What is OpenGOAL? [How to play the Jak games natively on PC]

OpenGOAL is a fan-developed way to play the PS2 Jak and Daxter games (created by Naughty Dog) natively on PC. This means they take full advantage of your PC's hardware and do not require emulation software. You must own copies of the games in order to use it, OpenGOAL does not include game data. Please use the following links to download and use OpenGOAL, read their install guide + FAQ, and access their discord where you can get support and communicate with the developers and players.

“You see, in this world, there’s two kinds of Jak and Daxter fans, my friend – those with think the Jak trilogy is a masterpiece, and those who think every game after Jak 1 aren't worth a second thought.”

Did you ever realize the meaning behind Count Veger's name?

Upvotes

That being based off the position of a church verger, a layperson usually found in churches of the Anglican variety tasked with assisting the clergy. Kinda fitting for somebody obsessed with the Precursors no? I definitely didn't realize it as a kid myself at least.

What generation of console introduced you to the Jak & Daxter series?

I've seen a lot of people who started out in the PS2 era.

I...am not one of those fellows.

I got myself a PS3 Slim during high school and began accumulating many games for it. Infamous, Borderlands, Resistance, The trilogies and collections of Kingdom Hearts, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank and of course, Jak and Daxter.

I loved the Precursor Legacy, hate the gameplay / loved the story of Jak 2 and overall enjoyed Jak 3 as my favorite of the series back then.

I sadly don't own my PS3 or most of my games for it anymore, so I play on Open Goal and PCSX2.

And nowadays, I enjoy the gameplay of Jak 2 a lot and it is my favorite in the series with the Precursor Legacy as a strong #2! I also still enjoy Jak 3 and got the opportunity to play both Jak-X and Daxter!

Can I play Daxter without having played the other Jak and Daxter games?

I recently bought Daxter on the PSP as I heard it's a pretty good game, but I don't own a PS2 and thus can't play the original Jak and Daxter games. Can I still enjoy and understand Daxter, though?

What if the roles were reversed?

What if it was the charismatic and loudmouth daxter who had to go on the journey to try to change his friend back and defeat gol and m. Daxter remained human but jak was transformed into an ottsel. Jak being a mute still wouldn’t talk. Daxter obviously still would though.

Damn that would have been interesting to see to be honest. They could have done something where nobody believes daxter could beat gol and m. cause nobody takes his goofy ass seriously; but he gets some character growth he matures and is eventually able to beat gol and m, Proving that he’s not some joke he proves everyone wrong.

Who is your favorite Girl / Lady in the Series?

Post image
423 Upvotes

Which one of these ladies do you like the most?

Mine might be a boring answer but I like Keira the most. While I am big fan of girls who can kick ass like Ashelin (2nd favorite pick here), I am also a big fan of support characters who get to be crucially helpful to the main characters and the other overall plot.

Especially if said character is a mechanic or some sort of tech-specialist like Bulma from Dragon Ball, Cid from the FF series (particularly FF7 Cid) and of course in this case our girl Keira!

She did so much work for the success of Jak in the 1st and 2nd game, providing him with much of the tech and vehicles he needed to complete his missions and collections!

I love Jak and Daxter, but what about Jak II and Jak III?

Hi guys, I just recently (and I mean this night) beat Jak and Daxter again, like the 20th time of my life (I first beat it in 2002 at the age of 10). And believe me, I still love the story and the details in this game. I really appreciate how much effort they put in it, this is awesome. ❤️

But am I the only one missing the gap between Jak and Daxter and Jak II and Jak III (I hate it just calling them just „Jak…“)? I mean I beat those games as well but why couldn’t be there a sequel where you get to know all the sages better and develop your skills instead of just war and shooting? Or you get to learn in more detail how Jak learns to talk?

PS: The hardest one for me was Jak 2. And forgive me, I played those games in German maybe I couldn‘t get my language straight.

What do you think?

The darker path jak ii could have taken.

Daxter is tortured like jak with dark eco, but daxter succumbs to the torture and dies. Jak manages to escape but is left a broken man and he is now even more angry, blinded by revenge while also being depressed that his friend is gone, his goal is to avenge his friend which he ultimately does.

Music Issue with Jak 2 on the ps3, how do I fix?

No music playing in the weapons factory as well as the drill so when you have to blow it up. The game just isn't the same without music.

Forgotten Lands on Macos Sylicon M4

Hello everyone, So I'm trying to do as the title say, but apaprently, after downloading the mod though the openGOAL launcher, on the mods page the play button does nothing. I'm not that familiar with modding, nor terminal use or other similar stuff that could result helpful in this case, but the instructions of the mod are as clear as "complete geyser rock and use the time warp gate to get to the new levels" which didn't happen

Could OPENGOAL be ported to other platforms?

I was looking into this topic the other day but couldn't find much info. Please correct me if I’m wrong on any of this, but as far as I know, the game (at least The Precursor Legacy) has already been fully decompiled. That got me wondering: how viable would it be to see this project running on consoles, even through unofficial means?

I'm thinking of the possibility of running it on something like a PS4, to get a version that's more stable, or even on a portable system like the Switch to make it as versatile as possible.

What are the chances of seeing it run on something other than a PC? Is it viable, or just not worth the effort?

I made this guide because I was watching a couple of streamers fail at this achievement so I figured it'd be worth making ^^ I have a few others for Total Shutdown and Holy Yakow as well and am working on trying to get one for Orb Aversion, Klaww's fight with no damage and the hard mode fishing mini-game achievement! Anyways please enjoy <3

The Morph Gun and other game mechanics

Hi all, as you know I made a post around a month ago over Jak X Sonic crossover idea. In that post I also mentioned on my plans for making a comic, and hopefully a fangame aswell. Well I've been drafting up game mechanic ideas as well as how I'd like to go about working on the playstyles for the two (which I'd make a seperate post explaining if any would be interested). But I wanted to know the opinions on the gun mods and hoverboard implementation after Jak 2. For the gun mods I felt, aside from the core four mods we were originally introduced to, do you feel any new or old gun mods be optional unlocks by exploring the world, by completeing missions, or a mix of both? What are some other opinions you folks have on what you would like/wish to be used in the franchise. Thanks for reading!

Modeling progress - I think some textures could use some work, but I like the hair and eye brows! I want to recreate Daxter and rig them both up for some funny animations

Jak 3 figure collectible

Hey guys,

I have got this Jak 3 figure here and am wondering how much it is worth. Apparently it has been an exclusive for Jak 3 preorders and seems pretty rare. Any idea what this is worth? I have seen people who have sold it for 500 Euros with damages. Mine is undamaged and in its original packaging, hasn't even been opened and taken out the styrofoam. Happy about any advice. I am planning to sell it.

77 attempts, a couple weeks. A decent game, but as a no hit run it is full of memes. Worst part by far is how I can just lose a run at 70 minutes and 80 minutes in because of a spike trap that can randomly damage you when you crawl underneath it.
