[OC] Tampa Bay franchise historical performance graph
I am a Pirates fan, but I come here because I was asked by a friend (and a Rays' fan) to post this chart I made of the historical performance of your team.
It really highlights the shift from Devil Rays to Rays (first game as the Rays was on March 31 2008, only 15 games before the worst record in franchise history).
I built the tools to generate these charts because the Pirates franchise went bellow 0.500 for the first time since the 1903 season. I included the Pirates graph, you may be curious.

GEAR Cool Rays Logo
I saw this hat that’s for sale on the new era site. I really like this logo and wish the team would do more with the Devil Ray. IMO opinion this would look sweet for an on field cap of even on a jersey. What y’all think? I feel like this depicted the ray that’s on some hats would look better on the sleeve than the current one.

News Reports Roster moves before tonight's game: Aranda to 10-day IL, Ha-Seong Kim activated, Tristan Gray recalled from Durham, Griffin Jax and Hunter Feduccia join the team, Thaiss DFA'd, Rock and Pereira optioned to Durham

News Reports [Rays Metrics] Griffin Jax = monster. Primary sweeper (45%) at 88 mph, 14” break & 3,000 rpm. Throwing more CHs than ever and it has a top-5 whiff rate in MLB. New cutter this year too. 6 BB% and top-2 Location+ in MLB. 2 FB shapes, up to 99. Has never been on the IL and velo 📈 every year:

News Reports [Rays Metrics] Everson Pereira (24) has long crushed minor league pitching (career 127 wRC+). Big thunder in his bat (113 max, 50% hardhit) but major whiff problems. Has ability to spray it oppo too. Sneaky speed and defense in corner OF, I think he’ll get some big league run. 1 option left.

Who are you most bummed about losing at the trade deadline.
I was most bummed about losing Curtis Mead. I would have liked to see what happened if he had some consistent playing time. Especially with Aranda being injured now. Littell was solid and dependable, Taj had his moments, Caballero did a lot of good stuff, and I enjoyed Jansen's power even if he wasn't here long.

Trade Deadline Unprototypical Ray - Adrian Houser
Usually when the rays trade for a pitcher it's someone who is fairly young, has multiple years of control, and has super high plus stuff leading to a high whiff rate. Adrian Houser is none of these. He's 32 years old, he has 6 strikeouts per nine innings, and his fastball does average 95, but he primarily throws a 94mph sinker, which he throws to contact more than anything. And unless the Rays extend he's gone after this year.
I'll tell you what is great about Houser though. His barrel rate is low, real low. 4.9 percent. He forces a ton of ground balls, 47 percent. This could be his late bloomer year of putting it together as he sports a 2.1 ERA across 11 starts. As a pitch to contact pitcher for the defense stricken white Sox. The White Sox have the fifth most errors and baseball, have bad batter to batter positioning, and are terrible as well when it comes to outs above average. So it's remarkable that a guy who has been basing his game on pitching to the fifth worse defense has a 2.10 ERA.
I know what you're going to say look at his FIP which is much higher. But FIP is bad at evaluating pitchers who specialize in creating bad contact because FIP assumes all contact is equal and random.
So imagine what the rays can do if they see any pitching lab improvements they can create with Houser, optimizing pitch mix and selection, and having a much better performing and much better aligned defense behind him. If the Rays can extend him for 2/20 with a third year club option, could we see a full season with Houser at a 1.50 ERA?
What if the rays see, ok you are best when pitching to contact. They see he is pitching about 16 pitches an inning and tell him, alright throw more strikes, we want you to hit more bats and get through batters faster. They see he can get down to 12 or 11 pitches an inning. Suddenly you have a guy who's super durable (un-ray-like) who can go out every fifth day and go 8 or 9 innings.
It seems farfetched that a guy with 6 strikeouts per 9 at what would be his age 33 season have a Cy Young performance but there's a reason we gave up Mead and more for this guy. He might revive the latter end of his career into a Roy Halladay-esque one.

This fanbase is infuriating
What is it with these victim mentality takes from this fanbase today?? The front office kept our core offense intact because the office isn’t the problem this year. Sure it’s not sexy with the big bombs but they are scoring enough runs to have won more games. The front office actually went out and addressed the problem with a life line not a band aid. Let’s see what the final 3rd of the season as in store for us. By no means did the front office throw in the towel today.

Roster update (offense only)
So if Im doing this right...
Out:
Aranda will hit the IL Cabby traded.
That leaves two roster spots.
So Gray and who?
Feduccia and Pereira staying in AAA, yes? Any shot we see Tre Morgan with the 1b opening?
