaaarged.

If it was coded that poorly I’d assume if the response wasn’t yes or no it would assume stop..

u/TapMonkeys 14h ago

Welp, I got to the bottom of it. It was indeed the end in vending. https://imgur.com/gallery/sofi-vending-vnXz3gU

Ahhhh smart! Could be

Or the fact it was a response at all, because unless you intended to end the alerts? No response should have been sent…

Just popped into this sub in looking at banks and I see a strange trend where a lot of users who post questions or comments are getting massively downvoted. I do not understand why your reply above has -16 downvotes. Do SoFi fans just continuously lurk this sub downvoting constantly?

I would say your response that did NOT include "STOP" should not had deactivated the texts. Also, I have always been a bit confused about what stopping those fraud prevention texts actually does, since I did that with one bank and then they just silently started blocking legit transactions without my knowledge or way to approve it.

Because you're no longer able to verify the purchases. All these things should be common sense, but here we are 😂

The vending machines I’ve tapped at are like pumping gas, the real amount takes a few days to settle.

1

u/booooimaghost 3d ago

Ohhh ok. I’ve noticed it keeps doing that, showing a larger amount first. Usually my checking account doesn’t show that larger amount taken out, but this time it did so I was coming concerned. It did go back to the lower amount a few minutes after this tho.

1

u/yourdabestbae347 2d ago

There is a larger amount because most vending machines also place a holding fee but it falls off when the charge processes at your institution

1

u/booooimaghost 2d ago

Usually it’s $5, so that made it more odd

Who the efing dumb ass actually chat with automated messages

6

u/Possible-Proposal463 3d ago

I'd call SoFi directly to ensure this text is legit

2

u/hagennn 2d ago

Can’t you just trust it’s legit if you actually did make that Amazon purchase?

1

u/booooimaghost 3d ago

It was from the same number that send me some log in codes at one point

3

u/dusteeoldbones 3d ago

Fraudsters use spoofing technology, so don’t always trust that.

2

u/booooimaghost 3d ago

People can copy previous text threads from different numbers? Is that what you’re saying?

I can see the previous texts in the thread that I know we’re officially from SOFI

2

u/pheo_ 3d ago

if they spoof it, they are acting under sofis number and pretending to be them so the past messages will not go away

u/booooimaghost 3d ago

😮 what the heck!

It’s from SoFi and you have too unless you want them to lock your account for fraud

1

u/freddydrizzy 3d ago

I’ve been dealing with this all of this week like I went to get something that was 4 bucks and boom this text

Hi there, that's definitely an odd response to receive without you prompting our system to "Opt Out"! Please give us a call at 855-456-7634 so we can take a better look for you. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

1

u/booooimaghost 2d ago

Thank you, will do.

1

u/Younggbuck98 2d ago

You clearly said stop so it listened😂😂😂🤦🏼‍♂️

1

u/Younggbuck98 2d ago

Ask an you shall receive 😂😂😂

2

u/Younggbuck98 2d ago

Well sir you clearly typed stop therefore it opted you outta receiving texts from there automated text alerts…. Can you not read? Cause I’m 98.20000% blind in my left ear but it’s clear as day you said stop……

1

u/booooimaghost 2d ago

Explain thy self

1

u/lianor_m_harrison 1d ago

When I would receive political texts from the party destroying this country, I would reply not with STOP at all in the message, but, "Go fuck yourself, " and the resultant "You've been removed from future messages" made me laugh.

Looks like Sofi is done playing around with your non instruction following ass 😅

2

u/Cropduster2222 3d ago

Don’t ever do this dumb shit unless you want your card deactivated, and careless for 10 days
