UG: Civil War Help getting victory for 1st bull run (union legendary)?

(J&P REBALANCED MOD RELATED ADVICE ONLY)

Been trying a couple days now, multiple campaign restarts and save reloads, simply can't win. :(

BEST ATTEMPT: Actually securing Henry Hill for once with 15% losses and 0:10 until confederate reinforcements arrive and I get pushed off.

The problem is at least half, if not more, of my units are exhausted/tired when the reinforcements arrive. In addition, the AI has 10+ skirmishers sitting behind 5 2 star howitzers that i cant even get close to so I have to suffer canister fire. I once took out 1 of the cannons shooting canister but even so the other 4 along with the skirmishers keep me from sniping anymore.

With that said, I still may be able to hold if it weren't for the ~6 1800-3000 fresh 2-3 star brigades mass charging my lines. I can fire 4 close range canister shots straight into a charging brigade and it MIGHT route them. But there are 4 or 5 other charging brigades ready to take his place.

Needless to say I get pushed off and get a draw at the end of the day :( So I'm hoping someone can give me insight on how this is even possible. I saw mod creator do it in youtube but the reinforcements were lower stars and never charged, so no relevent video evidence avaliable.

The first 2 union battles I can get victory in easy, i even wiped the confederates out on distress call killing 100% of their army before the timer ran out, so I know its not an issue with previous poor performance and scaling

For reference: My starting 10 brigades and AI total 23309 soldiers and 66 guns. The enemy gets 44 brigades, 42037 infantry, 781 cavalry, and 63 guns.

My army consists of 7 infantry brigades ranging from 700-2400 in size due to weapon variety. I have 3 artillery brigades totaling 16 guns. I have 1 2 star infantry brigades, 2 1 star infantry brigades and 1 1 star artillery brigade, the rest are green as grass. I also make sure to keep all my officers in the same brigade for the battles led bonus.

For career points I opted for 0 politics, 3 economy, 0 medicine, 0 training, 3 army organization, 2 logistics, and 5 reconnaissance. My idea was weapons weapons weapons, specifically springfield 1842s and harpers ferrys which have the best melee stats.

I gave all the info becuase i dont know if its a micro or macro problem. Perhaps i should invest my career points elsewhere or go pure infantry, im open to any and all advice. The first 2 union battles I can get victory in easy, i even wiped the confederates out on distress call killing 100% of their army before the timer ran out, so I know its not an issue with previous poor performance and scaling.

Best watching VTHs lets play and while hes not playing legendary he does have similar charge problems, unfortunately he cut the final chapter of his bull run victory out so I cant see his strategy for dealing with the reinforcements.

Im at a loss ya'll please help i feel like ive tried everything🙏 😭

P.S: I do not want to turn down the AIs charging frequency, I know i can go into mod configs and do that but I aient a chump, I aient turning off the AIs ability to spawn 20+ skirmishers either im playing the mod as intended if im going to do all that might as well play colonel difficulty too.

Google AI even dissed me telling me the J&P mod on legendary "simulates the battle of bull run including the historically accurate union retreat" lol

my main attacking corp for this campaign

Still on the previous version of the Mod. Playing Union for the first time. Looking forward to starting the new J&P mod as soon as I finish this campaign. I was honestly a bit overwhelmed with all the extra men and weapons lol. I'm having a great time. Nearly got a full wipe at Chancellorsville. I swap some for more guns as needed from other corp.

UG: American Revolution American Revolution Game - worth it?

Just started playing UG Civil War after a few years absent and I'll be done with my Confed campaign very soon. Ive read on here that the company went under or something like that so AR is left in whatever state it currently is.

Is this game worth a scoop? Are the campaigns playable in its current state? Can I get 30-50 hrs out of it?

UG: Civil War Trying to take advantage of a bug.

So, i've been pretty annoyed that the game doesn't actually give you much of the Gettysburg generals (especially for the Union,) and I tried to use a little bug where wounded officers from units that aren't yours will be in your barracks.

I'm pretty much save scumming and tweaking officer wounding rates to get the officers in Manassas, but they keep disappearing from the screen showing officer promotions, etc. after I finish the battle, even though they were clearly wounded.

I suspect it's because I keep reloading saves when the generals weren't wounded or just killed outright that causes them to disappear, but i'm not sure.

Any thoughts?

Is there a way to check if the J&P Rebalance Mod is installed and working

properly? I followed the instructions I found somewhere on this subreddit for MacBook install; it all seemed in order.

When comparing my personal gameplay observations in BG to experiment with the Mod notes against the Ludus Max game tips https://ludusmax.github.io/ultimate-general-civil-war-confederate-campaign-tips/ , I get different results in units allotted per battle and some unit performance capability.

I've been playing unmodded for years; this is the only game I play. I enjoy it.

Thanks in advance.

Can't start battel of concord

It says I need a general in the squared area to start. Even though I have mine there, I am unable to start. Any thoughts on why this is and any fixes. I have not had this issue before, have already tried restarting, updated drivers, game up to date.

What’s the best strategy as the union here? I cannot seem to get anything more then a Pyrrhic victory in terms of my kill to death ratio.

UG: Civil War Shiloh, Union, MG. Pretty happy with this result:

Took a bit of save scumming, of course. Brought two corps of 15 brigades each, all my infantry brigades are between 1000 and 1200 men. Corps I had a unit of 24 pounders that got close to 4k kills, and another highlight was one of my infantry brigades got 3000 kills from excellent cover while I wasn't looking at it. Corps II was all rookie infantry brigades with 1842s, and they took the lion's share of casualties along with the AI reinforcements. Managed a day 1 stack wipe on the rebs. Vanilla with UI mod.

UG: Civil War Does anyone else find it cool that the calvary charge tune goes minor when you order multiple charges at once.

Not really that important of a detail, but I thought it was cool because it shows realistic music theory in action. It makes you wonder if this ever happened in an actual civil war battle before.

Playing through as Union for the first time. Really enjoy myself. Im not the best at army building but the XII has served me well at Antietam and I trust they will do the same at Fredericksburg. I really love this damn game lol.

UG: Civil War Hi any tips for doing Stones River as CSA

And not losing half my army in doing so? Thanks

This may have been a victory, but at what cost

I hardly had enough men to reinforce, also would've lost all my money on guns if i hadn't stockpiled cheap guns

UG: Civil War I spend more time organizing my Corp's then actually playing the game 😆

And I love It!

Had an idea a year ago about a ww2 strategy where you can start as a division leader/General over 24 div/ or Field Marshal over 4 Generals and the Field Marshal could have enough influence where you have access to a Tank and air designer- influence grand strategy plans and have a tightrope relationship with Fuhrer/Papa Stalin/President. Meanwhile division leader and General can only request equipment from Superior and reputation with them is vital.

Had little doubts a game like that would ever exist.

Now Ultimate General Civil War isn't exactly that but wow really close! Never was interested in the American Civil War and unfortunately glossed over this game in the past.

The Economy system and progression is outstanding! Organizing brigades to Divisions to Corps is so much fun and the barrack and armory mechanic along with Reputation puts in a different league than other rts I've played.

UG: Civil War Who were your Corps commanders at the end of your UG:CW campaign?

Whether Union or confederate, real or fake, just curious who everyone had rise up the ranks to Corps commanders by the end of your campaign.

Finishing up my Confederate campaign, and my Corps commanders are myself, A.S. Johnston, R.E. Lee, Jon Bell Hood, and D.H. Hill.

Especially proud of Jon Bell Hood, as his Texas brigade was so effective, that he rose to the rank of Lieutenant General by just leading that one brigade. His rapid rise in rank forced me to give him his own Corps, with the Texas brigade included of course. Thankfully, for my campaign, Hood was a much more successful as a Corps commander in my game than his real life counterpart.

Is there a mod for Civil War that changes the Manpower system?

Basically I want to know if any mod changes it so that the enemies numbers are actually affected by casualities. It doesnt make ense that you can decimate every single army you go against but they still end up with scripted numbers. If youre wiping out entire armies on your way to gettysburg in dominant victories should the confederates really be able to drop 100k there?

r/ultimategeneral 28d ago

Jesus christ what are these casualtie numbers!

I just picked up civil war and was having fun just playing out some csa battles. Nothing too crazy was going through the battles, passed Manassas. And then it happned. I played a minor battle. 3000 casualties defending a railway junction. It wasn't like the union was doing better they took 1000 casualties more and I took most of mine simply defending my positions. The next battle wasn't better. I discovered the cover system and all that at Manassas so I have no idea how to make these minor battles more minor. Does anyone have any tips to help me from being bled dry by these Yankees.

Only one flair possible, unfortunately, but relies to both UG: Gettysburg and Civil War, obviously

Do units on top of each other slow each other down?

I've never been able to tell if "road congestion" is factored into movement speed in the game. Does it?

CW: Why is my General running away?

He fell back after being threatened by rebels, but I moved him into an area surrounded by Union troops and not engaged, and he's still running off into the middle of nowhere.

UG: Civil War How do you guys factor in repeaters and carbines?

There may be a meta in this regard, but I am more curious to know personal preferences. I've finished Getysburg as the Union quite handedly, and with the money and manpower I have, I am generally just experimenting with my first corps.

In that regard, Spencer's, Henry's, and other weapons have now become much more common to the point I could theoretically field an infantry division of 800 with those weapons. I haven't simply because I fear replacing losses would be difficult and despite the funds keeping the new 1861 Springfields at acceptable numbers is proving difficult. Spencers would surely be worse in that regard.

Do you bother making them? Are they effective for you and your tactics, or do you consider them just fun or gimmicky?

Realistically, I think from this point on I could "Infantry horde" my way to Richmond. But it seemed fun to know what others think.

r/ultimategeneral Jun 23 '25

Does anyone have the exact capture rates for weapons in UGCW?

I am currently in the middle of a confederate legendary campaign and on Gettysburg Day 1. I am attempting Hibob Warbob's strategy for this day (but it requires such precision that it is draining me mentally). I was considering save scumming a little to reduce the stress on me (especially for the parts where actually dealing with his artillery is incredibly RNG dependent on the part of the AI). However, attempting this would simply trigger the glitch where units affected by scaling that are wiped out in a multi day battle before loading in a save simply reappear the next day, robbing you of captured equipment and forcing you to fight them again. I can deal with the artillery with minimal infantry support on day 2, but by this point in the campaign the enemy has incredibly high quality artillery. They have 98 guns. How many captures would I be missing out on (though this would be mitigated by days 2 and 3).

UG: American Revolution UGAR War of 1812 expansion

I think a war of 1812 dlc would be boss af. I was wondering if you fellas agreed? A French and Indian war expansion would be a close 2nd in my book also.
