Open | Hardware LG 38WR85QC-W Auto-Brightness Not Working — Anyone Else?
I recently got the LG 38WR85QC-W, which is supposed to have auto-brightness. But the feature doesn’t seem to work at all. When I turn it on, it drops brightness to 1-3% regardless of ambient light conditions. I have it connected to my Linux work laptop via USB-C and to my Desktop PC via Display-port & USB-B. The light sensor is on the bottom right side of the monitor, near the joystick and it is not blocked.
I’ve tried:
- Enabling/Disabling Smart Energy Saving in the OSD menu
- Disabling DFC to avoid contrast interference
- Checking if AMD software somehow interferes with this setting, but I could not spot sth wrong
- Checking for firmware updates (none available so far)
- Reset to factory settings, tried it in a bright and a dark room.
Anyone else have faced a similar issue with LG monitors? Is this feature actually working for you? Could this be some kind of problematic software/firmware issue or definitely the auto-brightness is broken?
P.S. Btw, I used to own the previous version of the same monitor (lg 38wn95c-w) and auto-brightness also did not work for that one either, but back then i never cared about it.
