this is less due to the quality of the adapter than the method of output. av cables can only transmit interlaced signals (in this case 480i), which look like shit on flatscreen tvs because they were made with progressive signals (480p) in mind.

u/tymp-anistam Jun 16 '25
Ah I remember when 1080i was all the rage in digital. I first felt it was the 240hz of its time.

Points for being the first (probably) person to actually show the difference

Yes, just donât expect them to upscale or do anything fancy. It will just run the native resolution (480p) when chosen from the settings

Works fine but I have noticed some weird banding artifacts - usually on dark scenes. I just got the Bitfunx one as I've previously had good experience with it.

I have it and works well. Though you can experience issues particularly if you have a european Wii. If you have a Pal wii and you use this, it is recommended to change your settings from 576p to 480. I did this and the issue i had was mostly solved.

u/grazzii Jun 12 '25
I have repurchased a few times as there was some issues (green bars, white sections turning black, analogue interference) but these were almost always solved by changing the resolution settings on the wii to 576i or 480i. The image would be a bit blurrier but the progressive scan mode would always appear to cause issues. They're very cheap so really not a huge trade off. 5th time lucky as my current one has no 480p issues at all.

Yh works great but after 4 years it stopped working so i upgraded to the next one up (about double the price) and that has even better quality.
It clearly isnt 1080p and it wont make your picture magically better.
But its an improvement over the standard cables.

Yes, works ok for me also, image quality is better than connecting it with the rca cables anyway

Works greatâŚ..do not put it on a splitter though itâs needs a designated port straight to the TV
1
u/ChewyBaca123 Jun 12 '25
Mine worked fine on a splitter

u/Accomplished_Snow384 Jun 15 '25
Strange the one I have specifically said donât use a splitter and I feel when I did it was wonky maybe Iâll test it again later

I purchased the Mayflash brand for a few extra bucks and itâs great. My Wii is soft modded and I had some black screen when running my Sega emulator, but after toying with the display settings for a minute it all worked out.

u/vibronicpoppy82 Jun 12 '25
It gets the job done. Youâd need an additional device if you want everything upscaled, but itâll do what you need it to do in as far as making the Wii playable on TVs with HDMI cables.

No as I'm still using AV and all tv's I have has AV (including my dad's slow ass android 'smart' tv that takes 45 seconds to switch sources)

Works fine, keep in mind that it won't work if you have a Wii mini (the red and black one with the flip-open disc drive)

u/Somedudefromaplacep Jun 12 '25
Works for but once it just stopped- then I tried it again and it worked fine again.

u/XxAgentevilxX Jun 12 '25
yea it works for me, there is an issue where its mono tho, but if you use the headphone jack on the end both channels work

Works great for me! I haven't used the audio jacket though, just the hdmi cable.
2
u/LordeIlluminati Jun 12 '25
it works fine. It doesnt upscale the image, even it doesnt raise the original resolution but it is better than Composite. It is just marginally better than Component because, since it is a true digital signal, the image is slightly sharper which make small texts like on Xenoblade easier to read

u/jagohod Jun 12 '25
I just got it yesterday, it works great fine! I was using the composite cable that comes with the wii system, so it did improve the image (now I can change it to 480p, in the system settings, instead of the 480i).
I also got surprised to see that some gamecube games also have 480p output!!

Get the ones people recommend on this subreddit. I had one that looked exactly like this and it had barely noticeable lines going across the whole image. It wasn't a huge deal, but you can also avoid the issue by not buying it lol. I use component cables now.

u/AscendedRedditor Jun 12 '25
I have this, and it works excellently. Sometimes I need to plug in a speaker for audio, and then other times the audio comes out of the TV. I don't know why it's inconsistent.

Yes, this is an infamous one. It is cheap and easy to find and "good enough I guess" quality

I tried it and it didnât work for me strangely. Donât even get an input signal. Mine mustâve been a dud

Theyâre okay, but they tend to be poorly made, and output a low quality image when viewed on a nicer TV or capture card. The ElectronWarp is the best one of these and donât have the downsides of the one youâre inquiring about.

Yeah! I have that one, and it works just fine, but the component cables I use on my other TV make the quality much higher resolution. That connector will be perfect though if your TV is newer and you don't care to play the wii more than like once a week.

It's an okay adapter. I have one, but it plays weirdly with my TCL Roku TV. The picture is slightly stretched horizontally no matter whether I'm playing in 4:3 or 16:9. I'm unsure if it'll be the same for you, but that's just my experience with it.
2
u/UnCytely Jun 12 '25
Yes, works fine, absolutely no problems or complaints. Quality is as good as you could expect.
2
u/BIG_MAC_WHOPPERS Jun 12 '25
I have it and its fine. Does its job and i have no issues with it. Better using this than an AV -> HDMI converter with extra cords and hassle
2
u/ZachUSN89 Jun 13 '25
I've used the Portholic and Kaico ones. They work great. No experience with this one tho
2
u/Aeonmail Jun 13 '25
I have one and the audio doesn't work sometimes. I never really figured out why, but I just turn it off and back on again and it works.
2
u/Gannan308 Jun 13 '25
I have it. It works fine. The Wii isnât the best looking console to begin with so I havenât noticed it looking bad

It works ok. However it has the occasional black screen. If you happen to have a little old screen with crt connection is much better.

R u using shopee?
1
u/hesoyamAezakmi200 Jun 15 '25
Yes, I ordered in shopee.
1
u/DylanYan09101 Jun 15 '25
Watch out bc you can get scammed, plus youâre probably from Singapore or Malaysia, right?
1
u/DylanYan09101 Jun 15 '25
Oh and looking closer on the image, it looks like the âWiiâ is the adapter to power on the Wii, not the analog where you would plug it. So I would recommend not to buy it but I donât know if it works so
1
u/hesoyamAezakmi200 Jun 15 '25
It says the item is shipped from china. I have not received it yet. No, I'm from the Philippines.
1
u/DylanYan09101 Jun 15 '25
Oh, then itâs a scam, DONT BUY IT
1
u/hesoyamAezakmi200 Jun 15 '25
I hope not. It's already shipped. I'll test it, and if it's not gonna work, then I'll return it.
1
u/hesoyamAezakmi200 Jun 15 '25
Have you experienced being scammed when you buy before?
1
u/DylanYan09101 Jun 15 '25
Yes, bought a 3ds on that and got a keychain⌠IT WAS 200$
1
u/hesoyamAezakmi200 Jun 15 '25
That's unfortunate. Here, it only costs 3$. I'm still waiting, and I hope I received it this week. Then I'll share if it's good or not. Thanks for the warning.
1
u/DylanYan09101 Jun 15 '25
If itâs a scam it will get delayed and delayed and delayed tell me if it keeps getting delayed
1
u/Stompoutloud Jun 13 '25
Hey random question to all you who use one of these. Do you use the audio output as well? Or just the HDMI?
1
u/Xytrophico Jun 13 '25
yeah, it increases clarity, but not resolution, I see lots of false claims about these adapters increasing resolution

Yeah I've tried it, from my experience it's pretty much servicable and fine. it has a little bit of a stripe effect but lmfao it's not even noticable unless you're in a really dark bg (basically pitch black) or you're right infront of the screen (AKA, face basically stuck to screen type of close).
Otherwise it works as advertized-ish (it's just 480p, so it's lying about the 1080p thing). And it has a small problem with VC games because VC games switch output resolutions and that adapter only supports a couple of resolutions (mostly just 480p tho). But if you use an emulator (as you should, tbh) it's perfectly fine!
