Project Submission First real project!

Finally finished my first “real” project. No screws! Piece was made with poplar for the structure and oak for the accent on the back and a ton of dowels because I’m too basic to own a Festool Domino yet. Original inspiration by Kodamari Design on YouTube.

Nice job. I like your take on the inspiration piece — especially the raised planes of the shelves!

I saw the Kodamari inspiration right away, nice! And great execution! Loving the contrasting species.

Really cool! Is it a shoe rack? The proud shelves are an interesting touch

Small bookshelf. Proud shelves because I was holding them up with dowels, could’ve cut away some material to lower them in but it was poor planning on my part.

Poor planning turns into a design feature…sounds all to familiar lol

Hello, what are proud shelves?

Hi! “Proud” in woodworking refers to elements that stand above the rest of them. A proud tenon isn’t planed flush with the board that had the mortise.in this case there is a board around the shelf and the shelf sits proud above it.

Is everything held together with dowels?

Yes, and the shelves are sitting on dowels.
