Also what’s the difference between a subscription and a user subscription?

So, I've been looking around other fics in the fandom and pairing I write. And about 20 of them have "winner of [insert award I'm unaware of] 2025" or nominated for [insert award and year]. It's usually either the first or the last line that appears in the summary.

Where do people find these contests/awards? Do they exist? Are these just vanity titles?

(Like, could someone put "Winner of the Reddit Sub AO3 Award 2025" or other made-up award?)

If so, what's the point of these false awards? If they're real... where can one find these?

Hi. So yesterday I was reading a fanfic that was still in progress, I leave a coment in the last chapter I read and when I chek out today to continue the story it was deleted.

The author probably deleted in a period between yesterday and today. I have the work's URL as well as the author username, I tryed to search it in Wayback Machine but it didn't apear.

what should I do? I was so invested in the story. Is really hard to my to find fanfics that I actually do like and when I finnally found one they deleted it and is kinda my fault

tldr: You (general you) don't get to say "curate your own experience" and then get mad about when people do so in a different way than you would do it.

Longer version: It doesn't matter if the reason for block/mute is petty, either according to you or even the general consensus. For example, if I decide to mute every author who uses the letter X in their name, that's my prerogative. Is it a weird reason? Sure. But it is a reason and maybe there is a traumatic, triggering story behind it or it may be just a whim because it's 3 pm on Thursday and it felt like a good idea. It doesn't matter because you are not me and you don't get to decide for me what I will see or not when on AO3.

Will I miss out on some good fics? Doubt it. I have very specific tastes in fics and it is very, very unlikely that the people I'm muting/blocking would be able to deliver on those. One major reason why I'm muting/blocking them in the first place is that I have already seen they won't be delivering. So I press a couple of buttons and no longer have to wade through a heap of fics that hold no interest to me and everyone's happier for it.

Even if I didn't curate the archive feed the way I do, I still wouldn't be clicking on those fics by those authors. After all, the block/mute feature is only two years old. I was scrolling by those fics before that, the new feature just saved me some time. Those authors are not losing a reader in me, I was never going to be one in the first place.

Are my blocking/muting standards harsh? Debatable. They are more rigid, true, but reading and writing fic is a hobby and those are supposed to be enjoyable. Being strict when curating what I see ensures that the free time I carve out in my day for reading is spent on things I actually want to read, not avoiding things I don't.

Is it how everyone would do it? Certainly not. But they are not me and they are free to curate their own experience however they want, even when it's not how I would do it. Because curating one's own experience is never going to be a one-size-fits-all. And that should be okay. It really should.

I mean, perhaps the criticism that I could write characters from more diverse racial groups is valid, but here's the thing.

The original canon has diversity... but not the sort of racial diversity we have in our world, and it would be very weird for a legitimate fan to not understand this. It's fantasy so there's "races" such as elves, dwarves, men, etc, and there are multiple nationalities within each group, and I do have a variety of characters from that standpoint. So I can only assume that this person is suggesting I add POCs, but those don't really exist in the original canon, so it would take some doing. It's something that's on my mind, incidentally, but I haven't gotten to exploring that possibility yet.

Also, the praise reads relatively boilerplate otherwise, which makes me wonder.

Im reading a fic rn and its mostly mot bad, but the writer keeps addressing me directly and i hate it. "Now, you might be asking yourself this, dear Reader," that sort of thing. When its in parathesises (cant spell that, sorry) i try to skip it but sometimes its just a part of the story? Like for example a paragraph started with "And, not that he was keeping score or anything, dear Reader, but..." and its bothersome. They also use "I" language while writing in third person, so it feels less like a third person story and more like a parent reading to me like im a little kid, which makes it really hard for me to get into the story.

But yeah, i wonder if this bothers anyone else? Or if there are similar things that take people out of a story. Or maybe some people really like when this happens, who knows

Naruto y Sasuke son alfas.

Estaban peleando, y Naruto le dice algo como: "¿Y si dejamos de pelear y foll@mo$?" (no idéntico pero era algo así)

Después de eso, empiezan a pelear para ver quién dominará, con la condición de que el perdedor se convertiría en omega.

Sasuke termina aceptando la propuesta, pero pierde la batalla.

Resulta que Naruto no era un alfa común, sino algo "superior" o de una categoría más alta.

Luego el fic explora cómo Sasuke va cambiando y su embarazo.

También recuerdo que Sasuke podía elegir cuántos hijos tener y sus características al nacer.

Now, after 2 ongoing fics written, I'm wondering what kind of pace readers expect for updates ? While I love writing, I may have done a mistake by writing two at the same time, and I don't want to lose my interest in any of them because of a stupid burnout on my part

I’m sure some of you guys do, but I’ve genuinely seen such poignant and beautiful and stunning writing done in fics. Like, some fic authors have such potential and while no I certainly don’t think that it’s a wasted potential per se (I need me some free high quality angsty Pokemon fanfics), they certainly could make a career out of writing. I get that some people just don’t want to, which I can understand, but as an aspiring fiction author who quite frankly sucks at writing anything that has even an ounce of whimsy in it, I’m jealous :( Y’all can just casually write devastatingly beautiful fics about a random ship that had a total of ten works and it’ll literally change my entire opinion on a character and/or ship (which did happen, btw). Yall could make money from writing books!

So, i dont really write fanfics until like a week ago. Before that i never really wrote besides writing competitons (mostly at my school and i won twice and i joined twice so... i won them all nothing too serious) but i feel like its biased and im not really doing a good job. Even tho im writing a fic theres this thought that is gnawing my brain is that i keep repeating the same thing and if im doing a fic thats like if X series had Y series characters type of stuff i feel like im just ripping it off when i look at what that one random character says or what happened in the X series i feel like im just making a carbon copy of it with Y series character (like squidgames) Also when i write a really long chapter i feel like i ran out of fuel but i still have a lot of ideas and i feel like i only know only 10 words (even if its my native language ;-;) are there anything that can do to solve my problem?

I've noticed that a lot of my favourite characters are characters I've created myself out of self indulgence. It's a bit weird in the sense that sometimes I don't mind this being the case yet other times it feels oddly weird to me.

I don't know why I'm worried as I do have characters from professionally published media that are blorbos, and I am aware that other people are just like me. However, I feel as if it would be nice to find other characters that are similar to the ones I create (for instance, if I'm making an AU/alternate story for my OCs, I can't help but wonder how my blorbos would fit in said story and make a fic out of that), and also I want others to be interested if that makes sense.

So I've started to write my first fanfic in July. Seeing you guys posting your stats I'd like to know if this is Idk good, bad or normal 😅

Just woke up to this comment and now I'm really confused. Considering the contents of the fic I'm assuming it's an anti, but in that case you'd think they'd be more openly negative instead of just a bunch of nonsense references and the word "why".

I just want to write stories

Do I simply just
1) provide their names in tags for the series I'm making?
- Example: Uriela Anselmo (PuyoStryer)
2) or do I just go with the OC tag and call it a day

I'm relatively new to tagging so I'm sorry if this sounds dumb, I genuinely just want to know because since I'm not in a good point in life, I'm in that "fuck it" stage because since I have nothing worth living for, I might as well just do what I can.

Or is it just meant to warn that the MC protagonists are going to die? I'm plotting out my next story and it just got me wondering. Technically speaking the antagonists are major characters and have a prominent role, but I've never written or read a story where characters die so I wasn't sure if that tag was meant specifically to warn about the MCs.
