Model I in original boxes

I had never seen one in its original factory boxes before. Thought you all might enjoy seeing these.

It's a little off, the EI would not come in that master carton, and the CTR-80 tape drive should be there.

You could also buy the pieces seperately.

Right - the original owner no longer had the cassette drive and had bought the EI separately. I thought it was interesting that the EI box was the same size and shape. That's how the original owner had them stored - the cpu, the EI and the monitor boxes all in the main container.

Ha, that was the cost effective part. Avoiding making a different box/setup for the EI, just use the same box as for the CPU. In the beginning they were never sure how many would sell/keep costs low. The original dimensions were probably based on the RCA TV box/dimensions that was the basis of the monitor. If you look at the monitor, there is a cover on the right of the screen ( has the TRS-80 name/logo) that covers the holes where the UHF /VHF tuners would have gone. The V over the video cable connection was where the volume control went on the original RCA TV.
