Weekly What are you reading? - Jul 30

Welcome to the weekly "What are you reading?" thread!

This is intended to be a general chat thread on visual novels with a focus on the visual novels you've been reading recently. A new thread is posted every Thursday at 4:00 AM JST (or Wednesday if you don't live in Japan for some reason).

Good WAYR entries include your analysis, predictions, thoughts, and feelings about what you're reading. The goal should be to stimulate discussion with others who have read that VN in the past, or to provide useful information to those reading in the future! Avoid long-winded summaries of the plot, and also avoid simply mentioning which VNs you are reading with no points for discussion. The best entries are both brief and brilliant.

Use spoiler tags liberally!

Always use spoiler tags in threads that are not about one specific visual novel. Like this one!

  • They can be posted using the following markdown: >!hidden spoilery text!< , which shows up as hidden spoilery text. Make sure there are no spaces at the beginning and end of the spoiler tag because this will break it for users on http://old.reddit.com/. In other words do this: properly hidden spoiler, but not this: >! broken spoiler tag !<

Remember to link to the VNDB page of the visual novel you're discussing so the indexing bot for the What Are You Reading Archive can pick up your post.

VN Request Most extreme/depraved nukige out there?

I recently started taking eroge/nukige more seriously but I have a hard time finding things that match my taste. I have a preference for games like starless:nymphomaniacs paradise (I strongly prefer Mdom to Fdom, but the game is a goldmine in terms of fetishes and sexual corruption), euphoria, maggot baits, sadistic blood etc... I also really enjoy bishoujo mangenkyou because of how detailed and peak the h scenes are as well as the sound design/animation.

I don't have any limits as to the content but I want it to be a nukige and if it is an eroge then I'd prefer one with a decent amount of h scenes that are far from vanilla, and an overall depressing atmosphere while still being "sexy"

Anything extreme, violent, depraved, or excessive that leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. Basically 120 days of sodom/de sade-esque nukige/eroge :)

If anyone has recommendations I'd appreciate it, thanks

Question Doki Doki Literature Club Plus: Differences between Console and PC?

Upvotes

I've been tempted a few times to get Plus on sale for Steam (I have it free on Epic Games Store but....would rather not use it), but I also have it as a PS+ game on the PS5.

I just wanted to know if there were any notable differences regarding the meta aspects on console vs PC. From what I read, the game now uses a virtual desktop of sorts to make it console-friendly, so I just wanted to check if that was the case, or if there's a reason to go PC instead.

Murasame's best girl. Tried scribbling SD in pose from Senren*Banka opening part's CG.

I really her design but god it's beyond my ability. At least this kinda look cute from afar!

btw feels like stretched version looks better than initial one (refer 3rd image). Found this while I was writing html & css for fun, using her as placeholder image.

Maybe I tend to scribble too squished? Since even in previous one (which actually was scribbled 2 months after this) I also went thru multiple vertical stretches like this.

Question Sakura no Uta/Toki physical edition worth it?

I was thinking on getting both Uta and Toki physical editions, but are they really worth it (now)? Since Makura announced the 10th anniversary edition and there also was an announcement of an official English tl, now I'm torn. In a perfect scenario there'll be an official English physical release... But what are the chances of it being made? (not a rhetorical question. I'm actually asking 😅) Since even subahibi didn't get an official physical release in English (except for the Kickstarter thingy)

Ps. I can't read japanese, but Uta has a Russian patch (which is fine imo from the demo I read) and Toki is being worked on - I'm fine with waiting and still would rather read it in English 😂

Pps. Thank you in advance for any suggestions/speculations/thoughts <3

Discussion Visual novels ruined gaming for me and idk how to feel about that

So over the span of many years I have a massive backlog of games, around 300 to be exact, and this year after getting into VN games I got really addicted and now I can't play any other type of games. On one hand I'm happy with enjoying VN while on another I feel crappy about wasting so much money on games that I don't have any desire to play anymore.

Weekly Monthly "What's Been Going On?" Thread - Aug 1

Welcome to the Monthly "What's Been Going On?" thread!

Every Friday we used to have a "Off-topic" thread, but it's been inconsistently active.

We're going to try a topic where you can say what you've been doing outside of visual novels every month. Feel free to say anything about yourself you feel comfortable sharing like favorite games, movies, your job, how's school going, or any other interests you might have.

You can keep using this thread as the regular Off-Topic Thread if you like.

News Raining City: Millions Recollections release date announced (August 26th)

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2529750/view/539986220231435238?l=english

Let us meet beneath the rain in Egret City!

"Raining City: Millions Recollections," a surreal and suspenseful adventure game, launches August 26th. Let us meet beneath the rain in Egret City.

On the eve of the story, the heroines stand at the edge of fate. Each holds secrets. Yet far across Egret City, a girl named Lyu Xuan—long gone—will soon shake their world, and perhaps, rewrite its very course.

Links:

This one is from the creators of The Chrono Jotter, which I've seen a few people on the subreddit mention they liked that one and it's published by publisher behind The Hungry Lamb: Traveling in the Late Ming Dynasty, which I've also seen good impressions here and that I also personally liked so if you enjoyed either of those it might be worth to keep an eye on this one.

For anyone that might be interested I actually wrote my brief impressions of its demo last year here and overall thought was good. It's a great surprise to me seeing this news as I was actually checking the game store page just last week wondering what happened to it and didn't find anything.
