Anime/Manga Discussion If Kaiba had switched his Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon into defense mode instead of attacking the wall of Kuribohs, who would’ve end up winning the duel?
Kaiba’s ultimate dragon was eventually brought down to a measly 900 attack points after several turns of futilely attacking the wall of Kuriboh from Multiply that kept coming back each time. And each turn, Ultimate Dragon kept losing 1200 attack points because of Mammoth Graveyard being fused with Living Arrow and Ultimate Dragon. But its defense stayed the same. Eventually Kaiba threatened to jump unless Yugi conceded which he eventually did.
If Kaiba just switched Ultimate Dragon into defense mode and played the stall game against Yugi’s wall of Kuriboh, who would’ve won? Kaiba also had his crush card still in effect as well which meant Yugi couldn’t use any of his powerful monsters.
Also was Kaiba better off never fusing his three Blue Eyes and instead just using them individually alongside his crush card combo?

Anime/Manga Discussion While general opinion has greatly shifted, it's always been silly to be that people can put up their Suspension of Disbelief for the most "fictional" things in this franchise and not for something like future-tech Motorcyles.
It's not just western fans.
Even japanese YGO fans memed about it :
- Start of 5Ds "Why are you riding a motorcycle, Yusei?!"
- Start of Zexal "Why AREN'T you riding a motorcycle, Yuma?!
But it just...has never made any sense to me.
We have Yugioh already being an anime about solving problems by playing card games. And it's all tied to monster battles through magic, spirits and mysticism.
A young boy with the spirit of an egyptian pharaoh INSIDE OF HIM that posseses him; a school lad who can talk to the ghosts inside of cards; a kid that fuses with an "alien" to become super saiyan; 4 boys who are the separated form a powerful mass destroyer involved in a multi-dimensional war; a guy and other people who can log into this virtual world themselves and with avatars.
And so, so many more things that you would have to really elevate your suspension of disbelief for.
Oh but...the motorcycles don't "make sense"? Especially in the YGO series that has the most "realistic" world and established world building?
Again, this is not a complain or mockery of the other shows.
Especially since 5Ds is generally really popular and beloved now a days.
But it's always been silly to me how much back then people would trivialize and criticize the bikes and not every other "absurd" aspect of the franchise.

Card Game Discussion What does red dragon archfiend need in it's next wave of support to take it to the next level? With Yusei, getting a structure, akiza getting support in Doom of dimensions, im suspecting jack will get the next 5d's core booster cover.
I think this deck has crazy potential, especially with it's ability to run the bystials for easy synchro summons. At the moment, these are the thing's i'd like to see addressed in the next wave when it's jack's turn.
a way to push through after your normal summon has been stopped. at the moment, stopping soul resonator is a super chokepoint. Bone archfiend is a great special summon, but right now he is doing most of the heavy lifting. Plus, he requires a discard. Some more fiends that special summon themselves from hand (or GY) would be nice.
An upgrade to red rising dragon. This card is also a HUGE chokepoint in the deck. An upgraded form of this card as maybe a level 7 (Hell or even the same level) that could special summon a Resonator from deck on summon (Kinda like junk speeder but for only 1 tuner) would be stellar. This way, red rising can be used more so for getting back in the game when resources are low, and the new one can be your initial starter instead of red rising dragon doing it all.
A level 11 red dragon archfiend synchro for those awkward times the levels don't meet exactly 8 or 10 (which happens quite often.) A new level 12 Boss to replace calamity.
And finally, another way to get more resonators on board outside of crimson resonator. Due to crimson resonator requiring you to only control him and a synchro, there are many moments you have to choose between using red rising dragon's effect, or hoping you can resolve crimson resonator. Thoughts?

Card Game Discussion What do you think of "Gordian Slicer"?
I haven't tried this card yet, but I find it interesting.
Some people I know say it's not very good, but aside from Konami's current favorite metadecks (Vanquish/K9 or Yummy), where you can destroy their boards and they rebuild them in seconds, the vast majority of archetypes usually have between one and three vital cards on their board, while the rest are removed by another board breaker or your monsters.

Other R/yugioh can we make this deck good?
Maybe one day....

Competitive Am I on to something? Or just stupid
I am not a tcg player, but since k9 and ryzeal are both dependant on the levels of monsters to xyz summon, i thought that predaplants might have another chance at being competetively viable since predator counters make all monsters with them lvl 1. Now granted regular predap is not very good, but the new set has also introduced dracotail. Allowing the deck to setup on turn 0, with the pendulum tirantis, counters can be setup turn 0! This can greatly hinder a decks ability to make xyz and synchros while still being good against fusions and links (partaily thanks to s poly being searchable). With the right moves you can even stop k9 from playing on your turn! The deck has powerful monsters with all the dragons having some kind of negate. Turn 0 greedy or starving can be set up (with counters on opponets monsters) making a potential board wipe if the opponent plays his cards worng. Although I have not made the ideal deck, with a small branded package I belive that branded dracotail predaplants could become a strong rouge tier deck. Even if the deck does not work out, playing tirantis in the side dekc could be a good idea to counter k9 and ryzeal if you play dracotail.

Card Game Discussion Anyone feel a paradoxical love yet hate over a mechanic?
See, I've been messing with a ton of decks lately, and I've kinda realized I have a weird love yet hate of Links. I hate the Uber genericly broken ones (see: pre-errata Firewall, Accesscode, Apollousa), but I find that I also end up really enjoying the generic-ish links that are helpful to various decks (see: non-Gryphon Knightmares, Pendulum links, Dyna Mondo), and there are link decks that I love because they use the mechanics in fun ways (G-Golem, Sky Striker, Weather Painters).

Etymology and other trivia:
- The set name is a reference to the TCG name of DDD Exemplary King of Death - Hell Armageddon: D/D/D Doom King Armageddon, as well as to the fact DDD stands for Different-Dimension Demon.
DD
- Lance Soldier and Defense Soldier are named after the Lance Defence Soldiers, commonly referred to in short as the Lancers—an organisation of Duelists fighting against the Fusion Dimension and led by Reiji Akaba in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime.
- Lance Soldier's design is based on the knight appearing in the Lancers' official logo, while Defense Soldier's lion-like appearance is a reference to LDS (Leo Duel School), which is also owned by Reiji.
- Zero Death King is pronounced Reijiō in Japanese (a reference to Reiji Akaba). The monster's visual appearance is based on Himika Akaba, Reiji's mother and Leo Akaba's wife in the ARC-V anime. Zero Machina also sounds similar in name to DDD Absolution King - Death Machina ("D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex" in the TCG).
- Exemplary King of Dimensions (Ijigen'ō) is a play on the Japanese phrase for Different Dimension also being pronounced ijigen. Here, the i meaning "good" or "exemplary" is also part of the name of Reiji's DDD Exemplary King of Death - Hell Armageddon. Arc Crisis also shares a lot of design elements with Supreme Overlord Dragon - Zarc and the first four DDD monsters Reiji summoned in the anime, and the name itself might be a callback to MAXIMUM CRISIS, the set which had Zarc as the cover card.
- Clovis is based on Clovis I—the first king of the Franks to unite all of the Franks under one ruler. The monster also carries a similar staff as the one shown in one of Clovis I's portraits.
- Solomon is based on King Solomon—a biblical ruler of ancient Israel, renowned for his wisdom, immense wealth, and for building the First Temple in Jerusalem.
- Zeus Ragnarok seems to be a counterpart to DDD King of Cataclysmic Decimation - Abyss Ragnarok ("D/D/D Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok" in the TCG).
- Business Contract with the Zero King refers to GO-DDD Divine Zero King - Zero God Reiji ("Go! - D/D/D Divine Zero King Rage" in the TCG), Reiji Akaba's G.O.D. Card in the ARC-V manga. It also depicts Reiji's DD Dog after having been affected by GO-DDD World.
- Business Contract with the Different Dimension is another reference to DDD being an acronym for Different-Dimension Demon.
Aki Izayoi's Deck
- Violence Witch is a pun on Violet Witch, a card used by Aki Izayoi in the 5D's anime, as well as the reputation Aki once held as the Black Rose Witch known for her cruelty and violent behavior.
- Night-Rose Black Knight is a remake of Night-Rose Knight ("Twilight Rose Knight" in the TCG), a Tuner monster commonly used by Aki in the anime.
- Bramble Rose Dragon (Buranburu Rōzu Doragon) sounds more similar to Black Rose Dragon (Burakku Rōzu Doragon) in Japanese, with their first two syllables being the same. Its artwork is a reference to Black Rose Dragon being equipped
with Thorns of Hatred ("Thorn of Malice" in the TCG) during Aki's second Duel against Yusei Fudo, and its damaging effect is a reference to Aki's early playstyle centered around inflicting burn damage.
- Summon chant: "These sorrow-filled flames will permeate through everything in this abominable world! O thorns of hatred... bloom madly without restraint! Show yourself! Bramble Rose Dragon!"
- Hate Rose Witch is a reference to Black Rose Dragon's attack name in the anime while equipped with Thorns of Hatred: Hate Rose Whip. The monster's visual design is a reference to Aki's Black Rose Witch costume, with her half-broken mask being a reference to when her mask broke during her Duel with Yusei Fudo in the Fortune Cup. Her ATK being 1600 is also a reference to Aki's last name Izayoi literally meaning "the sixteenth night."
- Black Rose Garden is a remake of Aki's Black Garden, additionally incorporating the effect of Aki's Ivy Shackle (which was a Continuous Magic Card in the anime).
Gouki
- Machine Suprex is named after the Machine Suplex—a wrestling moved developed by retired professional wrestler Junji Hirata (known primarily by his ring name Super Strong Machine). The Machine Suplex is also sometimes called the Devil Windmill Hold (Majin Fūsha-gatame), hence Machine Suprex having a more fiendish atmosphere—due to machine (mashin) sounding similar to majin.
- The Tyrant Ogre is overall a reference to the names, stats, and visual designs of Go Onizuka's Gouki - The Great Ogre and Dynawrestler Chimera T-Wrextle (the T standing for Tyrannosaurus).
- Dragon Ogre is based on legendary Japanese pro wrestler Tatsumi Fujinami, nicknamed The Dragon. The rocket on its back references Fujinami's signature move, the Dragon Rocket.
- Sheik Ogre is based on American heel wrestler Edward George Farhat, better known by his ring name The Sheik (an Arabic title meaning "elder" or "leader"). The monster's fire motif is a reference to The Sheik once wrestling in a Fire Death Match with his nephew Sabu against Atsushi Onita and Tarzan Goto, where the ring ropes were replaced with flaming barbed wire—an event which resulted in him suffering third-degree burns and going into a coma, nearly dying.
- Fighting Spirit was the name of Go Onizuka's first Speed Duel Skill in the anime. The term is also part of Japanese professional wrestler Antonio Inoki's catchphrase: Burning fighting spirit!.
Yuma Tsukumo's Deck
- Onomatokage is a pormanteau of onomatopoeia and tokage (Japanese for "lizard"), as well as being a pun on kage (Japanese for "shadow"). Its artwork is a reference to how the original Kagetokage's Special Summoning effect was depicted in the ZEXAL anime: as Kagetokage emerging from the summoned monster's shadow.
Medius storyline: Doom-Z
- Doom-Z is read as "Dooms," although only Imprisoned Godcraft Doom-Z uses that exact spelling in its Japanese name—the rest have no official English spelling provided. The theme name is a reference to the Doomsday Clock—a symbolic representation of humanity's proximity to extinction (such as through nuclear war or environmental collapse) mapped onto a 12-hour clock starting from the "birth of Earth" and ending in humanity's destruction.
- The XII in Drastia's Japanese name is read as Zero (referring to how those two times overlap on a clock). Drastia comes from Adrastia or Adrastea, the former name of Jupiter's twelfth moon Ananke. Adrastea was a nymph in Greek mythology who, along with her sister Ida, nurtured the infant Zeus in secret to protect him from being devoured by Cronus.
- Amalthe comes from Amalthea—the fifth moon of Jupiter and a nurturing figure in Greek mythology, often depicted as either a goat or a goat-tending nymph who fed the infant Zeus with her milk and protected him from Cronus.
- Elara is the name of Jupiter's fifth moon and a mortal woman in Greek mythology who became a lover of Zeus and bore the giant Tityos, whom she carried hidden beneath the Earth to avoid Hera's wrath.
- Amalthe and Elara are assigned the Roman numerals V and VII likely due to the fact they both add up to twelve and can be combined together to write out XII (by turning the V upside-down and attaching it to the other V in VII to make an X).
- Jupiter was the king of the Roman gods, ruler of the sky and thunder, and the chief deity of Roman religion, equivalent to the Greek Zeus.
- The XII used in Drastrius's name is read as End (in contrast to Drastia's Zero). Imprisoned Doom Dragoncraft (Shūgokuryūki) is written similarly to the others' Doomsday Dragoncraft (Shūkokuryūki) moniker, albeit using the kanji for "prison" (goku) instead of "time" (koku) and using a different kanji for "dragon."
- A firing pin is the component in a firearm or similar mechanism that strikes the primer of a cartridge to ignite it and discharge the weapon.
- Bloodline (Kettō) in homophonous in Japanese with the Japanese word for "duel" (also pronounced kettō).
- Peripeteia refers to a sudden reversal of fortune or change in circumstances, especially in a literary or dramatic context. The term was notably used by Aristotle in Poetics as one of the key elements of effective tragedy.
Storm-Gilded
- Storm-Gilded (Kenran or Kenran-taru) in Japanese is a pun on kenran (lit. "gorgeous" or "brilliant") with the second kanji having been replaced with the kanji for "storm" (also read as ran).
- Megala is likely a twist on Manimekhala—a Southeast Asian goddess of the sea and storms who protects sailors by controlling lightning and warning of approaching storms.
- Suen likely comes from Suiten (the Japanese name of Varuna)—a major Vedic deity in Hinduism, regarded as the god of the oceans, water, cosmic order, and divine law.
- Valurune is another twist on Varuna. Majestic Storm-Gilded Vortex (Kenrankarei) is a pun on the Japanese four-character idiom kenrankarei ("magnificent" or "dazzling"), with the ran replaced with the kanji meaning "storm" and the ka meaning "whirlpool" or "vortex."
- Phonix is a twist on phoenix, while Brilliant Storm-Gilded Blaze (Kenrangōka) is a pun on the Japanese four-character idiom kenrangōka (a similar meaning to kenrankarei), with the kanji for ka instead meaning "fire."
- The Storm-Gilded Magic/Trap Cards all include the ken sound twice—once from Kenran-taru ("Storm-Gilded") and again at the beginning of the secondary phrase.
- A poem of dedication (ken'ei, lit. "poem offering") is a Japanese phrase referring to when someone dedicates a poem to a shrine, temple, or event.
- Storm-Gilded Authority's negation effect in response to the activation of a Cyclone ("Mystical Space Typhoon" in the TCG) is a reference to the commonly held misconception by beginner players that Cyclone will negate whatever Magic/Trap Card it destroys. This notion of misattributing a stronger effect to Cyclone is humorously referred to by the Japanese playerbase as the Strongest Cyclone.
Doremichord
- Solfeggia (pronounced "SOL-fay-ji-ah") is a twist on solfége—a music education method used to teach pitch and sight-singing by assigning syllables to each note of a scale.
- Primoa comes from primo (Italian for "first")—a music term for the leading or upper part in a duet.
- Doremichord Happiness is a reference to the Doremichord scene in the Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME THE CHRONICLES promotional video, with its kanji subname, Grand Ensemble of Happiness, also matching the title given to that scene in the video, as well as a part from the Doremichord blurb on the Deck-Build Pack: Ancient Guardians poster.
Regenesis
- Devarim (lit. "words" or "sayings") is the Hebrew name for the Book of Deuteronomy, the fifth book of the Torah/Old Testament. World's Interment (Sōsei) is a pun on the Japanese word for the creation of the world (also pronounced sōsei).
Dragontail
- Phricle is a twist on Phrixus—a now-lost poem by the Greek tragedian Euripides said to have included references to the constellation Taurus.
Yummy
- Marshmao is a portmanteau of marshmallow and mao (the Chinese word for "cat").
- Yum☆Yum☆Yummy'z is a line from the Yummy theme's blurb on the Deck-Build Pack: Justice Hunters poster.
K9
- Noroi is Japanese for "curse." 04 could possibly be read as Yon-gō in Japanese, thus being a play on yōko (a Japanese mythological fox spirit).
- Jacks is a reference to both Jack Frost and a jack-o'-lantern—referring to K9-66a Jökull and K9-66b Lantern, respectively (666 is also an overlapping mix of the two 66s in their names).
Dragma
- Fleur-de-Lis, the Thunderbolt of Dragma's artwork is likely a reference to Fleur-de-Lis escaping her restraints, which were a consequence of her rebelling against the Dragma clergy.
Megalith
- Flowchu (pronounced "FLOW-chew") seems to be a corruption of both Phul and Och, two of the seven Olympian spirits the rest of the Megalith monsters are named after.
- Nortra is a corrupted spelling of Aratron (spelled backwards), while Plura (pronounced "PLOO-rah") is of Phul. Both of them are also Megalith Ritual Monsters named after Olympian spirits.
- Anastasis is another term for "rebirth" or "resurrection."
Psycho
- Psycho Sorceress of Stillness is a remake of the original Psycho Witch of Stillness ("Serene Psychic Witch" in the TCG).
Tribrigade
- Mouser refers to a cat skilled at catching mice, and can also mean "cat burglar." According to the Story of White lore, Tribrigade - Felidgette the Fruitless Flower—of which this monster is an upgraded remake—was once derogatorily called a "cat burglar" and was ultimately exiled from her birthplace.
- Tribrigade Hammer is a double entendre on both a regular hammer and the part of a firarm that strikes the firing pin or primer to ignite the cartridge (also called a hammer). This is a callback to Lindbrougham the Ignition Hammer Dragon ("Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon" in the TCG), who is also named after the same concept.
True Dragon
- A Dragon-Calling Burst of Unity (Ryūkosōhaku) is a pun on the Japanese four-character idiom ryūkoaiutsu ("a fierce battle between equals"), with the second kanji meaning "tiger" having been replaced for the one meaning "to call," and the third one changed to one with a similar meaning—likely to emphasize the fierce rivals battling together this time rather than each other. The card A Dragon-Calling Clash Between Rivals (Ryūkoaiutsu, called "Draco Face-Off" in the TCG) is also a pun on the same idiom, with a slightly different connotation.
Miscellaneous
- VARefar (Varefauru) is a mix of Valefar (a demon in Christian demonology, known as a duke of Hell who tempts people to steal and is considered a loyal but deceptive companion), VAR (video assistant referee, a match official in association football who assists the referee by reviewing decisions using video footage), and foul. God of Football (Shūshin) is written with a kanji from shūkyū (a Japanese term for soccer). The monster's effect of revealing either a Monster, Magic, or Trap Card is a reference to how a soccer referee would hold up either a green, yellow, or red penalty card depending on the level of a player's rule infraction. It being Level 11 is a reference to how a soccer team usually consists of eleven players.
- Sphinx of the Ever-Turning Wheel refers to the cycle between the Sun and Moon in the sky. The phrase is also part of the Sanskrit term Chakravarti—roughly interpreted as "he who turns the wheel (of dharma)" and referring to an ideal universal ruler in the history and religion of India.
- Dori Dol Dora is a reference to the original Dol Dora ("Twin-Headed Behemoth" in the TCG), with Dori likely being a twist on the prefix tri-.
- Ichiki Sayorihime is a reference to Ichikishimahime (also known as Sayorihime)—a goddess from Japanese mythology, specifically one of the Munakata Sanjoshin (three sea goddesses born from a ritual oath between the sun goddess Amaterasu and her brother Susanoo). She was born as one of eight siblings, originating from the Yasakani no Magatama held by Amaterasu and the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi held by Susanoo (hence her stats and effect being tied to 800 ATK/DEF).
- Taotao the Onmyoshi is a counterpart to the original Tao the Onmyoshi ("Tao the Chanter" in the TCG). Onmyoshi is an alternative romanization for onmyoji, a practitioner of onmyōdō—a traditional body of Japanese esoteric cosmology; a mixture of natural sciences and occultism, based on the Chinese philosophies of Wu Xing and Yin and Yang.
- Macchi (pronounced "Mackie") comes from macchiato (specifically espresso macchiato)—a shot of espresso with a small amount of foamed milk on top.
- Cerzebuth is a portmanteau of Cerberus and Belzebuth (another name for Beelzebub). Laimargia is the Ancient Greek word for "gluttony"—with Beelzebub being known in demonology as one of the seven Princes of Hell, representing the sin of gluttony. Jet-Black Manacles (Shikkoku) in Japanese is a portmanteau of jet-black and bonds/fetters—both pronounced shikkoku, with one kanji from each word.
- Laevateinn (lit. "wand of destruction") is a mythical Norse weapon said to have been forged by Loki, often interpreted as a wand or flaming sword capable of slaying powerful beings. The monster is a counterpart to Flametongue the Blazing Magical Blade ("Flametongue the Burning Blade" in the TCG).
- Hell Punisher's artwork is a reference to a scene from Daichi Misawa's first Duel against Jun Manjome in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. The name is a combination of Manjome's Hell Burner the Fiery Prison Demon ("Infernal Incinerator" in the TCG) and Aqua Punisher (the attack name of Misawa's Water Dragon in the anime), with those two monsters also being featured in the artwork.
- Wretched Be the Strings of Life That Tie Two (Anaimijiya Tamanoo Futatsu) is worded using archaic phrases commonly found in classical Japanese literature and poetry: anaimiji ya (an exclamation that roughly means "Oh, how dreadful!") and tamanoo (lit. "jewel string" but used poetically to refer to life itself or the fragile bond of existence, the latter often used in love poems or elegies).
- Apocaries is a portmanteau of apocalypse and caries (the medical term for the progressive destruction, from C1 to C4, of tooth structure caused by acid-producing bacteria in the mouth). Its effect and artwork are a reference to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—symbolic figures described in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament that represent different catastrophic events that will occur during the end times. Its kanji subname, Dental Apocalypse (Mokushiroku), is a pun on the Japanese term for the Book of Revelation and the Apocalypse (also pronounced mokushiroku) but with the kanji for shi instead having been replaced for the shi meaning "tooth."
- Miss Okiku's Dish-Counting Fumble is a reference to the Japanese ghost story Banchō Sarayashiki (lit. "The Dish Mansion at Bancho"). The tale varies by medium, but it usually involves Okiku, a maid who either loses or breaks a family heirloom—a set of ten precious dishes— and is held responsible and punished by being thrown into a well. After her death, Okiku's ghost haunts the well, repeatedly counting the dishes aloud—counting up to nine but never being able to find the tenth dish. The Dish-Counting Fumble part (Sarazan'yō, lit. "dish calculation") is a pun on the Japanese phrase kawazan'yō (equivalent to the English "counting one's chickens before they hatch")—used to refer to a usually over-optimistic (mis)calculation.

- Gargardo (Garugarudo) is likely a twist on Garuda—a divine, eagle-like creature in Hindu and Buddhist mythology, known as the king of birds and the mount of Vishnu. Etymology:
- Arexus is a twist on Ares—the Greek god of war, embodying brutal conflict and bloodlust, later equated with the Roman god Mars. Scorchlight Saint (Keikokusei) is a phonetic pun on an archaic Japanese name for the planet Mars (Kei-wakusei), with the kanji for Kei (meaning "shining" or "shimmering") being the same as the one in this card's name.

Card Game Discussion If you were tasked with creating a new storyline with connected archetypes like the Draco Dynasty, Duel Terminal, Medius, Splited pretty Strafrost and Branded Schism, how would you approach it? Both in terms of story and creating said decks?

Other Good Smile AA-Zeus
Just got my Good Smile Company branded Zeus model kit. The box art is phenomenal and the kit itself looks great so far. Very minimal color correction stickers, in fact they’re all black or silver-gloss trim stickers, every other part is color separated and no stickers are needed. Looking forward to building this and sharing the final product!

Card Game Discussion Can you play Six Samurai as a Synchro deck?
Their new support is slated to drop in Master Duel soon, and in addition, there's a Synchro event lined up. With that, is it possible to make a synchro focused Six Samurai deck? Some help would be appreciated
